I love that you were inspired by things you didn't see in the podcast world. You certainly stand out to me as someone who does things I find lacking in other pods I watch, particularly the way you show off your knits. It's so important to have a lot of screen time with the knit on the body, from all angles, arms moving, all the little dancing...it gives a full, real life view of how the knit functions, and I find myself so frustrated when other pods stand up for two seconds to show off something and sit back down. Plus, you look so darn cute when you prance in the side by side of pre-block and post-block!
I love that you didn't want to be restricted when you started knitting. I am a kindred spirit in that way. I would see something I want to make and then get the supplies and start. I never wondered if it was too difficult or even looked at the techniques used. I would learn anything new to me as I worked through the project and I had the determination to learn techniques because I really wanted the finished item.
Bravo for creating videos that speak to the beginner in this 66 year old me in this new era of knitting. I've been knitting this time for 3 years. I've yet to finish a garment that fits me comfortably and inevitably gift my finished garments to my daughters, family and friends. Not sure if it's the yarn I choose or that I am confused by this new way of knitting, and the way patterns are written. But I have picked up many new skills and the lingo that goes with it. At times I seek out patterns from the 70's and 80's and enjoy using straight needle. I love knitting in the round and top down. That's how I found you. Your ranunculus video popped up after I purchased the pattern. There is going to be a knit a long at my local yarn shop soon. Very excited about this! I am swatching and watching many videos until then. You are very inspiring. I'm enjoying the catch up watching your videos. Merci, Arigato, Thank you
One thing I also love about your channel is that you try to knit many different design/ designers so we get to know them too. And I have to add that Baby Osi: oh my!!!! Soooo cute! 😂
Yes! Nora you totally filled a gap in the knitting world with your show! I have been knitting for over 30 years, but I feel exactly the same about podcasts and yarn shops. I just want more and more information and encouragement and you are fantastic! I love everything about your podcast and hope it brings you a ton of joy so you want to keep going as long as possible! You will be at 20k soon!!! Such a star!
Thank you for another sweet and thoughtful video! Yes, I like the idea of answering Q&A during TIOT Time… but, I also like your reflection chat that you have been doing, because it seems to be a time for you to share your deep down thoughts on the project. So don’t lose that! ❤
I just finished watching your Q & A. You are so talented! My mom taught me to knit as a child, but she only taught me how to knit, purl, cast on and bind off. I've taught myself the rest over the past 50 or so years. I'm still not a great knitter, but I do like to learn new things. I'm amazed at how quickly you learned to knit. After seeing all your other talents, I understand! And I absolutely love your videos!
I'm so grateful you decided to make this channel! It's because of you that I've decided to try knitting. I crochet but hearing your journey made me want to knit as well! You're such an inspiration!
I am drawn to your podcast because you are such a fearless beginner knitter. You don't let anyone tell you that you can't do that. You just figure out a way and you do it beautifully. I hope you stick to podcasting and become a lifetime knitter. I admire you and your fearless atitude.
Thank you so much! I joke that my parents read “The Little Engine That Could” a few too many times with me as a kid 😂 I have no plans to stop and look forward to the future for both my knitting hobby and the podcast 💛
Another fun one, thanks for answering my question as well! Good luck with the button hunt, there are always good and better and best options, but using something good until best appears is an excellent strategy.
The amount of mental/mathematical gymnastics you had to do for some of your wips/fo's is seriously making me side-eye the sweater I am currently knitting on lol!!! But in all seriousness, I absolutely can empathize with you as I've been there myself a handful of times in the past with my knitting. But the absolute best feeling is when your knit is complete and all of that calculating, worrying and little bit of frustration was all worth it in the end. Love all of your vids/content. I'm a pretty new sub and what I love most about your vids is that you are so relatable in your challenges, mistakes and especially your excitement of knitting all together. Thank you for being so relatable and inspiring ^.^
Re: picking up stitches, if you know your stitch and row gauge, you can just calculate your own pick-up rate. So your gauge here is 25 x 32 thus 24/32 = 78% or about 3/4 so you pick up 3 stitches for every 4.
