Woohoo! Thanks for the shout out Rick! Glad you liked the shop! 😊
Yea it was cool to see a place practically down the street to drool at on his show, pretty awesome 🎉
@collectorsluck awesome spot. You need to open a store. You already have the cabinet, statues, and signs! 😊
I was a Blockbuster boy myself when I was a kid. I used to love going there to rent movies. Sometimes I'd just go to look at the movie and video game covers. Man, I miss those days...
Dillsboro Video, in Dillsboro, IN. But when we would go to Lawrenceburg I would rent from either Movie Gallery or Blockbuster and then in my early 20s I worked at Movie Gallery for a while. Good times 💯
Movie stores always seemed to have the same smell. Nothing compares to going to the movie store on Friday getting a movie and a video game for a sleepover. Kids won’t be able to experience that feeling.
I was born in 91. I remember my parents bringing us to a mom and pop video rental store for years. Blockbuster and Hollywood Video did finally come to our area and put them out of business. I just remember when new release movies stopped renting as much, they'd only keep a couple copies and then put all the extras in a bin for 25 cents. They had toy/candy vending machines and ice cream, too! Those were the days.
I was born in '83. I really really miss the old days.
I remember the mom and pops movie/game rentals. I was born 85, my rental store had Revenge of Shinobi arcade cabinet and a Simpsons Pinball machine. I would always play RoS every time I came to that store. My dad would rent out nothing but action movies. I miss the 80’s/90’s! 😢
@@SKvldlf just be thankful we grew up in the 90s. The 2024 generation got robbed tbh....just a shtshow
Born in 91 as well. We had 2 mom and pops very close to each other. Never got a blockbuster or Hollywood video
From someone born in 1978 yall are young bucks
I live in Wisconsin and I personally go to this guys store on a regular basis. Very honest and knowledgeable dude. Fair prices too
same, madisons lucky to have this store and lance
Glad you got your channel back
Rick: USE better security. Everything from WiFi, to landlines/cable/fiber, to a better OS, to a better BROWSER. Rick and team, NOTES.
Born in ‘89. Here in Ireland there was a video game / movie rental shop called Xtra-Vision. Best part of my childhood going there
We had a Chartbusters near us, I eventually worked there as a teenager. It's funny to think now that Chartbusters was a blatant Blockbuster knock-off!
My former neighbor (RIP Dave Hapner) started Dave's video in Indiana. He had several locations back in the I believe late 80s/90s.
We had a place in my small town in Delaware called RC Video. We’d go so often that the guy who ran it would always let me and my siblings get an extra movie or game for free. Also introduced me to all the goofy 80s horror movies when I turned 13 that I still love to this day. So many fond memories that I wish my kid could experience. RIP RC Video and every other video store
Blockbuster and Hollywood videos
A Full Store TOUR PLEASE. With stories of where and how much some of the big items were acquired. Make it two three even four parts.....Absolutely OUTSTANDING GAMING STORE.
Thank's for Sharing. We rented from a corner store that was across the road. We also had Jumbo & Blockbuster video in Ontario Canada.
I rented movies and games from Hollywood videos back when they had Gamecrazy with them. The best game store at the time, the employees were so nice and they clean a disc or two for free.
Your channel is wholesome and allows me to smile and be a nerd for a few minutes in this stressful and chaotic world. I appreciate you
Our local video rental store was called Versatile Video in Dunwoody, GA. No chain, no big box stuff. Just a classic video rental spot with all the NES/SNES, Genesis and "other" video games you could handle. Loved it. Blockbuster eventually moved in down the street around 2000 but this video spot kept going well into the 2000s. I miss it dearly.
I love overspending emotionally and being overwhelmed while shopping with you and Metal Jesus without spending a dime. Take us with you every time. I used to rent NES games from a Grocery store and also from the I can't say Blockbuster but whatever after getting a Little Caesar's PIZZA PIZZA! Long before the Hot N' Ready. Friday night was amazing when you're 8.
Born in 78, grew up going to mom and pop video stores until Blockbuster and Movie Gallery became a thing, but I worked at Hastings in college and I loved that place!!
80's kid here. Every Friday, my mom would take me and my friends to Music Plus. It was the big box retailer in my town that sold/rent movies and music on tapes and vinyl. Sometimes my mom would also grab a 45 for herself (yep..legit that OLD). Then we would go to my house and all gather around our 20 in TV and watch the movie on our VHS player (sweet set up right there.).
When I go to shops like that with large "not for sale" displays, it helps to just think of it as a small museum piece. Even though I can't go home with it, just being able to see some incredibly rare items in person is a treat.
