Will do😊
James, you may want to cut those potatoes into eyelet/planter size. You'll save a little money, and you'll need far fewer whole potatoes. Do you grow giri, by chance? Sicilian watercress. If you'd like some seed I can send you some later this year :)
Thanks for this video! Question, when should ground cherries be planted? Thanks
I need more trellis space
This is a very enjoyable and informative adjunct to the Square Foot Gardening book! Your garden is like eye candy since you are about 2-3 weeks earlier than my garden. Thanks for another great one!
When the lilac flower the temperature of the soil is warm enough for tomatoes, when the lilacs are over, it is time for the cucumbers .
This guy is on the one.
ua-cam.com/video/2HM3n12jGsA/v-deo.htmlsi=Czk5HAuXfbmZFm3V
Nope. The lilacs can bloom when the soil temperature is still too low for planting tomatoes. My zone had a frost that killed tomatoes 2 week after the lilacs bloomed
What planting zone are you in?
@@traceyfrank1298 5. Most places around me are 5b but some pockets seem to be 5a
One of the best gardening advocate channels. Just adjust for your growing zone.
I agree 💯%
Definitely a great channel. Very knowledgeable that you can apply to your zone.
Absolutely adore seeing King Tuck in the garden ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I'VE LEARNT A LOT FROM THIS CHANNEL NOTHING BUT RESPECT TO YOU I GET SO GASSED WHEN I HEAR LETS GOOOO 🤣😂
James: Buttermut is impervious to the squash vine borer bug mama!
I'm in Nova Scotia Canada - so I'm always planting about a month 'behind you' - - could you do a video please on the 'amount of sunshine needed for various plants" - - I have a bed that only gets about 5 hours of direct sunlight during the summer & I struggle as to what 'crops' to grow in there.............Thanks so much - happy gardening to you and Tuck!
Can you go over and list on the comment section or pin it what crops you saw on the ground and what crops you start inside. You name so many of them and I can't keep track unless I see it on visual. Like which ones do you put in the square foot gardening I already lost track, thank you for your video
Strawberry Spinach does well in areas that don't get sun all day long. So do actual Strawberries in pots.
I have a very similar set up for my beds. It’s super hot in Florida during summers so both beds f my beds are in heavily shaded areas and each get about 5 hours of direct sun while the rest is incredibly shady. We’re having a very cold spring (was 50 degrees this morning after a nasty wind storm the day before) but even with the cool temps, I’m noticing that eggplant, peppers, cucumbers, potatoes, onions, garlic, and tomatoes are super happy and full of life… while only 3 out of 12 kale took off and the rest sat almost dormant. Brussels sprouts don’t seem to be enjoying the lack of sun either. Broccoli is sitting rather dormant as well.
It is amazing how we all can successfully grow in different ways, we grow on the cheap & easy 😊 We now started some seeds here to, but our nights are still too cold for certain crops. Zoe our Yorkie too loves to watch me garden.
so true about "it's better to plant to late than too early". I've tested this with a few plants, planted in March and May. Even with two months difference, they still came out at the same time in July
My Remington is digging carrots out of my garden. I just caught him with the stem hanging out of his mouth. I thought, "He's doing the Tuck!"😂 ❤ for Tuck❤
That’s crazy your already planting stuff outside we have to wait almost another month. Also some ♥♥♥ for tuck keep up the great work.
Most of these are cold tolerant. Our last frost is mid-may, but I've had radishes growing since February.
@@theurbanthirdhomestead
Radish sound good right now and I'm around the beginning of May planting also. Good of you to provide your hens with fresh peas 😄. I'd love to put carrots in, but the birds will have the final say as well 😄. Happy Spring 🌼🌱🌼
Please continue with your channel ! It is very great and extremely helpful and we just enjoy the way you are and make ur videos ! Best gardening channel by far ! 😊
Interesting that you mention planting onion sets in April. I did this last year and they didn't get ginormous or anything but they were plenty large enough. I've seen so many UA-camrs disrespecting and advising not to plant onion sets. I'm in northeastern Maryland, so maybe you and I are in just the right planting zone for this.
The reason not to plant onion sets is because they have already gone into dormancy once. Onions are biennial, which means they produce the bulb in the first year and go to seed in the second year. Onion sets already think they're in the second year, so even though they may bulb up, they won't be very good for storage, and many may try to go to seed. I either plant seeds early to transplant, or if I'm buying, I'll buy onion plants instead of sets. Hope that helps!
I like the 1 ft. square board you have- can see quite a few uses for that. I do most of my gardening in a greenhouse (it’s really cold here), so the square foot method is very important to me.
I noticed what you are planting is about a month after when I plant. That means you will be ahead of me this fall. 👍🏼
I enjoyed watching what you’re planting. I’m zone 8a Texas
Many of those "Spring" crops can't be planted until fall here, too. It just gets too hot too quickly. On the other hand, I was harvesting peppers and eggplant in January.
@@elisabetk2595 I'm in zone 8 -- 8b, probably - but since I'm in the foothills of N California peppers and eggplants in January are not on my agenda! On the other hand, that happens for my friend in Baton Rouge sometimes, if the rains don't drown everything. Interesting how different a zone can be...
I love square foot gardening! It works so much better!
is it easier to maximize companion planting with square ft gardening?
@@michaelsherron5750not necessarily. Sq ft gardening is a guideline only, though some take it very very seriously. Often, plants like to be closer together so don’t think sq ft gardening is the only way to go. Group planting in 3’s and 5’s in a zig zag formation allows you to put in more plants that are still spaced as they should be. It’s a beautiful, more natural look as well.
Yes 💯. It really simplified the process 💪🏻. I appreciate all the info here and Tuck ❤

❤️ for Tuck. Thanks for the great tips on spring planting including some varieties to try and how to avoid squash vine borers.
Thank you so much for the carrot seed details. I love the efficiency of the small square. I have to stop broadcasting carrot seeds and ending up with only 3 carrots. Those pots with domes and tray are GREAT!

Fantastic video & visual tutorial using Square foot gardening!
Enjoyed your video. I am still working on improving my container garden and repairing my greenhouse. This year should be good for future years and all i will have to do is replace the top 6 inches of soil year after year. Tck is a charmer 🙏❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
🥰growing your own food is so much fun🥰
❤❤❤ to your garden buddy
❤"s for the King of the Garden - Tuck!
Man I'm so glad I found your channel. Just in time for planting season.
Delicata squash has been my favorite variety so far. I strongly recommend them to anyone, even if you don't like squash much. I find it exceptional and it's easy to work with in the kitchen.
❤for Tuck! He’s so cute 🌱
This video was extremely helpful. Thank you very much please do one every month 😊
Excellent clarity of topic❤
❤️❤️❤️❤️ I e been here for a few years watching you and Tuck, and learning a lot.
Exciting and fun garden video . My Suyo Long cucumbers are coming up in my seed cells which is exciting. I love the trellis system and the pest cover for your Vego beds. Nice gardening methods. I need to thin carrot seedlings out so I will get optimal large carrots instead of puny ones as my Chiapoo loves feasting in the garden just like Tuck. Swiss chard is awesome and tasty. I don't know if you struggle with slugs, snails and cutworms like I do, but I just sprinkled a thick layer of organic corn meal along the edges of my veg beds and planters which makes a huge difference for my seedlings survival as the slugs eat the cornmeal and die... tested and true for me . Thanks for another inspiring garden video, happy growing everyone !
Thanks for sharing!💜🙏🏼
Let's go!
Let's Gooo!! Spring is here!!! 🐕😁❤
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ Love little Tuck!!!