I enjoyed your Q & A very informative and interesting…you have such a way with words and I love your bubbly, sweet personality. You inspire my knitting to try harder projects as well as just knitting what I love. Thanks for your very interesting podcasts. Well done❤
First, I would like to congratulate all the winners! One of the things I like about your Channel is your bubbly personality. Even when things did not go well within your project(s), you still have that positive outlook and I really like that. I have watched a lot of knitting/crochet podcast and I have to say, that you're so detailed in the things that you talk about (ie, the pattern, the tools you used and breaking down the cost of the project). And thank you for doing the Q&As... we learned new things about you and it's nice. Have a beautiful rest of your day! 🙂
First of all, you need to design patterns for the knitting world. Your brain thinks in math( and beauty of course) and I loved the way you figured out percentages to get your count right. Brilliant. I bet those yarn store people are blushing now thinking you weren't ready for a pattern. You definitely are a unique beginner. Maybe like a beginner savant. I remember watching your Rhinebeck review video and hoped I would see you there one time. Now that you have created a cult following, I believe you would love the experience of gathering on " the hill" with all the lovely podcasters and fans. If I go this year , you will be the one that I search for.
Well thank you! It’s certainly a goal of mine!! It’s definitely interesting to see what comes naturally to some people and not to others. I hope that if they are blushing now, they realize that their pessimism might just be the thing that makes someone not pursue the craft at all. I’m glad it didn’t affect me! I’m hoping to make it to the hill!!! Looking forward to meeting you there ☺️
A SSK is standard for knitting together the 3rd icord stitch plus the one stitch you pick up from the neck edge. Also, for those last 3 icord stitches, Stephen West and Andrea Mowry, off the top of my head, both have youtube videos showing how to join the last 3 stitches and the starting stitches, that makes a really smooth finish. This podcast was so much fun to watch, I loved the Q&A section. It's nice to have learned a bit more about you. I love that you live on a farm and have access to all those adorable critters!
I love your story of why you started your podcast. All the things you listed that you wanted to see in a podcast are exactly the reasons your podcast is one of my favorites
You are so talented with all the different hobbies you have/have had! I just love your podcasts - you give so much technical info - you’re one clever lady! 🥰
I’ve never won anything before this giveaway, how exciting! I can’t wait to see the finished Claire Vest and would be interested in a follow up on how the yarn is after some wear with it being a unique fibre content if that’s something you’d like to do. 😊
I love your new toy!! Another fabulous podcast in the books. I feel so encouraged to figure out why I don’t like specific things about my knitting and get them fixed to my liking! And I love your positive attitude! You’re awesome!
Holy schneikies, you are my creative hero. I always want to learn all kinds of crafts and hobbies but sticking with yarny things for now. Kudos, Nora! I’m with ya’ on using up all the yarn. I’m finishing a crochet mosaic sweater and had to weigh and really math it out to - seemed a teensy bit short and I did not want to buy more yarn. THEN I realized my swatch was my buffer yarn. 🙌🏼
I love your podcasts and all the things you include! Keep it up because you’re great! And I hope that people were kind when asking you to display your knits on hangers, as you deserve kindness…as does everyone! Have a great day!
Guuuurl!!! You definitely deserve to buy yourself a dress form! That would be perfect as a mainstay of your podcast to showcase each item as you talk about it. Very effective!!! ✌️
Who knew that those math story problems would come in handy in real life?!? All I could think of is the red train traveling at 50 mph going west and the blue train traveling east going 70 mph. Where will the trains intersect? Ha ha ha!🤣🤣🤣
Hi, Nora, thank you for another delightful chapter in your knitting and crafting adventures. I loved hearing that you did origami at an early age…I did too, and also attended origami conventions when I lived in NYC. Osi is cute as a button and it was fun hearing how you brought her into your family.
I look forward to your video every Saturday morning (so does my parrot because he gets extra cuddles)! Your videos are always so cozy and entertaining, thank you for putting this content out there!
