@@Mustapha1963man, wilt is a historic great player, but if Wemby was in the 60’s he’s averaging wilt numbers on less minutes. Best modern season of all time, cos u can’t compare eras that far apart
@@water8635 I'm not so sure. I think there is no question that the 60s were a MUCH more physical era. When it came to defending Wilt, players all but committed aggravated assault against him- and Wilt still dropped 30 or more on them. The current era is- sorry, not sorry- soft, at least in comparison to back then. Since Wembanyama isn't often subjected to physical defense- or much defense at all- it's hard to say how he would handle Wayne Embry leaning on him for 40 minutes. And the refs letting Embry do it.
@@Mustapha1963 this is another reason why I think comparisons from different eras that far apart are a bit silly. First of all, even if he can’t completely dominate the paint 24/7, he’s gonna do well in that aspect still, and then with his shooting he can pull up over everybody all game. Fouls were still called back then, u we’re just allowed a bit more body, he’d be getting his arms hacked mid shot constantly
In context, it’s easier for Wemby to do it than it was for the older players. 20 pts in this era is like scoring 13/14 points in the 90’s. Same will all the other stats. Still an elite rookie season though.
Yea some of these stats where very specific & didn’t tell the whole story , like Hakeem Shaq & Drob where all doing those things while shooting over 53% from the field while Wemby is at 47% rn (mind you he’s 7’4)
BPM (which is an era and pace adjusted estimate of on court impact) thinks Wemby at center is about +6.5 this season, which would be one of the best seasons for a 20 year old in history and comparable to, for example, DRob's rookie season at 24 and only a little behind Jordan's rookie season at 21. Taking his time at PF into account, his +4.4 is on par with Magic Johnson's 20 year old rookie season or Duncan's 21 year old rookie season (and well ahead of other guys you might be thinking of, like Shaq and Hakeem). So yes, it's not technically right to compare the exact numbers, but it turns out in this case it's not really misleading (mostly because he's playing so few minutes compared to any of those classic rookie seasons).
Wemby's a special player, unlike almost anyone we have seen. That said, the NBA did not start recording blocked shots until the 1973-74 season. Thus a 23-year-old rookie Wilt Chamberlain wouldn't be eligible for the comparison at 2:15 simply because the stat didn't exist. As a rookie, though, Chamberlain averaged 37.6 points and 27.0 rebounds. Basketball historians and commentators "guess" he probably averged at least 5 blocks per game back then as well.
37.6 points, 27 rebounds, 2.3 assists and unknown steals and blocks in his rookie season, but considering he did have a record 8.8 blocks per game across over 100 game span later in his career, it's safe to assume he had a few blocks and steals at the least. His debut nba game he scored 43 points and 28 rebounds against the new york knicks who had a 6'5 pg, 6'0 sg, a 6'3 sf, 6'7 pf, and 6'11 220 lb center. This player was Wilt Chamberlain.

Wilt's Rookie Season: 37.6 Ponts, 27 Rebounds, 2.3 Assists, 7+ Block Shots/ I guess he did not exist. He was a dream. Wemby is great and has that potential or I should say close to it.
The Greatest Rookie of All Time was obviously Wilt Chamberlain! "As a rookie with the Warriors, Chamberlain averaged 37.6 points, 27 rebounds, and 2.3 assists in 72 games. In addition to the honor for first year players, he was also awarded All-Star Game MVP and NBA MVP, making him the only player to win all three in the same season." "The NBA did not record blocked shots until the 1973-74 season." Bill "Russell estimated that he and Wilt averaged about 8-10 blocks per game in their careers." (Googled quotes)
I'll tell you this, he's getting more playing time than most rookies. With that said, he's on a short list of players who've been as impactful for their team as Wemby is to the spurs. With Lebron and Curry retiring in the near future, it's great to see so many future HOF players playing at a high level. The NBA had so many superstars, and up until Wemby, I thought that the league was kind of starting to fizzle out. Slowing loosing those dynamic superstars and not refilling them very fast. With Lebron and Curry at the end of their careers, we're leaving the league in the hands of players like Joker and Luka. While they're dominant, they don't necessarily have the same GOAT energy that players like Lebron, Kobe, Jordan, Iverson, KD, Curry had/have. Players like Melo and Tmac would step on the floor, and you just knew that you were in big f*cking trouble. Shaq was literally unstoppable; you just held on for dear life or got the hell out of the way. And the diesel just owned the spotlight. He was charismatic and just a damn good entertainer. I don't know, Wemby is just one of those players that, if he can remain healthy, can be one of those Goat type players. He has that killer instinct at such a young age.

Wemby is treating the best players in the world like He's a Middle School Gym coach playing against his pre-teen students on the 8.5" rim.
He could be the answer to the age-old Jordan/LeBron debate!!!
