Joe Levi reviewing a Nexus phone should be what happens every year. Also Joe, we miss you on here! Don't pay attention to the newbies that don't bother to do a little research
Good review Joe! I quite like your voice despite what others are saying, and the amount of people correcting you on Nexus Imprint is funny. Really enjoyed the review, very detailed and informative! Keep up the good work! :)
When it dawned on me that Michael wasn't doing this one my heart sank a little but I stuck with it and am very glad I did because as usual you have delivered a top notch review, keep them coming.
Damn, for some reason this just really brings back so many memories of Joe's numerous Nexus 4 videos. Remember, he had the mahogany Nexus 4 and he also shattered his. So many great memories of those videos.
Joe, with this one right here, you have put together one of the best, detailed and useful reviews on a smartphone ever made. I am looking forward to more of these. Cheers. 😊
+iMiguelAOG Yup, Brandon and I are both alive... Brandon's a new daddy, and I've been busy building a new house... more on that coming in the next several months...
***** Congratulations to him, and that's cool that you're building a new house. It was just weird to not see any videos from you guys after being used to you two being the main two I would see on this channel back in 2010 and 2011
- yep, its a stupid excuse. They cut a few corners on this one. They really should have included OIS. It would have made the Nexus 6P's camera on par with the S6
Thanks Joe Levi for the review . My god where do you guys from Pocketnow get such awsome soundtracks for your videos ?! I wach a lot your videos again only for the epic soundtracks :) . I love the soundtrack that starts at 4:11 it gives you a wierd feeling
Great review, +Joe Levi! Thinking of getting one (only $300 for Black Friday) as a DD. Also, out of curiosity, what happened to Michael and Brandon? Glad to see you back, though (last thing I saw you review was the Droid 1 or 4, I believe)
You can always count on Joe for those in depth reviews. This is hands down the most useful review of this phone I've seen, and it's the first time I've heard of the CPU utils issue on wake from sleep. Probably due to the Doze feature and fixable with an update, but still, it's slightly worrying for me.
Pull down the notification center, long press the settings icon for a few second and you will unlock additional settings for Android 6.0. Battery percentage, change the quick toggles etc. Try it :)
The video quality is really good but the audio quality, not so much. I recommend the Blue Snowball microphone, as it is a very nice microphone for a relatively low price.
I bought the 5X for three reasons: 1) NEXUS software & updates, 2) i don't like big phones (5.5" G4 style is as big as I'll go), 3) the 2013 NEXUS 5 was one of my all-time factor phones. I'm experiencing all the issues you described, PLUS poor battery life with moderate use. I did a factory reset yesterday followed by a clean install, camera buggy, waking from sleep very buggy. a few times i has to press the power button ten times to get the phone to wake up. Apps keep fishing and crashing, Google Apps, not third party special sauce stuff. I'm about ready to send this back for a refund. I also have a Samsung S6 Edge which runs flawless. I had high hopes for this phone but now low satisfaction.
Tbh the Original Nexus 5 is still a great deal. I've used mine for a bit over a year, and performance is great! With doze my battery often lastes 2 days. that might sound crazy, but when you're a light user such as myself, doze will really help you out. Good review, but dude; You need to control the music, somtimes it was crazy loud (especially right after the intro and at the ending). Anyways, I can say, that I enjoyed this almost as much, as if MF did it, which means a lot!
Very happy with my S6 Edge + running fully stock, even not rooted. Its running very smooth, never thought i would say this but i actually like Touchwizz more then the boring stock android. The camera is amazing and the screen, well ... no words for it.
Great review :) Think I'll hold onto my 5 for a lil while longer, I wouldn't go for 16gb, and for $70 more than the $50 premium for 32gb I can get the 6P. The video shouldn't be normalized to 23.976fps, frame skip city there. Would be great if it could shoot 24fps. It may be a great value in the states but Canada and the rest of the world...not so much. Hows the transfer rate through the computer? if you have an adapter that is.
It is £380 for the 32gb version in the UK! I can get a Note 5 for £49 more or an LG G4 for £95 less. Either are miles better value pound for pound, though Nexus will have better updates, but not worth the money for that.
I'm pretty happy I bought the Z3 Compact a year ago and decided not to wait on a Nexus. It took long, the newer Snapdragon SOCs are disappointing, the Z3c looks better and has better Battery live and also camera I'd say, even though it has a 5 years old sensor. Also there is Micro SD, which is only going to get better once it gets 6.0
+SammyT indeed. I've used the lg g4 and the note 5. the snapdragon 808 is quite sad compared to the Exynos 7420. 2 more cores make a worlds worth of difference. if the nexus 5x and the same internals as the 6p there would have been no hesitation, but I need 3gb of ram and the larger battery is a plus so 6p it is.