I have a knitting group at school of grade 3/4 and 5 students and I’m always telling them that as long as they can knit and purl and have patience- they can make anything they want. So glad you also think that:) I love the idea of knit and chat time being you answering questions. I know this isn’t about knitting, but I’ve always wondered about you and your boyfriend’s story- would love it if you’d share:)
Thank you so so much for the opportunity to participate in such a great giveaway! And also massive thank you to Kutova Kika, I just jumped and got 6 patterns, I love her designs. And I am set on getting the Bloomfield Sweater by Knitonomy. Honestly the previous podcast felt like a little online party, I had a great time. 💕 And I really enjoyed your story about how you decided to start this channel. It's exactly why I am loving your content so much.
Loved today’s video, as usual 😊 The q&a section was a really fun addition, would be sad to loose the try it on tubing bit though. Being a greedy type, I’d love both😂 Thanks for sharing your adventures in knitting ❤
I agree with you. If you can knit and purl you can knit anything. I started knitting around ten years of age making blankets for my dolls. At age fourteen I make this pink acrylic sweater. The pattern was from a knitting magazine published by Seventeen magazine. It had a diamond pattern on the sides at the waist area and it was tunic length. I loved that sweater! I made other things from that magazine as well. There were only four knitting magazines published by Seventeen. I even crocheted a few bikinis! Wore them too! You can do that when you are a teenager! lol!
Just in time for my afternoon coffee, like every weekend! Thanks for listing the winners in he description box, I'm always too excited and cannot concentrate on the video when I have to wait until the winners are mentioned/shown on the screen. This way, I can really pay attention to you!
So happy when I get time to grab a cup of coffee and watch your just-posted video 🥳 I’ve been watching since the beginning and am so proud to be an OG and so happy to see how far you’ve grown!!
It’s a great idea to add questions into try it on tubing. I really like the cable pattern in your oversized sweater. When it comes to the I-cord decreases it is not about which way the decrease leans but about which stitch ends up on top. The ssk puts the smooth I-cord stitch on top where the k2tog brings the body stitch to the front covering the edge of the I-cord.
I usually go to Joanns for buttons, they have a pretty big selection and it is nice to be able to lay them on the top in the store and test. Might not have quite as specialized of buttons, though, if you have your heart set on a particular style.
Congrats to all the giveaway winners! I definitely took advantage of the Kutovakika coupon and bought 9 patterns 🫣 so I’m going to be on the lookout for that make-along you were brainstorming! 😉
I can't wait to see your vest when it's done. How about brass buttons? Or faux brass? They would be a lovely contrast against the chocolatey colour. Wow, you are so multi-talented! I have always wanted to make my own clothes, but didn't really get going with it until last year, when I started knitting. Now, I'm starting to crochet and I was recently given a sewing machine, so I'm excited to practice on that and make my own clothes. I also keep thinking about learning the piano, so I think that will be on the cards eventually. I also like paper crafts and journalling, and drawing and painting. Thank you for telling us about Osi 💗 She's so beautiful. I completely understand wanting a dog so badly, and then it feels like a dream every time you look at them 🥰 My Elsie is a Cavalier and she will be two later this month. I can't believe how lucky I am to have her.
Hi Nora, Google Japanese style buttons. I saw several cool options for your vest ( under $10). Love your current WIPs. Harry Brown and I love you! …I bought 3 Kika patterns from your 50% special! Thank you and Kika! Happy knitting
For your three stitches on the i-cord v neck, usually you resolve this by picking up three stitches from the opposite side of the I-cord (where you started), then Kitchenering/grafting those stitches to the live stitches. I hope that was clear!
Mood Fabrics has a good selection of horn buttons that aren't insane Eta: I'm also a hairstylist, but I specialize in men's hair. I started in full service and bridal, but I hated it and I'm so much happier doing bald fades instead of updos!
