I played along on SmallFish. They both played the book until move 13, then Magnus basically played like an engine the entire game. I think he has a stock fish computer wired into his brain.
Carlsen has a gift. He really is the definition of a tremendous player. So good in fact many of the Super GMs play right into his hands. He takes them out of their comfort zone with a less than optimal opening, then it's as if they expect a stupendous unsighted attack coming at every turn, or envisage strategic master plan at work, and in response they err on the side of caution, or try to over think things. As such they typically just get walked over in a fairly straightforward, and in hindsight, obvious manner. It really just is beautiful to watch. I bet it's as easy for him as he makes it look.
Enjoy the fact that the Dutch remains an under-rated opening. A French-Dutch opening system for Black is a good foundation from which to build, especially if one is mindful of not rushing the Stonewall formation.
I always enjoy seeing the Dutch being played! Maybe Magnus will restore some popularity if he keeps beating the best with it. Anand and Caruana is a good start.

I was seeing this game live. And at one point the comentador was saying: draw. And the engine was like: black winning.
Wow! what a stalemate trap on rxf3
Usually when Black plays the Dutch, you’d expect an attack on White’s Kingside, but in this game Magnus generated a lot of play on the Queenside

Carlsen's style is like a fusion of Kasparov and Karpov. Sacrificing for a positional grip. Karpov used to just gain the positional grip.
thanks for commenting so quick after the game is finished...
Magnus Carlsen plays the Dutch Stonewall Defence against Fabiano Caruana! #Chess #GashimovMemorial #MagnusCarlsen
Great video. I really like the Dutch Defense!
I too have found c6 then d5 to be more reliable. often I have trouble if white pushes an early e4 before I have the f5 + d5 pawns up
Excellent game by Carlsen! Thanks for the analysis.
This is awesome ! I love playing the Dutch.
More Jedi mind tricks from Magnus
Magnus almost always win when he tries to simpfy the end game with a slight advantage
thank you
What are ideas to beat the Dutch Stonewall... I never saw this opening until I got about 1950 fide then it's been played alot and giving me trouble.
Caruana must be scratching his head after this game haha.
It's a brilliant game he played like a machine
Qe2 before Nc3 was the mistake ? @ 6mins

My most memorable games are the ones with excellent pawn structure
Those always turn into a slugfest end game lol
So-Adams, please!
magnus doesnt make chess look ez. magnus IS chess
carlsen is almost unbeatable in his top level play....its a fact...
nice
Also I find the dutch makes it too convenient for white to push f4.
Makes no difference, if anything black is closer to equalizing. Should figure there is a reason super GM's don't play F4.
magnus carlsen....a cross between a pit bull, a ballet dancer, and theoretical physicist
No black goes c6 because he doesn’t want to commit to going d5 before whites knight goes to f3 incase of Nh3
