- the ryzen 5 5600x3D is likely the final CPU on the AM4 platform, aka AMD's last hurrah before jumping ship to AM5. definitely a weird launch given the processor is exclusively being sold through Micro Center for a limited time. without a doubt the 3DV technology does an impressive job of improving the smaller-cache counterparts, kudos to AMD for not just throwing away this extra silicone!

I was in that situation where I had a 2600, and wanted to give my board one last hurrah. I went with the 5600X. The $150 price made it a no brainer. I'll probably keep my current set up for 2-3 years
I got 5600 for $100. Upgrading from ryzen 3 3100 feels like i just upgraded both cpu & gpu at the same time.

I just got one online from Walmart within the last week! Crazy right, woke up early one morning and had a email about something I showed interest in being in stock from Walmart, so I grabbed it. I believe it was $192, but I had previously bought a bundle from micro center that you had in your video. Now that I've got two, I will upgrade my kids gaming pcs with these cpu's. I've personally already moved to AM5 with a Ryzen 7 7800X3D. These are fantastic value cpus for AM4 upgrades. Ryzen 7 5800x3d like performance while saving around $100 ish dollars👍
Hey Mr Exotic Thermal Paste, I found out graphene was used in a few thermal application as a good heat spreader for example. Thing is its also used as a dry lubricant presumably due to smaller particle size and high brittleness. So naturally I have asked myself how good of a thermal paste it should be and I'm here asking you. I'm thinking doing what boys do in school, just filling up messy grey squares on paper with graphite pencils and doing so on your cpu.

Great video, you have a real knack for reviewing. The bundle mentioned is particularly good. You can't get any decent AM4 board for less than $80, even used. Sucks for me, since I want to upgrade to a full-size ATX board for the extra PCIe slots.
Just bought a 5700X for only 30$ more expensive than the 5600X . I thought I just missed out on the best AM4 upgrade but I'm from South Africa so I'm still happy. How does the 5600X3D compare to the 5700X?
The 5600X3D beats the 5700x by quite a bit in gaming, but the 5700X is better in productivity tasks.

This is a fantastic review, I think for my 5600x sff pc paired with a 7900xtx this will be a fantastic upgrade that will only cost me about 100 usd to buy once I sell my 5600x. I plan on picking one up and trying it out. I love how you talk about upgrading from older am4 to this chip as well. This represents a fantastic end of life cpu for anyone using a 3600x or older, and even a 3900x as well.
Upgrading from a 5600x doesn't make any sense. It's not enough of a performance jump to make it worth the trouble. 5800x3D is a much better upgrade and it's not that much more. Unless you have a buyer for a CPU willing to pay the price you want, it's still not actually sold.
@@robertp457 it's about a 25 percent uplift and for only having to swap out the CPU I'm pretty impressed, also I am not worried about it selling for the price I want to get for it. I do quite a lot of flipping PC parts it's how I usually upgrade my systems so I'm not under any illusion that I'll get a unrealistic price for it. This will be this PCs final upgrade for the next few years until something really blows my socks off.
Fun part is AMD is making new am4 cpus also. 🤣

I bought the bundle on sale for $299 and then sold the motherboard and ram for $175 so the CPU was worth it for me to have, even as a collector item lol.
That is why I bought mine only because of the rarity. It replaced my 3300X. 😎🤓

Geez, I dunno... I am saving so much money just hanging onto my old GTX 1080/i7 4790K combo. Unless something breaks, or something absolutely will not run on it (Windows 10), I guess I'll just keep on using my hardware. Really not needing anything newer for my needs, yet.
You don't need anything more than that for most gaming and computer needs. 1080gtx (I have one) and a 4070. 1080 is still great at 1080p. The 4070 just allows to ULTRA all the settings at 1080P without slow down even in Cyberpunk.
If they stop supporting Win10 switch to Linux. Linux gaming is actually viable and more user friendly if you use Steam on a desktop thanks to all the work Valve has done on Steam Deck to make windows games compatible.

How much hotter is the 5600x3d than the 5600x in degrees? Just an estimate assuming the same cooler. I could have gone for either but I sprang for 5600x to minimize temps for my sff build
My local MC has a deal were I could get the 5600x and a gigabyte b450m DS3H for $200 which puts the cpu at about $130 same price as the 5600, and I'll just get my brother to buy the mobo and give him my old cpu(3600xt) and spare 1650s while he saves money to upgrade to AM5 and whatever GPU is good in a couple of years. Saves him a bit of money and I'll teach him about pc's since it will be his first build and don't want him ruining expensive parts.

Considering he used an older RX 5700XT GPU and still had solid performance gains is surprising. Going up in GPU power really shows out the huge difference in gaming performance. That's the real advantage of the 5600X3D, it has the horsepower for several levels of GPU upgrade without worry of CPU bottleneck.

The 5700G is not a good choice, it's an integrated graphics CPU which you don't need, and it's slower than the normal 5700x. Just get a 5600 instead, or the normal 5700X if you do productivity.
@truereaper4572 I agree with this mostly, but really the 5700x isn't a great option either unless it's for non gaming purposes. At this point you should probably either go for the 5600 non x or the 5800x3d, maybe the 5600x3d if its available where you are.

