  • "These animals are so incredible and so entertaining that they make our most extraordinary science fiction seem dull in comparison." - Craig Foster.
For the past 6 years, Craig has swum in the cold Atlantic Ocean (without a wetsuit), every day. The kelp forest has completely transformed his life.

Watching this video and then reading the comments tells me that there are waves of human beings who are hungry to reconnect with nature and our non-human family. It is basic to our most elemental drives. If you did this filming yourself, and I assume you did, this is one you had to get wet or go home. So glad you dived in. As always, the videography and the way you framed the whole episode is masterful. All eight of my arms (two human and six honorary) are waving a grand thank you.

I did a big write up about "My Octopus Teacher" on our netflix page & i was encouraged to see just how many people in Australia decided to watch it & each one commented how it made them feel & what they got out of it, hope in HumanKIND restored. We were in lock down, a lock down we have only recently come out of but while everyone was angry about being isolated, i was in my element. Like Craig, i have become disconnected from my own species & traumatised & i only connect & relate to "Creature Teachers" now. I think people around me are discombobulated & out of sync but The Natural world Masters Yin & Yang & The Tao of life effortlessly so i feel safe in their company. Craig i totally related too & that Octopus, geez i cried like a sobbing child when it past away but clearly her final dance in the kelp was a celebration of her Ascension to come, her gratitude to her human for his friendship & i was happy for her in the end because she passed the school of life with flying colors & Craig came home to himself, all very encouraging, i hope Craig makes more documentaries. I Love This Channel 🥰🙏

I keep watching this video over and over again- It's struck such a deep chord. This is in fact the most pressing issue of our times. Our perceived separation from nature is at the heart of nearly all our Ills. Once articulated it becomes so obvious. We are living in a fantasy world, while the real reason we are here beckons us on.
Please keep making videos, the world needs people who spread enlightening ideas, deliberate and consistent reminders can create lasting positive net change.

@@ReflectionsofLife The stunning "My Octopus Teacher" is what led me here. I live in San Diego, and for the past few months I had this urge to go swimming in the Pacific ocean, even when the waters are cold. Then I saw the documentary and immediately recognized what Craig was doing and talking about. All of a sudden, I understood why I was going out swimming. Unknowingly, yet intuitively I knew that immersion in Wild like the ocean is medicine for the mind, body and spirit. I have a feeling that many of the millions who have seen or yet to see will recognize this in their own way as well. And it will bring them to search for others who understand this universal truth. The same way it brought me here. ~ Dan Z

And now I want to be completely silly:

“ Well, YOU never have Time for ME anymore!!
    I’m wearing a new dress-
You HAVE’NT even noticed!!!! Don’t you LOVE me Anymore???”
Octopus man, “ it’s like you’re in a steel cage, protecting yourself from the trauma, of the disconnection of your REAL self...”
Wife: “ Well, WHAT does THAT mean?!!
Perhaps if I Wrapped myself in KELP, you’d NOTICE me???!!!
Or if the Sound of the Ocean came out of MY mouth, you’d FEEL something??!!!”
Octopus man, “ Yes, you are getting the idea.
Be CONNECTED to the Wild. “
Wife: “I want to be connected to YOU! “
    Oct. Man, “ Well-
ahemm... there is a lovely SEAL Outfit you could put on?? Better than ANY SCI-FI!!!”
They were last seen by Search and Rescue
Frog men, treading water, waving their arms about, to signal the S&R Crew, calling for KELP!!!!

Hi , who are the film makers and who is the narrator/ diver? Thank you

    • @ReflectionsofLife
      @ReflectionsofLife  5 років тому +2

Hi Lynne. We, the filmmakers, are a small collective of 4 people who live just outside of Cape Town in South Africa. This weekly film series is a passion project of ours which we mostly fund and film in our spare time, along with a bit of support from our patrons on Patreon. We've been doing lots of filming and editing, working hard to keep bringing out a new film every Wednesday - so stay tuned - we've got so many more incredible stories to share in the weeks and months ahead. You can view all our work on our YT channel, or here - www.patreon.com/greenrenaissance
The diver is a friend of ours called Craig Foster - he does amazing work - see here - seachangeproject.com/
Keep well, and stay in touch :) xx

Thank you for your interest Casiopea. We usually don't translate any of the older videos. Sorry about that. And at the time we did not have anyone that was able to assist us with translations, we rely on volunteers. Warm wishes, Justine and Michael. 💚

    Hi
It's lovely that he swims around all day.
Let's hear the full story rather than the version where he lectures and judges other people's lives and decides everyone else is traumatized in mainstream life.
Let's hear how he funds this and if or how he lives without products and services created hard working traumatized people ?
Did he work in main stream for years and possibly contribute to traumatizing others ?
Come on now please. A more complete balanced picture would be fairer to people.
If he truly wants to help people let's hear how he created the situation and how he lives.

@Sow AG - You ask valuable questions. Given that these little stories of ours are filmed in a day, and edited in two days, we can't share it all - we can't address all the details of someones life. These are aimed at providing a small dose of inspiration for someone who finds themselves on a similar journey to the character, or with similar thoughts and ideas - to feel a sense of connection. To address all the types of questions that you are asking, we'd need to produce full length documentaries on each person - and that's just not what we're about :) To hear more on Craig's personal story, you might want to watch 'My Octopus Teacher' on Netflix. Good wishes to you x

@Sow AG - Craig is a documentary filmmaker. For 'The Great Dance' - he lived for three years in the desert with the San Bushmen tribe in order to document their culture, traditions and beliefs. In 'My Octopus Teacher' he elaborates a lot more about why he chose to swim in the ocean every day, what drove him to do this, what he learnt . I think that through the watching of these two stories, you might find that you learn more about how he thinks and feels. If you prefer, I could put you directly in touch with Craig to answer some of your questions you might have - just let me know :)

      Hi
to do this it would seem that he would need to use quite some amount of modern world services and products. Planes cars fuel cameras, im guessing the list is endless.
it just seems out of balance with the philosophy that he speaks of.

@@Onlinesully Watch his film before judging his ways.
By using the camera he could share his incredible beautiful story with all of us!
By the way, he didn’t need planes, cars and stuff like that. He just walked from his house near the sea, on to the beach, into the water...
And there he filmed what he saw. You could have known this by watching his film. But is seems you don’t really want to know about him and how he did this.
      Take some effort.