We had a mom and pop shop called uncle Dave’s and it was amazing as a child. I could not wait till saturdays to go down there and pick out a game. Some saturdays my mom got generous and let me rent 2 games!!! My god that was a treat. Didn’t know what to do with myself having 2 new games to play in one day. Haha. The good ole days.
Hastings was awesome, they were so big and had everything you could want , they always had those Friday the 13th dvds on display and their collectible section was awesome , and they had premium sports cards , damn I miss it
Love the Beatles drop at 7:39. Thank you editor!
Riff
My local video rental place. A mom and pop shop. They new my name and i remember they called my dad once to ask if it was ok if rented The Terminator. 😂 (I was like 7)
Of course he said yes. "Rent my son anything he wants - except whats behind the saloon doors" 😂😂
We had a local store that we rented from, and then our grocery store, Giant Eagle had rentals. After that we were a Hollywood Video family, but we did go to Blockbuster from time to time.
Sycamore Videos, and we had a Box Office video store. We went into Blockbuster 1 time, but never again when they asked for credit cards just to sign up. lol
I rented vhs tapes from Video Land mostly as a teenager. The other two spots I would drag my mom to as a kid for renting a movie for me were Econo Foods and Randles, which were both grocery stores, so it was easier to persuade her.
Later in life it was Blockbuster and Hollywood Video. As a kid I remember this place, Castle Video, or something like that. They had free popcorn popping in the front as you walked in and a play area for kids who weren't interested in the movies to play while mom and dad browsed. My favorite early memories of renting VHS and NES were at that rental place.
Seeing this store makes me regret having nostalgia for this stuff, and I also regret getting rid of everything I had back in the 90s... If I came into big bucks I'd buy his store and just keep it in my collection. Wow.
What an awesome looking store. All those display cabinets were wild! o_O So many nostalgic pieces in that place!
I was just there last week. I highly recommend it. Lance is an awesome guy.
I was a Video Manager at Hastings while going to college. I also rented from Blockbuster, Captain Video, Mega Movies, and even some of our local grocery stores rented out movies/games - good times!
I was born in 1989 in the state of Maine! The "Go To" spot local to us was "Home-Vision Video" LONGGG Gone, But man... It was a blast going there as a kid renting Sega genesis games, Super nintendo games, And of course VHS movies!
I didnt know that 3 ninjas game was a thing now I've seen it twice in 2 days ... riffs video yesterday and ricks today 😂
Hollywood Video and Hastings here. There was a Blockbuster, too, but only went there when we couldn’t find what we wanted at the other two.
Shoutout @CollectorsLuck, great call, I'll have to visit this place next time I'm in the area. I just bought some zelda games of Jordan today.
Dude has two dark cloud 2 pieces (hanging cardboard and poster) visible from the counter. Respect! Store looks amazing
I remember there was a Hollywood Video Store where I grew up with a Game Crazy attached to it and of course Blockbuster where my dad would take me to
Reminds me of a store in Columbus, OH near me. Play It! Games, Movies, & Music / Play It Trade It (High Street location). Tons of Vintage. Glad to see shops like this in other places.
born in 1979. we went to a pretty big place called Home Vision Video in Geneva, NY. I remember renting video games and movies there vividly. We had a Sega Genesis.
I grew up in a small town in the 80s. By 1990 I was 13 but we didn't have any big franchise rental stores.
All our rental places were mom and pop shops.
I've been meaning to get up to Madison to check out the stores in that area, now I know I've been missing out. Thanks for sharing this.
I grew up on The Navajo Reservation and we had little to choose from growing up. Sadly the rental in my home town burned down and was forgotten. Loved going down and renting a vhs without having to travel 35 mins to the nearest city.
This store just became a bucket list stop. This place is a dream.
I was a manager for movie gallery when they went bankrupt and closed all the stores. One the most fun jobs I ever had
Jumbo Video! Some still exist in Canada. The Free Popcorn was so sweet.
I think this is my favourite store that you’ve visited based on the video. Looks fantastic, unreal collection
Wow.... That guys shop is crazy!!
I'm a kid if the NES/MS era. Before Blockbuster moved in, it was the grocery store, Home Video, and Family Video.
This video made me smile too much. It reminded me of the movie rental store I used to work at called Budd Street Video, in Sharon, PA. It sold games and VHS and everything else. A local Ma and Pa store that was like a second home for me, I was there so much. I remember working there one day and Dragonquest 3 AND 4 came into the store and I was able to buy it at a fair price from the store. It was awesome.
