0:56 just so we're clear the embryo is the red dot. The yolk, yellow portion, is the food. The albumen, clear part which becomes white when cook, is for support, hydration, fighting microbes, and a bit of nourishment.

Glad there's one other person here who knows their way around food. It's an important distinction; the yolk is mostly fat, and the white is largely protein. And the embryo sometimes needs to be removed in fertilized eggs.

English Majors can make anything seem like anything.
Example: clothing is really a metaphor for life, for society. We are together, stitched together in each of our separate relationships, but sometimes we break apart, sometimes we get holes. Over time we fall apart. But that's the cool thing about life, it goes on despite it all. In the end, we can make our choices, every one of us. Get new threads, find new friends, or stitch together and create the strongest possible relationship that lasts forever.
Cool thing is, we can make both choices. In cases, life gives us more than one shirt on our back, but in any case. Let's take care of the clothing we got.
In the case of eggs, like he said, it was patience. What causes him to fail, to crack, was his decision to be indelicate.
You have to be careful and prepared in every bit and aspect. It isn't the 10 great things you did, but the 1 bad one that trips you up.

I was on a 10 hour bus ride home from college, and loved watching the egg peeling process. Chat was fun, the ASMR vibes were there, and watching the steady climb in viewership as people stopped by and stayed to watch a man peel a raw egg made it such a fun thing to be a part of. I think it peaked at 41k, at what was for me 1 AM. Thanks Lud

Love the video. Also the yolk isn’t an embryo, it’s food too, there’s a tiny white slimy bit on the side of the yolk called the “germ spot” and that’s the “embryo” but it’s not an embryo, embryo is when it’s fertilized. Eggs are not fertilized, they’re essentially chicken monthly menstruation and have not been fermented with sperm. Great video, just thought I’d point that out :)
Some eggs are fertilized, roosters are kept in certain egg production systems but rarely or never on the biggest modern commercial egg farms. :)
I know its a simple typo. But, "Fermented with sperm" may be the grossest 3 word combination I have ever read.

Fun fact: if you want to do easy mode, you can indeed patch holes with superglue. However, you need to remove the shell surrounding the hole because if you don’t, you’ll be supergluing the shell to the membranr

Friendly reminder that you can compost eggs. That way you aren’t even wasting them. Putting food scraps in a trash bag is wasteful because the bag prevents scavengers and decomposers from reaching the organic material.

The yellow is not the embryo. The yellow is the nutrient sack. The embryo is very small, hard to even know it’s there unless you know what you’re looking for.

I owned one of those myself in the past. I used it to scrape weed that gets stuck in the bottom of the grinder, or the back side of it to push down ashes. We just called it a poker.

Biology update, the yolk is not the embryo. The yolk is a food source for the developing embryo. That tiny red dot in the diagram, that's the embryo when the egg is fertilized and it takes up the whole space. The protein rich egg whites are a defense mechanism, both thermal and mechanical, that also provides a source of water and then extra amino acids (protein building blocks) while the chick develops and grows to take up the whole egg. Egg whites aren't a primary nutrition source for the developing chick.
The bottom gas pocket is for gas exchange so the developing chicken is able to get oxygen and release carbon dioxide.
Spots and egg color don't really mean anything. Each breed of chicken is different and produces different eggs due to pigments made in their body along the egg tract. Shell strength largely comes from calcium, so chicken with less calcium in their diet will have weaker shells (and weaker bones and a higher risk of dying from complications like egg binding). That's why you can make the egg shell rubber by letting the egg soak in vinegar, it dissolves the calcium but leaves the rest of the material there.

Amazing vid! Only thing, just to correct you a bit, is that the yellow part is NOT the baby but rather is the nutrients that feeds the embryo. But the embryo itself is also located right near it if the egg is fertilized by a rooster, a fertilized egg would eventually get like a weird red splotch in the yolk (yellow part) that would turn into the chick itself. I think the white outside layer itself is just protection and additional nutrients beyond the yolk. ☺️☺️ (honestly I wasn’t sure myself about all of this and had to look up a few parts to be sure, but that is basically how the egg works. And no I’m not trying to be like the “um actually dude” just thought I might as well try to clarify cause it’s a misconception that the yolk is to be embryo once fertilized.)

If you cook eggs a lot, you've had tines when the shell breaks and peels off, but the membrane is intact
we did an experiment in middle school like this but over the course of a week and rather than just peeling we soaked it in some solution and other stuff. it’s really cool.

back in middle school biology class for some reason we put eggs in vineggar for a full day and then swapped it to a cup full of corn syrup i think and it replaced the interior with the corn syrup. there must have been a few more steps but i cant remember eggsactly what else we did
