Transition modes for automatic transfer switches can be categorized by whether they interrupt power to the load. Open Transition and Delayed Transition switching momentarily interrupt power each time load is transferred between sources. Closed Transition and Soft Load switching occur without interrupting power to loads. This video summarizes Part 1 and Part 2 of our paper entitled Transition Modes for Automatic Transfer Switches, which provide additional detail about each mode.