I do love Mood! I’ll have to take a peak! Thank you! I give you so much credit! When I worked behind the chair, I actually loved men’s cuts and short hair more than anything. I think it goes along with that idea of sculpture. Bridal is not for everyone but it was my first love in hair and it hasn’t ever changed 💛
Hi Nora, Love your knits, and I love how you just dive right into trying anything at all. Very inspirational! Your hanger idea is great! Have you thought about buying a dress form? Some are adjustable to your size, so you get a true view of what the garment will look like, and it would also be great for showing your knits. Seamstresses use them to fit their clothing properly. Keep up the great work!
Oh all so beautiful!!! Love the Feel Good cable sweater one .. wow! Did I miss the update on the Sari green tank you were doing it or is that one on hold? ❤
Hi Nora, Regarding the buttons on your vest. My first thought was for sure mother-of-pearl. But since you said you prefer something different, I’m wondering if you could make fabric-covered buttons. You could choose a fabric color similar to the yarn, or choose something more whimsical, like black fabric with a floral pattern or something. Anyways, good luck!
I loved the question and answer section! I really love getting to know the podcasters I watch - it makes me feel like Im sitting and working on a project with a friend. Obviously only share things youre comfortable sharing, but I loved getting to know you a bit more!! Where does your love of soccer come from?
Thank you!! I definitely feel like it's fun to go a little off-topic from time to time! I actually had a few people ask the same thing about soccer! I shall explain myself in a future video!!
Oh YEA!! I won a pattern!!! I sent the email to you that you requested. I think the new "model" you have NEEDS a name since she is there to show off your knits. also I think its a great idea to add a question or 2 during the try it on tubing and chat.
Don't get rid of the scraps from the feelgood sweater! You might need them if you ever need to repair or redo something. 😊Maybe some coffee grounds buttons would be a nice match to the chocolate brown vest?
re: k2tog vs ssk on your icord, a single decrease stacks two stitches one on top of another; k2tog stacks the left st on top of the right and ssk stacks the right st on top of the left. In the case of icord, the furthest left stitch is the one you picked up from the edge, so if you are stacking that on top of the last icord stitch, it's going to look a little strange and not as smooth as if you 'hide' that pickup stitch underneath the last icord stitch.
I am!! I really do stop in anytime I pass one and can run in and out in five minutes. So I see a lot of that too, but with frequency, have managed some lucky finds!
Seems like a great thing, living on a farm without having to do the work of caring for the cute animals. I think the chenille is fun for amigurumi crochet, but not for knitting at all.
About buttons, Nora: what if you got a button blank (any sewing store) and wrapped it with the same yarn as your vest? A few ways to do this -- as long as it's flat and not poofy I think it might be a solution?? Never underestimate white glue.
It makes me sad that walking into a yarn shop they told you that you weren't ready for what you wanted to do, there's a difference between being like "that may be a challenge, you should know that going in" and "you're not ready" like dang way to scare people away from a great hobby! Besides, even if it goes horribly wrong, the yarn's not going to explode! We've been knitting about the same amount of time and I LOVE seeing another person whose been doing it about this long also being adventurous!
I 100% agree!
@@jaimedill2467 I love those side-by-sides!
I love that you didn't want to be restricted when you started knitting. I am a kindred spirit in that way.

Yayy! Glad you like it!!
Another fun one, thanks for answering my question as well! Good luck with the button hunt, there are always good and better and best options, but using something good until best appears is an excellent strategy.
Thanks for asking!! They’re certainly better than nothing for now!
Loved hearing more about you! Yes to more of that. Many thanks for the crafty content and inspiration : )
The amount of mental/mathematical gymnastics you had to do for some of your wips/fo's is seriously making me side-eye the sweater I am currently knitting on lol!!! But in all seriousness, I absolutely can empathize with you as I've been there myself a handful of times in the past with my knitting. Great makes nearly finished 😊. I have the 2.5 fixed circular needles for socks and I agree stitches keep slipping off.

Ahhhhh!!!! See this is why I love having y’all to ask! I never would have figured that out! Thank you!!
