I think that “And I want my pink shirt” is a pretty sad line because Damian didn’t even know Cady for a full day and he still offered to share his shirt with her and comparing the pink shirt to the friendship between them makes it sad. Damian didn’t know Cady but he offered to share his friendship and now that she has betrayed him he wants it back.
it's also interesting because instead of "til someone gets hurt", the line is different but still rhymes with the original, because someone has already been hurt.
It was a good musical, but its basically heathers but less good lmao. And thats coming from someone who loved mean girls, both the movie and the musical.
I love how Barrett W.W. is able to express all of Janis' pain through her life in this song. It's like you can hear her belt resonate within your soul. The pain from all the bullying and loneliness in Janis' life are not only heard, but felt. You're amazing Barrett. Keep on doing you.

0:26 I hope someone else recognized that insane guitar riff going on while Janis is going off; I think it actually adds to her solo as a regretful, yet undoubtedly sure supporting layer to her goodbye to Cady. Also, Barrett Wilbert Weed is a goddess; common knowledge, but still a valid point.
Even though is the shortest song in the musical, it’s probably my favourite because it just has so much emotion and because it’s a good song to scream along to when you’re making 2-minute noodles
I really love how powerful this is while Janis yes is being betrayed she did her part in using Cady to get back at Regina. I love how both of her friend groups has toxicity. The plastics was more clear and obvious but Janis was still toxic. I love this play

And I want my pink shirt That line hit me worse than anything in this song. The level of hate and spite cause a lot would say keep the shirt because you've touched it its tainted. No he wants it back, you don't deserve to remember what I've done for you. You don't deserve to feel the pain because you dont deserve to feel.
Man! Barrett W. W. Rocks in every song she’s in but this one is especially good. The power in her voice and the emotion displayed in it is over the top amazing. And this song isn’t even a full minute long and it’s so good!
Really resonating with this song 😭 y’all ever have a friend who you’ve been friends with for over 13 years of your life and they just suddenly pretend like they don’t know you?
no it’s *FIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIINE* you can really hear the true emotions in this song as janis belts it to her hearts content and i think more broadway actors should show this much emotion into their singing / performance
Unpopular opinion but I feel like Janis is just as much of a villain as Regina. Janis is motivated purely by spite and is manipulative. Cady in the movie is pretty passive but in the show she's a lot more eager to fit in. Janis (Damien is really just there for the ride) takes advantage of this and basically says "well if you want friends you have to bring down Regina for me". No one really sees this as wrong and she's never held accountable it's so confusing. I don't understand why she acts so high and mighty "you can't buy integrity". Janis you don't have any! What upsets me the most though is how she is mad at Cady for getting wrapped up in the plan that Janis herself devised. Does Janis not understand that Cady's new to literally all of her surroundings? Cady gets to act immature because she doesn't know any better. What Janis says in this song confused me so much when I saw this in the theater. Cady says, "It was your idea" and Janis just ignores that part and starts saying she thinks they're all stupid? Where did that come from? And I don't blame Cady for not wanting to go to Janis' art show, they're just acquaintances with a shared goal. In the movie they did a better job of developing them as friends. "I'd Rather Be Me" is basically Janis saying she isn't sorry for any of what she did to Regina. And I totally agree that you shouldn't apologize for being yourself (i.e. her being gay which I'm assuming she is because she doesn't end up with Kevin like she does in the movie). She should have apologized for stooping to Regina's level, their plan was 1. All her idea and 2. Wrong. Isn't the message of the show that you should be nice to people? But the most vindictive person doesn't have to apologize? And for what someone did to you in 8th grade? A middle schooler being homophobic isn't their fault, it's their parents for not teaching them better. And we know Regina's mom only cares about being cool. So it's kind of crazy to me that at 16 Janis would still basically poison Regina with those bars for what happened so long ago. And she doesn't "forgive Cady" until the very end. For people who didn't see the musical Cady tries to say she's sorry to Janis but she won't forgive her. Then (like a month later) at the spring fling Damien asks Janis, "Are you going to forgive Cady now?". Forgive her for what? Janis then forgives her but it all seemed so evil. I know that's overly analytical but does anyone agree or am I crazy?
Epic Face-Swaps I don't agree with every point but Janis is not a good character by any means. Not in the sense of grey morality, no she's shit. Other points to make are all over the movie. She lies to Cady and makes her miss a class. She manipulated her to hurt the plastics. She calls her cady instead of Katie while even Regina pronounces it right. She makes fun of a wholesome teacher. She won't get over Regina. Etc etc. Even in the musical like the movie tells her to hurt poor fragile Gretchen.
Noah Henderson wow thank you so much for your reply, I really thought this would just get lost in the haystack. But you make a lot of really good points, I didn't even think of most of that. Glad to hear that my friends and I aren't the only people who think this way. The show would be perfect if Janis learned her lesson too but oh well.
While I don't entirely agree (complete bias, though: Janis is my favorite), I do respect the things you hate about her. In the musical, when Damian asks "did Cady apologize yet?" (Or something along those lines), Janis responds with "No. Because then I'd have to admit I also did wrong." So there's that, but eh- But that aside, I think Janis is kind of on par with most people. Like, I don't think anyone here can say that they haven't done some petty things to someone they don't like. Maybe not to the extent that the trio went, but that's what the movie is: an over-exaggerated parody of real life. Janis sort of represents that side of people who do shady and petty things on the grounds of "I hate them". However, Janis's motives derive from being bullied from 8th grade forward (you can see she still gets bullied in high school in the movie), and so her unchecked bitterness provides her a motive. A fucked up motive, but a motive nonetheless. And she actually does have integrity, believe it or not. Integrity is "The quality of being honest and having strong moral principles; moral uprightness." Her morals weren't right in the eyes of most people (no one's morals are. Someone could be morally grey or morally black and white, and each could think the other is wrong, when no one's morals are. That's honestly how ethics works), but Janis does establish integrity. She is honest as Hell, and her "moral uprightness" comes from her standing up against the Plastics, or refusing to bend to their every whim. She's petty, sure, but she does have integrity. Anyways, my points are not a direct attack on you, and I respect that you don't like her, but I just wanted to shed a little light. Thank you.
No offense taken, I love to have in-depth debates like this. Here we go... I think it's kind of messed up that Janis wouldn't let Cady apologize to her because Janis didn't want to say that she did something wrong. It's nice that she admitted it, but she only says it to Damien and never apologizes to Cady herself. And I totally agree that she's on par with most people. Everyone has a little bad and good in them. What annoys me is that throughout the movie / musical she acts like she's better than everyone. "I'd Rather Be Me" is her saying that she doesn't owe anyone an apology. Her narration with Damien throughout the musical is constantly berating Cady for her bad behavior but she never takes any sort of blame. The theme of the musical is that you should be nice to everyone. Janis herself says at the spring fling (something like) "Everyone is a person even if you hate them, so get off their dicks". That's super hypocritical coming from someone who spent the whole show trying to get revenge. Bullying is never okay, but someone with real integrity would be the bigger person and move on. Fake integrity is manipulating the new and eager-to-fit-in student to do all of your dirty work. Tina Fey said in an interview that she based Janis' revenge off her own pettiness in high school. Tina talked about how she would gossip about people and eventually learned that it was toxic. Which is a great message, I just think they could have done a better job with it by taking Janis off her pedestal and make her apologize.
Epic Face-Swaps Oh yeah, totally. She did need to be taken down a notch, or at least apologise to Cady for abusing her relationship with her friend for revenge. I also liked how Cady does call her out on the fact that Janis used her for her revenge plot, but Cady also had a lot of opportunities to say no. That being said, she didn't say no _because_ of the fact she wanted to fit in. Personally, I don't understand that because it never bothered me if I had friends or not, but I digress- Janis should have apologized, and Cady could have said no, but she didn't. And in fairness, Cady did refuse to help sabotage Regina. She was just being a spy, up until Aaron got back together with Regina. Janis was fine with only getting information from Cady, and then went through with the plan when Cady was angry(I.e. vulnerable), which is messed up as well. But Cady let her crush on Aaron fuel her own revenge plot that, honestly, had nothing to do with Janis's agenda (as seen in the movie when Cady started planning her own "revenge" on Regina). I sound like a diplomatic troll, and I swear that is not my intention. Again, don't take my word for it, as I am _clearly_ biased lmao.
Probably my favorite song in the show. I've been here, man. That emotion is hella raw from Barrett and I'm so in love with her vocals and the way the instrumental enhances the emotions you could already hear in her voice. Stellar performance!!

