Regardless of the quality of the show itself, the amount of people in the comments that don't understand the difference between an homage and plagiarism is really surprising. It's one of the first anime I ever watched out outside of the cable service when I started noticing the word "anime" in general and I think it still holds up.
I got the ed video for hgs on my recommendations yesterday and got curious since it's quite, er... "popular" at the moment. I saw that chibi jumping part and somehow it felt so familiar for some reason. So this is why. Thanks for being able to answer this question.
Very heavily inspired with witch academia, the creator talked in the interview about how you can see little references or easter eggs in the show, same case with how the characters personalities are similar.
I don't think it's that big a deal. The show is bad, but it's a cute homage. There's enough there to separate it from the source material and it conveys the characters' supposed personalities pretty well.
This show isn't inspired by anime. It's just clipping off already made stuff in anime while not adding anything new and somehow making it a million times worse than real anime. It's like a Frankenstein monster but with stitches of anime parts merged into one monstrosity.
That well animated scene where the cat girl is fighting (can't remember her name) also gives me a sense of deja vu, but I cant place the anime it came from... I thought it was from the opening fight in soul eater but I was mistaken. Still cant shake the feeling g I've seen it before though
The funniest thing about this comment section is a bunch of people are getting mad at this. "its plagiarism!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" no its a homage. it would be plagiarism if azumanga daioh was the ONLY SHOW TO EVER DO THIS. characters jumping into frame in an opening/ending is nothing new. plus, it was animated with no tracing and the style of the character is totally different. its literally just the ending of the show. there are so many other bad things about this show but y'all choose to complain about THIS of all things. grow up, seriously.
I would think of this as a possible tribute moreso than something devious atleast thats what I'd hope. I think if this thing was more well received than that would be the prevailing thought
Honestly, I see this more as an homage to Azumanga which is crazy considering Azumanga is my favorite anime and I would love for ANYONE to reference it nowadays.
I noticed it immidietly when I saw it. Like 5 seconds in amd I was like: "Wait wait hold it, stop! Was...was that just the Azumanga Daioh anime into poses right there!?"
You know, it's not a crime to copy an intro: From how I can tell all they share is some base elements such as the way they hop into the screen and the abstract background, they pretty much animated it all from scratch and the first two poses are the only ones to be the same, i'd say it falls under a homage, but if you're doing it just to be petty and be mad at the creators of the show and not for any valid comentary or serious critique I'm willing to look the other way.
Yes, it's definitely a homage to Azumanga Daioh. Paying homage to another series isn't really anything new. So many other shows have done this, and some to a much bigger degree than HGS. ;A; Feels like many hate the show so much, they're claiming plagiarism. Had HGS been a well liked show, people would call it a homage,
Makes sense though. Referencing other works without pulling your own weight just seems like mooching their success. I'm surprised they'd even pay homage to Azumanga, what with Kimura in it.
See since it referenced something I like, now my lizard brain will be like wow this show reminds me of that thing I like. or at least the directors hoped that
I haven't watched the show it's probably not good form what I've seen. But this isn't theft, unless there's tracing. Actually I find it cute how they referenced Azumanga diaoh it's a good anime.
The one good thing this show did was that it helped me discover that there are other people like me in this world..... people who still remember Azumanga Daioh

Slime boy is the best!!! (´☆▽☆`)
Instantly noticed too.... and I always skipped the ending when I gave it the trial run xD
I'm glad that tons of people still remember Azumanga Daioh. It's one of the first anime I ever watched out outside of the cable service when I started noticing the word "anime" in general and I think it still holds up.
Oh yeah! Azumanga Daioh was a huge part of my childhood as well! :DD I'm glad people still remember it too!
I got the ed video for hgs on my recommendations yesterday and got curious since it's quite, er... "popular" at the moment. I saw that chibi jumping part and somehow it felt so familiar for some reason.
So this is why. Thanks for being able to answer this question.
I made the very same observation and wrote about it in another critic video. Good to see the comparison fully realized in an easily digestible format.
Could you uhh please make a compilation of all Slimeboy scenes where talks or sings or just moves? Really need that...
Ah, yes. Can I copy your homework?
"Every masterpiece has it's cheap copy"
Just picture the High Guardian Spice one like it's a session of Fruit Ninja, where you have to slice and dice what gets tossed into view.
This show keeps fucking up
To be fair it's fucking up worse than Rwby
I mean team Rwby's already probably looking at it and probably taking the piss out of it
I love how you did side by side twice, lol.
The last part of the ending song of HGS reminds me of the 1st opening of Little Witch Academia
Oh really? I'll go check out the opening. Feels like the creators were paying homage to a lot of anime. 🤔
Very heavily inspired with witch academia, the creator talked in the interview about how you can see little references or easter eggs in the show, same case with how the characters personalities are similar.
also the ending theme is literally a rip off version of nichijou's ending theme 💀💀
I don't think it's that big a deal. The show is bad, but it's a cute homage. There's enough there to separate it from the source material and it conveys the characters' supposed personalities pretty well.
"The whole thing is HIGHLY suspect."