The consequences of doze mode? This is one of the most anticipated features of Android Marshmallow I hope Google provides a fix soon. I've been hearing words like slow and stutter in many 5x reviews. It's hard for me to believe it is the processor. This is a phone I had high hopes for, so I hope you can do a follow up review soon before the after the buzz review.
Eugh, so many companies these days change products for changes sake. The Nexus 5 was perfect, just the right size, slim line, screen was perfect size, they they release this fablet shit. I liked the nexus 5 so much i bought 2 of them and they are both going strong :-)
I have this phone and let me tell you I miss AMOLED. The screen is very clear and has true colours, it lacks any punch or vibrancy. And I'm very impressed with the phone, idk if it's android marshmallow but the 2gb ram is very competent! It does a slight reload, but it never shuts off anything. Only problem is the battery is just meh.
great job great phone. but here in Germany it costs 500 euros and I'm talking about the base model with 16 gigabytes. I love my Nexus 5 but is this really worth it?
Dude u have made a really good video! to be honest I wasn't expecting a video this good from u, every video maker should make u listen not bore u that's y Micheal mr captain is so popular, & also Jaime , besides that ,I'm really looking forward for more reviews from u and for God sake " stop disappearing". C u soon bro ,Tc peace.
+Kevin Rayo It's not like you turn it on or off every 5 minutes or do you? I mean come on man, 98% of the time we just unlock our phones not turn them completely off
Very well done review. Really made me not to buy this Nexus 5X. I still have the Nexus 5, still using it and I was thinking of buying this new Nexus 5X, but it doesn't see to convince me to get it. I rather wait and save that money for now, and maybe get the OnePlus 2.
+Cakefish That's what I thought too... but my Nexus 9 and Nexus 6 (both running Marshmallow) don't have the same kind of delay at startup... still investigating...
+Joe Levi I have faced the same slow down with the Nexus 6. Sometimes after waking the device after a very long time, it seems that a major slow down occurs. Great review of the 5x!
Joe Levi reviewing a Nexus phone should be what happens every year. Also Joe, we miss you on here! Don't pay attention to the newbies that don't bother to do a little research
ikr I joined pocketnow some time in 2014 but I go back and watch their old stuff all the time.

Hayato leaving anyway
***** Why? :O
Good review Joe! I quite like your voice despite what others are saying, and the amount of people correcting you on Nexus Imprint is funny. Really enjoyed the review, very detailed and informative! Keep up the good work! :)

+Jesse McClure I've primarily been writing editorial articles for Pocketnow, but I've still been doing some videos - just not as many.
nice to have you back joe Levi
Finally, someone who points out the GOOD things about the phone, great review!
Nice to have you back #Joe Levi, I started to think you were gone from Pocketnow.
He knows many things about Android and a Nexus 5X review is just his best comeback. Good to see you man! :)
Great, honest review of this phone! Love this channel!
I like it how you guys have different ways of reviewing devices, but all end up feeling very pocketnow-like. awesome review !
Great review! Covered everything, and I wasn't left with any questions. I hope Joe Levi can return for more reviews in the future.
Joe, dude, excellent review, super in depth. Great to have ya` back. Couldn`t hit the like button fast enough. :)
+Ciprian Adochitei Thanks!
When it dawned on me that Michael wasn't doing this one my heart sank a little but I stuck with it and am very glad I did because as usual you have delivered a top notch review, keep them coming.
+Ben Hadley Michael took the Nexus 6P review while I did the Nexus 5X... He does great reviews! Such an awesome guy!
Damn, for some reason this just really brings back so many memories of Joe's numerous Nexus 4 videos. Remember, he had the mahogany Nexus 4 and he also shattered his. So many great memories of those videos.
This coming from a newer addition to the PocketNow viewer family, I must say, Mr. Joe Levi, you did a great job at reviewing this phone
+Josiah Delgado Thanks, Josiah! Glad to have you with us! :)
The most comprehensive Nexus 5X review!! Thank you!
Currently waiting on this phone in the mail! Can't wait! Should be here in about 2 days with my Project Fi SIM card.
Alright, Joe Levi you need to do more reviews 👍👍
Joe, with this one right here, you have put together one of the best, detailed and useful reviews on a smartphone ever made. I am looking forward to more of these. Cheers. 😊
About time Sony did a nexus
Seriously couldn't agree more
+kanishq ruhil Like, even Huawei got to do a Nexus, but Sony still doesn't. Lol.
truuueeeeeee
+kanishq ruhil No please. Ugly designs
Nexus Imprint not Android Imprint
+Asiia Phan Michael Fisher would never make that mistake.