This song perfectly shows betrayal. The vocals, the lyrics, the tones changing so smoothly! I love it so much!!!!!!!

The fact this was made 5 years ago and is now trending like crazy
😡😡😡😡 FINE!!!!!
Poor Janis... you can tell she is really betrayed and hurt. This is the song I would sing to everyone in my past who has hurt and pushed me away...
Barrett is so good in this?? She conveys the emotion so well, you can feel the passive-aggressiveness in her tone and im shaken rn
Man! Barrett W. W. Rocks in every song she’s in but this one is especially good. The power in her voice and the emotion displayed in it is over the top amazing. And this song isn’t even a full minute long and it’s so good!
Jesus loves you 💗
I LOVE BARRETT'S VOICE
Rumor has it Damian never got his pink shirt back
Really resonating with this song 😭 y’all ever have a friend who you’ve been friends with for over 13 years of your life and they just suddenly pretend like they don’t know you?
Not that long but 5-6th grade 2 separate girls and they both went after my disability
@@Jadelyn_Bella Honestly that sucks, that's terrible that they would do that.
@@erikluis1476 yeah, still really wanna punch em
Holy shit man gives me chills everytime
I want a full version ugh ITS SO GOOD UGHHH
The voice of Jannis sounds so familiar in this then I realized it was Barrett. The woman who played Veronica in Heathers
I just started listening to this soundtrack and I was thinking that she sounded like Veronica so at least now I know I’m not going crazy lol
When Janice goes “It’s fine~” that’s one of my favorite parts of the musical
Crying at how good this is
THE WAY THAT BARRETT GOES FROM SPEAKING TO BELTING ABSOLUTELY AMAZES ME
idk if i prefer the reprise or the original song
*B O T H*
no it’s *FIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIINE*
you can really hear the true emotions in this song as janis belts it to her hearts content and i think more broadway actors should show this much emotion into their singing / performance
00:25 When you see a girl crying and ask her if everything's okay
Because then I'd have to admit I also did wrong." So there's that, but eh-
But that aside, I think Janis is kind of on par with most people.
Integrity is "The quality of being honest and having strong moral principles; moral uprightness."
Her morals weren't right in the eyes of most people (no one's morals are.
Epic Face-Swaps
Oh yeah, totally.
Personally, I don't understand that because it never bothered me if I had friends or not, but I digress-
Janis should have apologized, and Cady could have said no, but she didn't.