-- Skinner, Ratatouille
I legit thought something was familiar with the ed, thank you for the confirmation
So it is fraud, embezzlement AND plagiarism, goddamn
With that aside, great video, editing and everything, awesome work, keep it up
The one dislike is from the fan of this show 😂
Or the creators
the dislike button didn't even exist anymore
@@IcyBune you right, UA-cam removed it
I FUUUCKING KNEW IT!!!!, thanks for making this vid :D
:D No problem!
There's a line between being inspired by something and just straight up ripping it off.
This show isn't inspired by anime. It's just clipping off already made stuff in anime while not adding anything new and somehow making it a million times worse than real anime. It's like a Frankenstein monster but with stitches of anime parts merged into one monstrosity.
Imagine watching high guardian spice
That well animated scene where the cat girl is fighting (can't remember her name) also gives me a sense of deja vu, but I cant place the anime it came from...
I thought it was from the opening fight in soul eater but I was mistaken. Still cant shake the feeling g I've seen it before though
I’m really glad that Azumanga Daioh got a reference
I’m starting to think this show was made by the people who made hunt down the freeman
The funniest thing about this comment section is a bunch of people are getting mad at this.
"its plagiarism!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
no its a homage. it would be plagiarism if azumanga daioh was the ONLY SHOW TO EVER DO THIS. characters jumping into frame in an opening/ending is nothing new. plus, it was animated with no tracing and the style of the character is totally different. its literally just the ending of the show. there are so many other bad things about this show but y'all choose to complain about THIS of all things. grow up, seriously.
ok but the fact that klees theme fits perfectly over the hgs intro lmao
I wasn't the only one! It looked so familiar but couldn't remember where!
I like how the background music fits too well with the editing.
LOL thank you.
@@mewcifer3348 it is. It's very well in sync
lol glad i'm not the only one that recognized the hopping from somewhere. I knew it seemed weirdly nostalgic. definitely pulled from azumanga's op
I sentence the makers of this sham of a show to ride in the Yukari Mobile.
I would think of this as a possible tribute moreso than something devious atleast thats what I'd hope. I think if this thing was more well received than that would be the prevailing thought
Klee's theme deserves better use.
Yeah
Honestly, I see this more as an homage to Azumanga which is crazy considering Azumanga is my favorite anime and I would love for ANYONE to reference it nowadays.
usually, when a show makes a reference like this, it's kind of charming and funny. with HGS, though, it's just... kind of insulting.
It should be noted that order the HGS girls leap is the same order that ther HERBS they are named after are listed in the song Scarborough Fair.
That reminds me time to rewatch Azumanga Daioh!
I noticed it immidietly when I saw it. Like 5 seconds in amd I was like: "Wait wait hold it, stop! Was...was that just the Azumanga Daioh anime into poses right there!?"
that was the first one i noticed when i saw High Old Spice. I was like "heh, chibi azumanga daioh rip"
i thought that's just me
I thought I was crazy for thinking I had seen a similar animation lol
I wonder if going back to Azumanga daioh would be as good as when I watched it for the first time
Nostalgia is always better. But I've rewatched it a few times recently and bought the manga and also read that a few times. I'd say it's still good.
0:19 - 0:22 is the one that yall need.
you owe me 30 secs of your life
also someone said that the ed is very similar to nichijou ed called zzz
Damn… nothing will spared, huh? Perfect.
Music is from Klee's theme in genshin impact y'all! :)
Had HGS been a well liked show, people would call it a homage,
slim boy is now the mascot for true anime fans.
I FUCKING KNEW IT!!!! I knew I'd seen that somewhere but couldn't remember exactly which one! I'm not crazy!!!!!!!!
Steal and kidnap slime boy he deserves better
Isn't it crazy to think if this show was good we would just call this a refence.
Makes sense though. Referencing other works without pulling your own weight just seems like mooching their success.
I'm surprised they'd even pay homage to Azumanga, what with Kimura in it.
Slime boy noticed because he truly is the best character
Remember kids stan Slime boy
Slime boy carried the whole show
I’m not surprised at this point
I noticed this too and I'm glad someone else did...
Maybe they just liked the anime and decided to put a reference in their ending? It really isn't a big deal.
Yup. Noticed that myself. I've got a really strong visual memory. Did not know it was pose-for-pose, shot-for-shot, though. That's kinda sus.
the funniest part about this is that in videos on the ending song the only thing the comment section praises it on is this part of the animation
"how dare you stand where he stood"
Wow some people even said that that part was good. Oh boy
See since it referenced something I like, now my lizard brain will be like wow this show reminds me of that thing I like. or at least the directors hoped that
In the opening several parts remind me of Magic Knight Rayearth's first op Unyielding Wish.
I THOUGHT IT FELT FAMILIAR. I couldn't place where exactly I've seen it as well
Klee
Oh, time to sue them for copy right infringement!!!! If this was GW they would go crazy with it.
Yeah when I was watching the ed for the first time I was like: hmmm I feel like I've seen this somewhere...
I read that whole thing in Slime Boy's voice.
so i am not the only person who noticed this