Later, I worked at West Coast video, then Movie Gallery, and finally Blockbuster. Then I worked at a movie theater, so yeah... you could say life was all about the entertainment mediums back in the day.
I love Rick's insane transformation into a little kid when he came to this store. You can see his passion so clearly as he is in awe of what this ridiculously awesome dude has done with this store (I'm tempted to get on a plane and fly there to check it out!). I love especially the big TV with the Super Mario Bros waiting to be played. So so so retro!
Anyway, glad you shared this one Rick. And the only advice I think you need is twofold:
1. Pay more attention to the people commenting on your videos. You always ask us to comment but then I never see any kind of reply from you in the videos you make, like referencing what we all tell you. I think it would be cool to see some more interaction from you with your fans.
2. You really should consider putting your store online and sell items on a Retro Rick webstore. I'd be happy to help you set it up, as I'm a website developer and game programmer. I think you would be selling a heck of a lot more that way and also even get new items possibly that way too. Consider it. I'm here to help you if you need.
Good work guys!
I thought the gaming stores in my city were amazing....THIS IS THE MOST BEAUTIFUL STORE I EVER SEEN...what a selection of everything i love it...i am drooling lol
We used to have a Rental store called Jumbo Video. They had fresh free popcorn at the door so you could snack while you looked around. It was amazing.
For me, blockbuster was on the other side of town. So we went to a few mom and pop stores throughout the years. One used to do 5 movies, 5 days, 5 dollars. It was awesome.
I was a Blockbuster kid, there was also a couple of mom and pop spots too - depending on where I was in town….but, my very first job was at our Bay Area, CA local chain - Bradley Video. I lived off the free popcorn we made daily for the guests!
We lived in rural Nebraska and grocery stores were our main supply for video rental. One town a guy rented VHS for $1 a night or 100 empty 12oz soda/beer cans!
I went into that shop last summer! Absolutely love it! Definitely want to go back!
We had Hastings in Albuquerque, NM. RIP.
One of my favorite gaming stores in Wisconsin. There is also some good ones in Appleton, De Pere, and Sheboygan, WI.
Those displays were WILD! Glad you got your channel back, AGAIN 😂
So we really didn’t rent at Blockbuster because my town was a lot smaller back in the day but we DID have a game/video rental through my grocery store King Soopers(an offshoot of Kroger in the West) and we used to rent games and videos every Friday it was glorious 😊😊
Such an incredible collection! We rented from Blockbuster until they built a Moovies Video Store on our side of town. That place was pretty awesome.
My grandma and grandpa had a sweet shop and they also had a rack of VHS cassettes to rent. It was like heaven and we'd get our pocket money in pick-n-mix sweets!
There was a Palmer Video a couple blocks from my house, so that was my go-to rental spot. I spent a whole summer playing Sonic 2 on their Genesis demo unit, and I once had my bike stolen outside the store because I spent so much time playing their Marvel Super Heroes arcade cabinet that I didn't even notice my bike was gone. Eventually, its name changed to West Coast Video and a Hollywood Video opened a few blocks further up the road.
No St Vinny's Drama callouts?!?!?! Glad that they survived the storm of social media!!!
Next time in Wisconsin you should check out Game Trade in Green Bay. Also a great video game shop.
Probably the best store I’ve seen any retro collector go to! 🔥
Arkansas guy, Hastings and Movie Gallery.
I remember going on vacation and seeing Blockbusters and getting stoked to see what a Blockbuster had in it.
I used to work at a Hastings! I was bummed when I went to visit the fam one time and it had closed, it was the best book and game collection spot in our small town.
When I lived in Tijuana I rented from a small rental place near my house, moved to the States and started to rent from Longs Drug Store, eventually got a Block Buster card a few years before they went under. Then Netflix mail in rentals.
I mean this place is basically a museum. What an amazing place to check out.
Family video, Hollywood video, and of course Blockbuster
Born in 95 and we had family video growing up! Loved that place
I have never been to store like this in my life. It’s simply amazing!
I grew up extremely rural so we had no big brand name stores that did rentals. However we did have one restaurant in town that did them. They had a small wall that had a variety of N64 and SNES games, and would rent them out to people. I remember renting out the Mario Party games quite often, but the real core memories from there lie in my repeated rentals of Mischief Makers for the N64, and Kirby's Dream Course for the SNES. We rented that Kirby game so often the lady that owned the restaurant asked us if we just wanted to outright buy it from her instead. We did. I still love that game to this day.
Our grocery stores always did rentals (Fred Meyer, Smith's, the local grocery store that wasn't a chain) we also had like 3 start ups like Video Excitement
Seeing that ice blue gameboy pocket unlocked a core memory.