Can we admit pop may know how to develop his players
He'll end the GOAT discussion in 3 years. But there will be better and better players going into the future. The game is evolving.
If he plays at least 14 yrs at this level or better, he could land in the top 20 of all time.
Boys doing this well at 19. He's gonna fill out a bit and really put the power in power forward.
Great post editing 👌
You should look up Kareem Abdul-Jabbars stats.
Shaw was dropping 30 without 3s Victor could never
So Shaq was less skilled?
got it
Chamberlain had 37.2 points, 27.0 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and 10.7 blocked shots (per the leagues premier statistician of the day, Harvey Pollack)
its unnoficial tho so it doesnt count
Wilt Chamberlain did it all and even better.
Wembyama 😭😭😂😂 *Wembanyama
Yo Robinson was going absolutely crazy 32, 11, and 7? Bro that's sounds like a Jokic stat
best coach in the league.....wemby is a sponge for wisdom. Amazing humble giant.
Wemby a future goat for sure👌 W vid
37.6 points, 27 rebounds, 2.3 assists and unknown steals and blocks in his rookie season, but considering he did have a record 8.8 blocks per game across over 100 game span later in his career, it's safe to assume he had a few blocks and steals at the least. His debut nba game he scored 43 points and 28 rebounds against the new york knicks who had a 6'5 pg, 6'0 sg, a 6'3 sf, 6'7 pf, and 6'11 220 lb center. This player was Wilt Chamberlain.
Amen brother! So many either don't know of Wilt or simply blow him off as a myth. No one ever dominated on both ends of the floor as Chamberlain did.
@@Mik-xq2co exactly, and people would rather come up with their own narrative of the 60s and 70s rather than believe that they missed out on seeing the greatest player of all time. "plumbers and firefighters" , "Where's the footage?" , "he was taller than everybody else". All false narratives driven by disbelief and a general lack of knowledge of the decades past. Us few who know and believe are privileged to a true legend.
@@tylerhall9412wilt was the greatest player of that era by a mile, and the fact that the competition wasn’t as good doesn’t take away from what he did back then. But Wemby is averaging wilt numbers in the 60’s on less minutes. And that’s facts.
@@water8635 no it isn't, wemby isn't even close to wilt numbers. and I'd say a lot of the competition was better. Bill Russel and the 60s Celtics would beat any team from today, and any team from the 60s could beat today's Detroit pistons lil
@@tylerhall9412 ur smokin dookie my brother, and I meant that Wemby would average wilt numbers if he played back then. Wilt was clearly a mile better than the entire league, but he’s not averaging those numbers in 2024, not to say he wouldn’t be the best player in the league, cos he prolly would be. But those numbers were a product of the era, and wilt. Not just wilt.
Wemby is so fucking sick man, Chet is sick too, they're both like 20+ PER. What a rookie class, imagine if these guys stay healthy, both have top 10 potential, and obvs Wemby legitimately could be the best player in the league.
He better win DPOY. He’s basically put it out of reach already statistically even if he doesn’t play another minute. The NBA and journalists better not screw him over just because he’s a rookie and hasn’t “pAiD hIs DuEs.”
He’s also doing this on a minute restriction.
hes so good
praying to baby jesus wemby can stay healthy . this kid is so fun to watch
to be fair all those greats had great coaches, it's reasonable to think pop won't be there in his prime so maybe one of the biggest question marks in his career might be is if he's going to get lucky enough to also have an all-time great coach to cultivate a team to help him reach his highest potential
And you did not even mention the most insane thing about him. His off ball movement is unbelievable.
Boi Boi call Shaq 😂😂😂😂😂
Huge work on the editing ! And great video too. The way you approach his stat lines and how you compare him to others are pertinently put 👍
Gained a sub ❤
This kid has a REALLY good shot at being the best defensive player the game has ever seen! Maybe even the best player!!
Wemby is a thin Wilt
Does anyone else see that Sixers lineup at +34 NET rating? Wow I didn’t know that lineup was so good together.
Wilt's Rookie Season: 37.6 Ponts, 27 Rebounds, 2.3 Assists, 7+ Block Shots/ I guess he did not exist. He was a dream. Wemby is great and has that potential or I should say close to it.
Victor Wembanyama is the shohei otani of basketball
I can't believe that thumbnail isn't photoshopped. That wingspan is insane
He is the greatest of all time in certain categories that we have never seen any giant players do. And he is only a teenager.
Bro plays with fire...still...
Not lost in his own celebrity
This title ignores the fact that some people saw Wilt Chamberlain’s rookie season.
speak about the WE DONE WITH THE 90’s trend
Worst/best part is hes only a rookie. That means barring drastic injuries this is the worst we are going to see this man
He represents France well.
Jesus, those '94 Robinson stats.
Are people forgetting Kareem Abdul Jabbar did this over 50 years ago at the same height?
