If the layout was announced before the round it is legal. However, what Paul is saying is that where the water is here, vs. where the water is over there shouldn't change anything because it's all one out of bounds line. Yup. And TD probably needed to do a little less talking, and a little more listening. For a chill guy, he McBeth was about to unleash some social media. I personally would have liked to see an approach where he explained to the playing GROUP how he intended for the rules to apply, and then let THAT GROUP do its PDGA job in making the call with the player COLLECTIVELY. I don't think you can have where one continuous line is played two different ways. Is it based on where he crossed the line or where is disc happened to end up after crossing the line. I think TD Steve made the mistake pre tournament in leaving any room for ambiguity
They just should have written it clearly and just made it the front pond, rather than "water" so if you yanked it way right over the path into the other lake you just play it like a normal OB. Problem solved.

One of the things I've learned about thumbers is that the more understable a disc is, the more rotations it gets in it's helix. As you thumb the disc as a righty, the disc gets a clockwise rotation. An understable disc turns in the direction of it's rotation. The flippiness facilitates the helix rotation by turning. The more stable a disc, the less it rotates in it's helix. I see a lot of people at my course thumbing firebirds due to their ability to apply a lot of torque behind the throw to achieve more forward motion with the drive. One of my favorites is an old beat up esp flx Predator that is fairly flippy and gets a good bit of rotation and bounce out of the plastic.

Good Game guys and also wish I could work for one of the disc companies. I love playing this game/sport. I am still some what of a beginner and maybe one day I’ll do a tournament with my friends that I play with.
Dirty Mike I don't think that at all, if they went through the correct channels and pointed out the hole is not an island like Paul's main point. Paul probably knows the rules better than most and I'm sure people played the hole wrong like Simon did in round 1
If we distrust the system, then use a different one. Let the group agree on a reading, and then that reading stands. They’re the pros, not the rest of us.
It's a dumb rule. The PDGA needs to take a cue from the PGA and change the rule so that if you turn in a score card with a higher score than you actually shot, they will take it without penalizing you further. Everybody makes mistakes, including the tour employee who announced GG on hole 1 by saying he was shooting 7 down, even though it was clearly written in the placard that his score was -6. Is that guy going to be penalized in some way for making a simple mistake because someone else wrote the wrong number on a piece of paper? It's senseless.
People trust the Udisc app to correctly calculate their score and forget the increased likelihood for a score to be mis-entered due to using a tiny touchscreen to touch a number. If you get a calculator and add up some numbers when you get the answer do you think "hmmm I wonder if thats right, I better double check it" no, you just trust it to be right. I believe this same mistake would have been very unlikely to have occurred if the scoring had been done on paper cards.
It's not a silly rule, but it's a bit harsh. A one stroke penalty would be fine. Or make it a warning that stacks with other violations (foot faults, falling putts, moving lie, etc). I think it comes from smaller tournaments where both players and organizers are a lot less professional than you see on the Pro Tour. TD's needed a harsh stick to ensure everyone turned in accurate scores and such.
This was the first time I have watched a pro disc golf tour round, and felt like I was watching real golf. I hate what happened to McBeth. It did happen though. If you check Udisc Paul took a 4 on hole 8, so they must of ultimately decided he was correct.
Can’t help but think a different player wouldn’t have been able to get such a ruling
Dirty Mike I don't think that at all, if they went through the correct channels and pointed out the hole is not an island like Paul's main point. Paul probably knows the rules better than most and I'm sure people played the hole wrong like Simon did in round 1
Plus Paul’s argument just makes sense. There can’t just be an arbitrary point where it’s “water.” The tournament rules should be written better.
I think if it happened to someone else on McBeth's card he'd have been making the same argument, dude is like a rules robot.
If we distrust the system, then use a different one. Let the group agree on a reading, and then that reading stands. They’re the pros, not the rest of us.
3:40 ...yeah if you like CAKE
...what does cake have to do wi--IT'S YUMMY.
No disrespect to Ulibarri, I was just wondering where Nate Sexton is in the JoMez Productions?
I don’t get why Garrett Gurthie was penalized two strokes for a scoring error that wasn’t his fault?
You have to confirm your score after the round
@@timothymeyer410 Not just the opportunity, the responsibility. It's their job.
I aspire to have a putt that looks as smooth at Kyle Klein's.
On Hole 5, Fish crossed the boundary, hit the tree and bounced back to water. Why did he have to go to drop zone instead of dropping at green?
It's most likely because the rules for the hole state that any OB shots go to the drop zone
