I don't think the world would be only peace and love without religion, but it would be a better world, if only slightly.
Stalin was a monster but it doesn't mean secularism is also bad.
Also, religion may not be the real motivating factor for some of the wars i mentioned, it doesn't dismiss the fact that religion does teach some horrible horrible outdated things.
I think the scary thing about religion is it teaches to ignore science and rely on "faith."
To the people argueing over religion.. I suggest you read some books by Eckhart Tolle.. For one all religions are corrupted.. The Ego likes to have identifications (Name, Sex, Race, Religion, Age, Property, etc).. And to identify yourself with a religion is to make your ego feel whole.. it seperates you from the other religions when really WE ARE ALL ONE.. Religious people are for the "bad".. Spiritual people people are for the "higher good".. Peace Love Unity
Admittedly, religion has started wars but it's one reason of many, we'd find reasons to go to war with or without religion. What is wrong to say is the world would be better without religion, that's just not true, many people have come from a bad place, drugs, prostitution, gangs, countless other things, and sought and found refuge in religion. Religion has put many people in a happier place and established their morales.

Society wouldn't be able to function with out money, we would be able to function without religion.
However, I completely agree that we should judge Politicians if they lie to us,but only on hard evidence, not what some of my religious friends are judging them on: What a scholar dreamed about.
I highly doubt its adding to the suffering in the world due to the complete lack of evidence. And i think the world would be better without religion because of the aforementioned wars and because all Faith is is believing in something with lack of any evidence at all.

I.e The crusades,The Spanish Inquisition,The roman empire,The British Empire,The Beginning of Islam, Rwanda Genocide, 9/11, Countless suicide bombings,Killing Jesus etc