Check online for what the blink codes mean for the 3268. I have a Dell Precision T1600 and I got the manual online from Dell itself, if I remember. The codes should tell you the actual problem or at least it's a good start. Good luck bro! 👍👍

If you live within 100 miles of a MicroCenter its worth the road trip. You won't get this experience at a Best Buy and certainly not Amazon. Its old school service Old school tons of computer parts you can look at, pick up hold. Its like a theme park for computers. Make the trip before its all online.
I bought two of them one for my kid. Just finished building one of them. with 64 gigs of ram (32x2 pc3200 RGB) Put a big ak620 cooler on it 35c got it to 72c on some 100 percent all core benchmarks.
Put a 4070 in it and it hits like a hammer on games.
The Asus MB that comes with the bundle are built 3 months ago with latest BIOS. No need to update BIOS plug and play.
What sucks for me is that I live VERY close to a MicroCenter, probably less than 5 miles, but I haven't been able to go there for a LONG time due to health issues! That place used to keep me for HOURS on end because of all the goodies there. It will truly be sad on the day that it ends up going online only and I pray that it NEVER HAPPENS because there are just no longer places like it anymore, at least not in the US. 😕

Who is this for? I am still not sure. But I suppose it will be sold regardless for someone who wants a final AM4 build. But then why not buy the 5800x3d and get the best of the best for gaming? Maybe the 5800x3d will run out and only these will be left. I recommend though to get the 5800x3d it is worth it and you can say you have the best AM4 gaming cpu. Either way, it's great to see AM4 continuing on, it still games beautifully.

C'mon AMD, make this a an option for the rest of us that doesn't have a MC locally. There's tons of us still on Zen and Zen+ that would happily upgrade our 1600/2600/3600/1700/2700/3700X. Also, make it at $200. $215 tops. $230 is steep especially without a cooler.
They literally only have a relative handful of waste X3D dies that they either sell or recycle as scrap material. Anything not based on fully functional 8 core CCDs only exists from having enough (too many) defective dies. They stopped selling quad cores past Zen 2 for basically the same reason. The node didn't produce enough defective dies to justify releasing a quad core product. It's not like they want to hold on to useful silicon for a rainy day. I get that a 6 core might be roughly acceptable for the price, but it's not really sensible to be desiring a 6 core. These being so limited also means the 5800X3D is probably about to dry up too.

The video says boost to 4.2Ghz mine boost to 4.35 to 4.45Ghz. Also the price was 178.00 for the chip not 229.00. So its still way less than the 5800x3d and 200.00 less vs the new 7600 with similar ram mb.
I was going to get a 7600 but the DDR5 + MBs are still too buggy for my liking why pay more get no better gaming and have DDR5 issue and bugs. New platform not ready for prime time.

Idk what kind of games you play but if you play competitive shooters I’d reconsider. I had a 5600 as well and I went from a shaky 180 fps on overwatch2 to a consistent 240+ fps. I could move even higher but my monitor is only 240hz

I bought/installed a 5600x3d yesterday, and have been very happy with the upgrade from a 2600. Have gained 40-ish fps in some games and it runs anywhere between 45c and 72c on a noctua air cooler. It will suffice for another 3-4 years until I move to AM5.
PLEASE READ THIS COMMENT I NEED SERIOUS HELP!!! . i have a Nvidia Gtx 660. and i installed all drivers and now what happens is when i open only one app or game. my gpu usage is 100%. i opened hollow knight my gpu usage was 100% and it was very laggy. when i had a very low end pc hollow knight ran perfectly fine. but i dont know what's happening. oh and the thing is my cpu fan spins for a while when startup. then shuts off completely. my pc works perfectly fine tho. my cpu usage is like 2%-12% but i touched the heat sync one time it was really really hot . if someone has a solution please please please help me
Your CPU may be thermal throttling due to possibly overheating and leaving your GPU to pick up all the "slack" so to speak. Maybe that's why your GPU is at 100% all the time. Try removing and cleaning both your heatsink/fan and applying new thermal paste to the CPU after thoroughly cleaning the old paste off of it. If that doesn't help and if your PC was working fine just before you installed new GPU drivers, then use DDU to remove ALL traces of the new driver and reinstall older one back on. Sometimes new drivers, often AMD from what I hear, can cause serious issues with their GPUs until they find out about the issue and fix it. I, myself have had occasional issues with AMD drivers in the past. Good luck bro! 👍👍

my gpu temperature limit is 45 and its locked idk why, do i have to increase the temp limit? and my Ram is capable of 1600 MHz but in msi afterburner it was only using 350 Mhz is that the problem?
@@orpon2046 It could be a number of different things. I would check the temps of both the CPU and GPU. Try Heaven Benchmark to get GPU temps and maybe something like CPU-Z for CPU temps. I would definitely change the thermal paste in both CPU and GPU especially if they were never changed before. If the 660 has pads, I would consider replacing them too if they look bad. Your GTX 660 is rather old now, like my GTX 780 ti which I have repasted twice in two years already just to be safe. MX 4 is a decent paste to try. Also maybe go back to an older driver if temps seem OK or your "squeamish" about opening up your GPU. I don't know if you or the other person you mentioned that has the same system as you are doing any over clocking. That can have all sorts of effects, both good or bad too. I, myself, stay away from over clocking my old systems. Don't want to give them a heart attack! Lol! Also check the speed of your memory in the BIOS. It's hard to say exactly what may be causing the issue without actually having the system in front of me, but those are some good places to start. Let me know his it goes bro! Sometimes "YouBoob" doesn't give me notice of replies to my comments right away or sometimes not at all, but hopefully I will see your reply if you send me one. I will try and keep track if possible. @@orpon2046 That's weird with your integrated GPU. If it's AMD then you may have a BIOS issue of some kind especially if you upgraded the CPU/GPU recently. You may need a BIOS update then. The RAM is definitely running WAY too slow! It COULD be a RAM issue, but probably not. Try reseating the RAM if possible and also change thermal past on CPU/GPU if it's old now!
PS: Be VERY careful messing around with voltage/temperature settings in your BIOS. Save that for ABSOLUTE LAST! You don't want to fry your system, especially if it's an older one like the ones I have!