We had movie gallery and blockbuster but movie gallery was like a 10 minute drive and blockbuster a 15 minute drive so naturally I went movie gallery mostly. 😂
Mainly for our movies from multiple mom and pop video shops. A variety store and a chain called Jumbo Video. Which ironically still exists in one location close to me. 🎉
The 90s was the BEST decade ever!
Hollywood videos was my place besides blockbuster of course and sun coast videos. Midwest in Chicago
Blockbuster and Hollywood Video here - for a while it was just Blockbuster, but they later opened a Hollywood Video store not too far from us, so we would alternate occasionally, but I gravitated towards Hollywood Video because they later had another store they opened up within their store called GameCrazy. Loved to buy retro games there while looking for rentals.
We had a Premiere Video in my hometown but it didn’t last long. Family Video was king here. However, before Walmart moved into town, every grocery store and some gas station convenience stores had video rentals and they always had a small selection of games, especially NES
If you ever start VHS hunting let me recommend Be Kind Video in Burbank, CA. That store being down the street has made me a vhs collector
me and my buddy frequent this store alot! Lance is such a cool dude!
I remember going to Hollywood Video / Blockbuster EVERY Friday of course! I would grab a Xbox or GameCube game to checkout for the weekend and 1 movie for my pick on Saturdays. Coming up on about 20 years ago now. I miss those days as those places were packed on Friday nights and would meetup with a friend from school every now and then.
Video Home Movies was where it was at. Hastings as well later in life. Keep up the great work my guy!
This is a store to my heart. Metal Vinyl and Games ♥️
What a store! I've got both of the same Punch Out figures on cards, a Mario Bros. Dixie cup holder and the Mario phone out of box.
My home town Shelton, CT had several places for video and game rentals. My high school gfs mom had a rental store (strategic relationship😂). We had a blockbuster and most nostalgic for me was Video 7. It was a 2 family house on the corner downtown and the bottom floor was the store. So many memories going with my parents to rent vhs and Nintendo games. Actually I heard that Chris from Retro Games Plus made a deal on stuff from the store when the owner passed recently. I missed out on it. Had a friend of a friend who was helping with the clean out getting the property ready for sale. Sad driving by now and not seeing the Video 7 sign
What a store, dang!! So many great things I wish I had in my gameroom.
Never rented from a movie rental store! we always always rented our movies and video games from the grocery store. in the middle of the grocery store they had a pretty good size movie rental area. Lots and lots of VHS and NES!
Yooooo im pretty sure the guy who bought the very first Nintendo switch (CND) used to work here a long time ago
We used to rent games and movies from Hastings all the time! Miss those places.
Wow, I lived in WI for 8 years and never knew this place existed. I’ll have to check it out whenever I go back
We had Blockbuster, then movie gallery and a Hastings was about 20 min drive away… almost forgot a place called applause video that existed for years as well!
Great times!
Gamestores are the definition of escapism. It's nice to see stores have a variety of items.
Hollywood Video, Video safari, Mega Hits, blockbuster, garden video, movie gallery, family video. Rented vhs from all of them haha
In Hastings, Nebraska we had a Video Kingdom and an Applause Video. We rarely used Applause and later we had a Movie Gallery come in also. Video Kingdom is where I bought my first POGS. There was a small mom/pop shop that I never knew about as a young kid until they sold out and mom took me but 98% of the video games were sold already.
We use to mainly go to Hollywood Video, always remembered going into EBgames as well to buy gameboy games. But after they closed down we switch to Blockbuster.
I rented from a local small town video store called Vans video growing up… used to browse VHS titles for hours sometimes before deciding what to rent
Back in the day in Nebraska, we had a Captain Video. Then we moved and it was Movie Gallery.
As someone that grew up in the 80s and 90s I have absolutely no nostalgia for Blockbuster. Don’t think I ever set foot in one either. I grew up pretty poor so my parents took us to the hole in the wall video store run by a nice Korean couple. Tapes were $1 each to rent and their selection was AMAZING. Lots of weird and obscure horror stuff and of course the adults only section that I would always try to take a peek when my parents were not looking.
I remember blockbuster of course but we also had a small one here in Md called pick your flicks that rented games as well. The good ol days
I use to rent from the grocery store at the grocery store. Our Albertsons had a room next to the customer service you rent movies and games from. I remember specifically renting child’s play on vhs and glover on the 64 when I was a kid in the 90s
I am so jealous of those cases. NGL.
But yeah the main please my folks would get videos and games form was Good ol' Blockbuster. We has a Hollywood video as well in town but it really didn't last very long.