I usually go to Joanns for buttons, they have a pretty big selection and it is nice to be able to lay them on the top in the store and test. Might not have quite as specialized of buttons, though, if you have your heart set on a particular style.
Fabulous as always loved the Q&A. Your videos are always so professional I did wonder if there was some photography background ❤
Thank you!! All just hobby ☺️
love the acquisition!!!
try pigeon wishes buttons they are cute
I enjoyed the Q&A, and think it’s a great idea to incorporate into the TIOTAC (Try It On Tubing And Chat) section.
the ssk for the icord is because of the way it leans! since it’s a left leaning decrease and you knit right to left it makes the decrease flow better
So interesting!! Thank you!!
Congrats to all the giveaway winners! I definitely took advantage of the Kutovakika coupon and bought 9 patterns 🫣 so I’m going to be on the lookout for that make-along you were brainstorming! 😉
Lmao I did too!! Hahahaa…I’m brainstorming timelines as we speak!!
Yay thank you for answering my questions! ❤
I may have just bought 8 of Kika's patterns with your code. 🤗
Literally same 😅
Was away at the races this weekend and just getting caught up now! I missed you!
Hi Nora, Google Japanese style buttons. I saw several cool options for your vest ( under $10). Love your current WIPs. Harry Brown and I love you! …I bought 3 Kika patterns from your 50% special! Thank you and Kika! Happy knitting
I will thank you!! I’m so happy you got to get the good deal!!
Antler buttons!!! Iykyk 😂😂😂
I like M&J Trimmings for buttons online
For your three stitches on the i-cord v neck, usually you resolve this by picking up three stitches from the opposite side of the I-cord (where you started), then Kitchenering/grafting those stitches to the live stitches. I hope that was clear!
Likes always fun video glad to be here.😊
Mood Fabrics has a good selection of horn buttons that aren't insane
Eta: I'm also a hairstylist, but I specialize in men's hair.
Thank you!! I have a dress form but it’s a little to clunky to keep in the living room 😅
Oh all so beautiful!!! Love the Feel Good cable sweater one .. wow! Did I miss the update on the Sari green tank you were doing it or is that one on hold? ❤
Congratulations to all the winners 🎉!!!! I’m personally so excited about 50% off KUTOVAKIKA patterns. You’re very talented! Happy creating 💚🧶💚
Congratulations!!! I’ll be getting to emails by Monday! Thanks for being so diligent! I think she needs a name too!! We will get on that! Thank you 🥰
I have seen some pretty walnut buttons on Etsy.
Don't get rid of the scraps from the feelgood sweater! You might need them if you ever need to repair or redo something. 😊Maybe some coffee grounds buttons would be a nice match to the chocolate brown vest?
💖💖💖
I see knitwear designing in your future.
Here’s hoping 🤞🏻
re: k2tog vs ssk on your icord, a single decrease stacks two stitches one on top of another; k2tog stacks the left st on top of the right and ssk stacks the right st on top of the left. In the case of icord, the furthest left stitch is the one you picked up from the edge, so if you are stacking that on top of the last icord stitch, it's going to look a little strange and not as smooth as if you 'hide' that pickup stitch underneath the last icord stitch.
For your Mochi Knits vest, what about some Asian Coin buttons? Except they might be a little heavy.
Are you thrifting for yarn at Goodwill type thrift stores? I see stray leftover balls of yarn sometimes but never see sweater quantity amounts.
I am!! I really do stop in anytime I pass one and can run in and out in five minutes. So I see a lot of that too, but with frequency, have managed some lucky finds!
A white, sleeveless top over the hanger would show off the neckline of any sweater you show on the display rack, I think.
Have you looked at textured coconut shell buttons for your vest top? They are reasonable in price and the colour & texture might work for you.
They’re so close to what I’m looking for!!
@@akaNoraKnits awesome to hear 😊
We've been knitting about the same amount of time and I LOVE seeing another person whose been doing it about this long also being adventurous!
have you considered finding someone who deer hunts and ask them if you can steal a small antler to power saw into a few buttons? 🙃
You know, I should ask around!
