cool, I'm a ship's electrical engineer, I worked on rivers Lena, Volga, Danube, on sea vessels, but I have not been to the Mississippi, it is very interesting to see river tugs on your river, interiors and equipment
Hey Captain. I live in OKC, Ok. desperately want to start working on the water and work my way up to Captain. took a few basic classes in orlando like basic fire fighting, survival, couple other coast guard certified courses. Where can I possibly get on as a entry level deck hand?? I am a little older, done management, construction, heavy equipment-operating and hauling. not afraid of hard work. Just decided to pursue my life long love of the water. Navy brat from San Diego. thank you very much if you can give me some lead. No body has ever been sorry they hired me.
Start with one of the many towboat companies. Western Rivers, ARTCO, Marquette, Kirby, Blessey, Ingram, or others though google search. Start out as a deckhand, and learn your way up. Good luck to you, sir. It can be a rewarding career.
Yeah just a heads up us seeing this view that you are showing us isn't anything like you living in it I guess you might get tired seeing it after a while but on this side great views every time I see something
It is like a lot of jobs, in that it definitely has some days better than others. I don’t think that I have ever become so jaded that I could not appreciate quite a bit of what I do. I genuinely feel very fortunate most of the time. Finding a career that I have been passionate about did involve some lucky turns, but doing stuff I like has always guided me on this path.
@@marktwained yeah I’ll never forget that night the closest boat was 45 minutes away our fire pump went out immediately we had nothing co2 system failed we were lucky to even catch a line we went dark and that was it no warnings no issues until boom we’re full fledge fully engulfed engine room fuel fed fire for hours
@@marktwained yep this is Scott I steered my first lock alone on your watch. I learned more from that than anything else I had done. Ya just gotta do it some can some can’t lol that was cool it was always a pleasure to have you on the boat. Pokey was pilot

Captain Kyle is in my mind next to president Trump. Great respect for both of them
Great captain. Rode first mate for him for a little over 2 years. Some of the last of his kind of boat operators
Nice boat, wheel house, lots of good food.... Always like to see what is cooking ! ! !
Nice! Only problem is that it was TO short. Great seeing the traffic and the boat. Ty for sharing.
I was in Destrehan in the 60s on a British bulk carrier. No Bridge then just the ferry
KEEP IT UP BROTHER LOUISIANA RIVER RAT MYSELF! enterprise marine services!
my 1st boat ride was m\v helfelfinger in 1982 a peavy company boat maiden voyage
Looks great , only think i don't like in them is the small showers, I find it hard to fit in them.
Nice ride Skipper.
I wish I could go back out there and cook again. Just not ACBL. I heard that was the worse thing I could have been through as a cook.
If I had it all over to do again, I would have worked the river instead of the gulf.
The Wilson suite lol

Some of the whitecaps I have seen on the Tennessee would come over the sides of that boat.
Watertight (?) doors or nothing to get wet on that level
Opened to take on supplies
marktwained what's the biggest tow you've done in all your career?
What vape you got bo$$?
Was one of two vessels shoving 63 empty barges northbound. I’ve brought 40
That's me in the video
Why did you have to catch this boar? Was the last captain sick or quit or maybe ran out of logging hours?
Normal rotation for days off.
Logging hours? No such thing. Ride as long as you and/or company want. 👍🏻
I start my first job as a deckhand on a push boat next Wednesday, the 27th; 28 days on, 14 days off. Is there any advice you can give me?
Stay busy and keep the captain happy. 👍🏻
Very beatuful engine sound!!! Is it Cummins, Caterpillar?
EMD
Hi Kyle
Always enjoy your videos but they are too short and too far in between. But thank you for sharing your river experiences.
ThAt one big barge
Do you ever go up around LaCross or Lansing Iowa?
Yes, but not this boat, not this trip
Is that left hand turn under the bridge as bad as they make it out heading north? :)
Man I miss the Janice I rode that boat a long time was on her the night of the fire
Was you the pilot? If so, I remember that night well. Y’all got on Britney looking wet, cold and tired.
@@marktwained I was Andy’s mate for several years I was steering right before it happened
