This was the first time I have watched a pro disc golf tour round, and felt like I was watching real golf. I hate what happened to McBeth. It did happen though. Paul showed displayed his displeasure in a most respectful manner though which is why he is at the top of the game. Thank you, JomezPro for keeping his mic hot during a very heated moment and showing the world how to handle a rule dispute during a match. Excellence all around.

@@SoyAntonioGaming how stupid are you? The TD upholds the DGPT rules - if they misinterpreted the DGPT rules or the course layout is incorrect as per advised rules then the player absolutely can contest it.

If the layout was announced before the round it is legal. However, what Paul is saying is that where the water is here, vs. where the water is over there shouldn't change anything because it's all one out of bounds line. TD pointed to a spot behind where, take it as it lies, was allowed. Paul's disc landing in the water after crossing land makes it a legal spot. They were both right! Just some necessary conversation taking place. They both might have been on the spot, but did a great job listening to the words being used. And if the score was amended, no harm no foul. No one to be mad at....

SoyBoyGaming that is the dumbest suggestion I’ve ever heard, did you hear Jerm say ”this is what McBeth should be doing, ask questions”, and there’s a lot to question. TDs are not unquestionable and are very often wrong. Your name definitely checks out though

I really like it when the commentators tell a story, or give background information from their own experience, while also calling the play by play. It's a skill that takes lots of practice, but I have enjoyed listening to Jerm and Uli progress in this area. They did a great job of this during the front 9 here, especially on holes 1 and 2 where they discussed the changes over time. Although the jokes are fun, I more appreciate the story telling and when they share their expertise in the sport. Keep up the great work guys!

Yup. And TD probably needed to do a little less talking, and a little more listening. For a chill guy, he McBeth was about to unleash some social media. I personally would have liked to see an approach where he explained to the playing GROUP how he intended for the rules to apply, and then let THAT GROUP do its PDGA job in making the call with the player COLLECTIVELY. I mean, isn’t that how we were TAUGHT to play it? All of us? I mean, WE’RE disc golf. We play every day and watch this stuff religiously. We going to let this go all corporate bullshit or we gonna keep it laid back and local? Think we can’t compete with other top-tier sports unless we go corporate? Man, those old business models are sooo out-moded. The new sports are going to be what our *kids* want, not our parents. And this is what the kids want. A semi-freakshow of potheads who are all these wonderful unique people with AMAZING athletic talents. So chill with your friends in the woods. Enjoy some herb. And learn some physics. Watch a colored disc do what you never thought it could. And GROW UP SLOWLY. These DG guys are Peter Pans! Let’s pay money to watch them grow up SLOWLY in the caring hand of a society that embraces this type of diversity. Let this be that new sport that actually reflects the values we actually believe in actual society. A sport that both reflects, but also guides, modern values. Be what the other sports couldn’t be: genuine! 🤮

OK, I had one other thing to add there. My wife sees me typing rabidly and comes over and shows me this great video from Southeast Asia where a group of disabled players are finding their way around an informal disc golf course. For therapy. Everyone is having a huge time. So, let’s not forget where disc golf came from and its wide potential. Global potential. For a new type of sport. One where the fans and players interact. More of a festival than a sport, even...

Volunteers should never pay anything. The least you should give them is food, drinks and a shirt that everyone wears the same shirt. Even better if they get a player's package, if there is one.

Kimmo Matikainen yeah for this event Steve dodge set it up where if you wanted to volunteer it would cost you $99 and you with that you received items like a t shirt, disc, etc. I would imagine since there were no spectators he wanted more people to view the event in person. Or it’s purpose was to gain more money since there were no spectators. Either way yes it would have cost you to volunteer at this event.

One of the things I've learned about thumbers is that the more understable a disc is, the more rotations it gets in it's helix. As you thumb the disc as a righty, the disc gets a clockwise rotation. An understable disc turns in the direction of it's rotation. The flippiness facilitates the helix rotation by turning. The more stable a disc, the less it rotates in it's helix. I see a lot of people at my course thumbing firebirds due to their ability to apply a lot of torque behind the throw to achieve more forward motion with the drive. One of my favorites is an old beat up esp flx Predator that is fairly flippy and gets a good bit of rotation and bounce out of the plastic.

Guys - did you make a conscious choice to kind of tighten up the commentary? If so, well done. Well-spoken. Still hilarious. Jerm - you are probably the most humble announcer ever. Paul - you remind me of Dennis Miller doing Monday Night football (except he wasn’t funny and didn’t know anything about football-you’re what he could be if he were good!)

Tournament rulings like yesterday with GG and today with Paul really turn me off from attempting professional play. Paul especially, everyone, even the tournament staff know he's correct but are arguing arbitrarily against him for the service of hyper-literalism. It's sad.

The problem is the back side of the hole is no longer part of the hole so tbh Paul is right. You cannot give them crap, these are unique situations and they want a correct call that's why there's a TD. In this case at this level things like this need to be looked at and stated.

Dirty Mike I don't think that at all, if they went through the correct channels and pointed out the hole is not an island like Paul's main point. Paul probably knows the rules better than most and I'm sure people played the hole wrong like Simon did in round 1

It's a dumb rule. The PDGA needs to take a cue from the PGA and change the rule so that if you turn in a score card with a higher score than you actually shot, they will take it without penalizing you further. Everybody makes mistakes, including the tour employee who announced GG on hole 1 by saying he was shooting 7 down, even though it was clearly written in the placard that his score was -6. Is that guy going to be penalized in some way for making a simple mistake because someone else wrote the wrong number on a piece of paper? It's senseless.

    • @Meta-Drew

People trust the Udisc app to correctly calculate their score and forget the increased likelihood for a score to be mis-entered due to using a tiny touchscreen to touch a number.
If you get a calculator and add up some numbers when you get the answer do you think "hmmm I wonder if thats right, I better double check it" no, you just trust it to be right.
I believe this same mistake would have been very unlikely to have occurred if the scoring had been done on paper cards.

    • @jeffwells641
      @jeffwells641 4 роки тому +1

It's not a silly rule, but it's a bit harsh. A one stroke penalty would be fine. Or make it a warning that stacks with other violations (foot faults, falling putts, moving lie, etc). I think it comes from smaller tournaments where both players and organizers are a lot less professional than you see on the Pro Tour. TD's needed a harsh stick to ensure everyone turned in accurate scores and such.
