This gem takes back to the summer of 1974 ..9 yrs old ...man I miss my childhood years in the 70s such a great time in the world for the BEST MUSIC ..movies..tv shows and especially the Saturday morning cartoons...i miss you 70s.
1974, this year was one of my happiest one. Memories of living with my brothers and youngest sister, Nancy and mom. Miss mom alot. May she rest in peace. Like to listen to it. To reminis of those good old days. NICE song.
I know exactly what you mean. Both my parents died recently within months of each other and this takes me right back to a time I felt such joy and warmth
this song was a favorite of my best friend of nearly 16 years that I lost to covid back in july 2020 😢 it will always bring back memories of us kicking back and drinking some 🍺 🍻 during the weekend.
I am in love with this amazing song!! Makes me feel hopeful for finding a good man to LOVE!! Lord, have mercy on me after a long storm of suffering with health issues!! I love you Jesus!! Thank you for blessing us with feel good music that uplifts our souls from the pain of this crazy thing called life!! One Love!! Amen!! :)
There he is, back in dah daze. Ft. Dix, boot camp. ,me and dah Maniacs, we were called, just 2 get through dah grind, and loneliness; a town w / o w o m e n.
Man, I miss being a kid in the, '70's, playing outside, while my mom and her friends hung out, played Dominoes or Spades, while listening to songs like this. Wow. Such peaceful days.
Me, too. Yes, as another 1970s child, I miss the days of playing outside all day with your friends, unsupervised, until your parents called you in for dinner. Sweet freedom!
How can one not like disco? Certainly, because of its success, the genre was overexploited, and a lot of horrors ended up coming out. But at its peak, as on this title of George McCrae, it is simply a delight for the ears, as for the whole body, which has the impression of floating in foam. Ecstasy!
Ah the youthful carefree days of riding my bicycle while listening the the best music of the 70’s on my transistor radio on the farm as a 13 year old. (1975)
This is music with a difference. The world at the time enjoyed this particular track more than Americans and George McCrae himself. It was a job well done.
My Dad listened only to country music at the time this came out, but this was one song out of his country music world that he loved. He played it all of the time in juke boxes in every place we went in that had a juke box. I miss you so very much Dad. Every time I hear this I think of him. Great Song ! Thank you for posting this. Brings back a lot of memories for me.
This song entered Billboard's top 40 chart at # 40...first week out jumped an incredible 29 notches to # 11 then hit #1 3 rd week in the 40..biggest one week jump in Billboard history....May 74
Greg, I dug up the 70's Edition of the Billboard Charts and can confirm the song entered the chart on June 1, 1974 at #93, #62, #34, #15, #9, #4 and then #1 for the week ending July13, 1974 where it stayed for two weeks. Also, the distinction of the largest jump on the survey belongs to Jeannie C Riley, whose "Harper Valley PTA" entered the chart August 24, 1968 at #81, and was at #7 the following week, an astounding 74 point jump. That song was everywhere and proved Americans loved a good story song!
Well I will have blame Casey Kasem for the mis info because I heard that stat on AT40 THE SEVENTIES...his staff came up with that stat....keep up the good Work DiscoCat..I truly love Disco Purrfection!!
I get that! Each survey has their own reporting style, contacting radio station program directors to obtain data. I defer to Billboard, who have developed the science of hit music popularity.
I was 18 and in a night club in Brighton England when this was number 1......I still love this song 41 years later. But my lime green flared trousers no longer fit me...!!!!
Peter Dale I was 21 yrs old in the United States Marine Corps, dating the ladies like crazy. The ladies in Jacksonville, North Carolina (Camp LeJeune) LOVED to dance. At 62 yrs old now I can still dance, according to my granddaughter who loves to dance with me, to the 70s music.
He was a back ground singer in KC and the Sunshine Band, this song was originally for KC but his voice couldn't get that high so he gave it to McCray and the rest is history.

Really? Good to know! I didn't know that! Background singer for KC & SUNSHINE BAND? We went to see KC & SUNSHINE BAND in concert at the OZARK Fairgrounds back in the early 2000s before KC's 60th birthday.

Yes nothing wrong with going back in time!! You must don’t know real soul music to make a silly comment like that… You can go back in time , just don’t stay there .
I was about 5 when this came out and remember dancing to it with my mum and dad, who both passed away within the last 5 months. I'm finding so much comfort listening to it right now. There was joy in our home back then and it takes me right back, with such a loving feeling in my heart
Love this song, I was about 3 years old when this song came out and my mom remembers me rocking back and forth in the car seat. I am 43 years old now and this music still stands the test of time.

Tracie Rivera I totally agree with you, I was born in 1960 I also remember my older siblings and mom and dad having friends over and listening to this music, and all us kids would be outside all day riding our bikes or roller skating of playing baseball or tag , we never had cell phones or computers, we were very active outside just doing fun things outside all day until the sun would go down, I miss how my upbringing and generation was
I had hoped you had already produced the longer version and here it is. Thank you. I was 10 at the time, and this was my Moms favorite song. Thanks to her diversity in music, I got to hear this.
~ 1974! I will never hear this song and at some point not hear "Do You Wanna Get Funky With Me" by Peter Brown (R.I.P.) being beat matched simultaneously. Thank you for this re-working of the original L.P. version. Honour and Love to our living legends: George McCrae. And Gwen McCrae. "Rockin' Chair" in its own way 1975 is just as iconic. Cheers, DAVEDJ ~
DiscoCat, once again, you've managed to exceed all expectations with your brilliantly gifted talent. I have loved this song since it was first released, my aunt would always the 45 at my request, and now here you are, creating a proper remix that pays respect to the original version, again, I am a hardcore fan of yours, keep them coming, sweet stuff...
I was only 5 years old but I remember it like it were yesterday. There are things one remembers and some is so blur when you think back of what was what 44 years ago.
Love this song as a child; Love this song as an adult😘 The music to this joint, Rock Your Baby, is sexy to go along with the words that George Mcrae is singing by his vocals that sounds sexy and heartfelt.
Summer of 1974. I was living in Verona, Italy where my dad was stationed. We spent a month visiting Southern France. Disco music was just starting with Donna Summer, KC and the Sunshine Band, Barry Manilow and Barry White, and everyone was Kung Fu Fighting. Great memories. It’s amazing how certain songs just bring back flashbacks.
Bons tempos, boas lembranças da minha juventude, nunca deixei e nem deixo de ouvir essas relíquias que marcaram e ficaram para sempre na minha memória! 🎤🎵🎵
I was 11 when I first heard this song... I loved it, not sure why... Later I understood it was the totally sexy vibe of it... One of my favourites, for so long now.

You are so right, DJDiscoCat, this record captured me in the summer of 1974. I played both sides of the single over and over, side 2 had part 2 with an instrumental verse before the chorus came back in. So I tried to cut the two together on my cassette recorder and made a 5 minute version. Great. And then the album came out with the full 6 minutes, just wonderful
Oh, when the hope of romance hung in the air. This was the type of music that lent to it. Soft lyrics, melody and a foot tapping hip swinging vibe. What compares with it today?
Wonderful 70s that I miss and Will not return. They only exist in our hearts 😭😭
