That's a Catholic prayer for the Dead. We sing that during funeral and when the Holy Mass is said in Latin. It's about the judgement and wrath God. Gregorian Chant was named after Pope Gregory the Great. Gregorian chant is the official chant of the Catholic Church, you can still hear that in monasteries, Cathedrals, Vatican of course and churches saying Latin Mass.

      Classic Catholic false doctrine.
Everything the Catholics do violates the principle that Jesus actually died for our sins... Jesus died for my sins and I'm dead then I'm in heaven, why would you need to pray for me?

How do you get to hell?
Very simple: claim that you're innocent.
How do you get to heaven?
Very simple: Admit that you're not Innocent, you're guilty and ask for mercy.
How to know if you're guilty or not?
Simply: Compare your life to the Ten Commandments God gave you in the Bible.
Everyone agrees that if people followed the ten commandments there would be no need for governments or police.
      Do not lie.
      Do not steal.
      Do not commit adultery.
Do not insult God by using his name as a cuss word.
There are six more but let's just leave it at that.
How many lies have you told in your life?
Have you ever taken anything that didn't belong to you?
Jesus said, if you look at a women lustfully you've already committed adultery in your heart with that woman.
How many times a day do you do that?
Do you use God's name as a cuss word?
Would you do that with your own mother's name?
If you answer these questions honestly you know that you're guilty.
God can justly punish you and send you to hell.
      Ask him for mercy.
      His name is Jesus.

I'm Catholic and this is the first time I've ever heard of a "professional Gregorian chant singer". We usually just have nuns, brothers and priests who sang it. Most catholics choirs (who sometimes perform it) don't really specialize in 1 particular style. When I was part of my choir when I was studying in a catholic school, we sang both in English, Latin and the occasional Italian. Latin is so rarely used in Mass that most Catholic choirs only perform it when the service is either all in Latin or its Easter, Christmas, etc.

The Gregorian Chants are actually an entire school of sacred music that was developed and preserved by the Order of Saint Benedict. There are many chants for different purposes and different times of the day and year. In that respect they’re a bit like Indian ragas.
The “Dies Irae” is often sung at funerals and, as I remember, during Holy Week. The lyrics concern Judgement Day. The Gregorian system of notation was the foundation of the Western system of musical notation that has been one of the greatest achievements of The West, because it has allowed us to preserve centuries of great music precisely as the composers intended.

I can find the inner beatitude of a cathedral as much as anyone who prays in it. Just as I follow my conscience to do good, I follow my heart to love and my soul to be at peace; nature has designed us this way. @@hart.6230This is very clear; we are to continue to share God's great news.
This is very clear because of 1 john 5:13 ... "I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may *know* that you have eternal life."
God wants the world to KNOW, and be in no more doubt, that full forgiveness and reconciliation with Himself has been purchased with His son's blood. Blessed assurance.
But we need to be clear, Christians should not be in the business of converting anyone. Our job is to share the good news, and teach everyone who will listen to obey all that Christ taught us. We can never convert anyone. Each person has to make the choice for themselves.
It's a subtle, but vitally important distinction. It's God's work that He does through us, through his gospel. If our hearers love God, then they will do what Christ taught. But we are commissioned to encourage those around us to follow Christ. How can they obey Christ if we don’t teach them?
If some people are religious and without true love for God then, they will not accept Christ' finished work. But that’s their responsibility. We are not responsible for someone else’s response.
Jesus said, "All that the Father gives Me will come to Me, and the one who comes to Me I will certainly not cast out. For I have come down from heaven, not to do My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me. This is the will of Him who sent Me, that of all that He has given Me I lose nothing, but raise it up on the last day.
For this is the will of My Father, that everyone who beholds the Son and believes in Him will have eternal life, and I Myself will raise him up on the last day.” (John 6:37-40)

The Dies Irae (meaning "Day of Wrath"), specifically, is one of the most beautiful chants and carries a very important meaning. It is meant as a reminder that God's Word as spoken by the prophets will be fulfilled and that evil will finally be punished, as well as being an appeal to God's mercy for the weak and poor souls who repent that they will not be condemned with the wicked.

@@brianhale3678 Seems most things the Abrahamic god demands you don't do are the very things that make us human. A bit of an insecure celestial dictator isn't he.
Please, the ten commandments are hardly special. The first three are just god demanding the utter supremacy of himself and his religion (nothing to do with morals), the fourth isn't necessary as we should honor people who earn it, there's a provision against killing and two against lying (which anyone with basic human empathy understands is wrong), and then the rest are just various different ways of saying "Don't steal" (again, which we know is wrong regardless of religion).
You can shorten the whole thing to:
      - Worship me and my proxies blindly
      - Don't mislead or otherwise harm people
Simple rules, and the first one isn't even morally correct. In fact, it breeds ignorance and hostility toward other beliefs.
I've said it before, if you need the fear of an almighty dictator to motivate you to be good and to tell you right from wrong, you may lack empathy.
We have a word for that: Psychopath

      "spellbinding"
Perfect choice of words. Gregorian chants are designed to be highly hypnotic opening your mind to demonic powers. It's a technique used in almost all Pagan religions.
Islam, Buddhism... all use haunting chants, which place a "Spell" on you and open you up for demonic suggestions and even sometimes possession.
      BEWARE.

Gregorian chanting is some of the oldest choral music dating back to the start of the century. Sung by monks and nuns. Even to an atheist like me, the music is very moving. I remember reading that the tone and pitch of the chanting creates vibrations which sooth the human mind. Shaeen mentioned the language at the beginning. It was Latin. Back in those day Christianity was Roman catholic.

I already believe most of the stuff they do and go to Divine Liturgy instead of Mass. I'm not sure on the Pope, and I don't understand Orthodox views on Original Sin, Purgatory and a couple of other things to make a firm decision. I am trying to research things to come to a rational and well thought out decision.

Christianity has a deep history in India going back almost 2000 years. Many Indian Christians call themselves "Thomas Christians" because they believe that Thomas the Apostle came to India and brought the faith to them. He is said to have been killed for his faith in India. The Indian State of Kerala along the southwestern shore of the sub-continent is (perhaps) majority Christian. The people of Tamil Nadu - also a southern state - has a significant Christian population. Jesuits came to India in the 16th century and established major Christian colonies that are still vital today. Most of the Christians in India are related to the Catholic Church by rite; they have their own liturgical rites, which are linked to and accepted by the Catholic Church. Protestantism came to India with the British during the 18th and 19th century. Its foothold, in terms of overall numbers of converted Indian Christianity, is not as deep or secure as the Catholic influence.