+2fast4uspartan😂
Bad Mistake!
Omg Joe you're alive! Next you're gonna tell me Brandon Minamin is still alive
Check the recent pocket now weekly live broadcast. You'll see him.
+Séafra 2pac is alive with his golden Faust S6 Edge+
+Linus Lee too long of a video for me to click
+iMiguelAOG Yup, Brandon and I are both alive... Brandon's a new daddy, and I've been busy building a new house... more on that coming in the next several months...
***** Congratulations to him, and that's cool that you're building a new house. It was just weird to not see any videos from you guys after being used to you two being the main two I would see on this channel back in 2010 and 2011
Great review Joe! seriously one of the best I've seen on this phone good job man, you should do more.
Great review Joe...I cannot understand how Google state there is no need for ois? The video capture looks pretty shaky. Camera pics look great though.
- yep, its a stupid excuse. They cut a few corners on this one. They really should have included OIS. It would have made the Nexus 6P's camera on par with the S6
What OIS stands for?
+silver optical image stabilisation
right, I was testing u ;p
+Lee Newton Shaw Thanks!
Great to see you doing a full review again Joe!
+lkjl thank you
I agree the screen is much clearer than my previous nexus 5, blackest are much blacker
Thanks Joe Levi for the review . My god where do you guys from Pocketnow get such awsome soundtracks for your videos ?! I wach a lot your videos again only for the epic soundtracks :) . I love the soundtrack that starts at 4:11 it gives you a wierd feeling
What widget are you using for the clock and weather Joe Levi? Great review as always!
OMG Joe is back!!! wher have you been?! I miss your mighty power user tips
Great review, +Joe Levi! Thinking of getting one (only $300 for Black Friday) as a DD. Also, out of curiosity, what happened to Michael and Brandon? Glad to see you back, though (last thing I saw you review was the Droid 1 or 4, I believe)
welcome back joe missed your reviews n vids, keep em coming
You can always count on Joe for those in depth reviews. Probably due to the Doze feature and fixable with an update, but still, it's slightly worrying for me.
+Linus Lee Thanks! Still trying to track down why the CPU maxes out on wake. Other Marshmallow-powered devices don't seem to do it...
Despite using the same materials I think the Nexus 5 looked nicer.
+Aliticx It is indeed nicer, I loved the slightly arcuated ends and the width compared to the hight is so better than 5x.
As do I. I think I'll skip this year's Nexus line and maybe purchase a 32GB Nexus 5 as an "upgrade" to my 16GB one.
+Kevin Sheppard you should've gotten a 5x..
+Kevin Sheppard the 5x would be a upgrade by next year it would about 250 brand new
+Kevin Sheppard nexus 5x is 299 on amazon and ebay (no taxes) right now.
Yes Yes Yes
Joe is Back👌👌👌👌👌👌
+LAKSHAY SHARMA I've been writing articles regularly over at the website. Drop by, say hi! :)
Nice to see you again Joe, nice review, hope you keep on it
Pull down the notification center, long press the settings icon for a few second and you will unlock additional settings for Android 6.0. Battery percentage, change the quick toggles etc. Try it :)
Great Review Joe
Will you guys be doing a review of Blackberry Priv once it's out? Am looking forward to it
Good to see a fellow Utahan on Pocketnow! (assuming that google map shot was accurate)
thanks , you have help me decide on waiting for the sony z5 in america , no thanks , I `ll wait for a better one
Great review Joe.
The lagging is not with the 808 or Doze its with the encryption and backup, disable it and the phone will always be smooth
The video quality is really good but the audio quality, not so much. I recommend the Blue Snowball microphone, as it is a very nice microphone for a relatively low price.

This video is spot on narrated and great photography and explained in the words of captin2phones language.. Well done.
You kept referring to it as the Nexus 5. Maybe Google should have went with a completely new naming scheme to avoid the confusion...
The fingerprint scanner can read your finger even upside-down!!! WOW!! Industry first.
Very happy with my S6 Edge + running fully stock, even not rooted. Its running very smooth, never thought i would say this but i actually like Touchwizz more then the boring stock android. The camera is amazing and the screen, well ... no words for it.
The 5x's design is simply elegant imo. I'll be okay with a 1080p screen tho.
I miss this voice so much. Finally heard it back again.
Thanks, +Asyraf Md Rodzi !
Migrated from iPhone 5s to 5x. So far I'm happy with it.
Good video. I like the quieter talking and pace.
Too many children nowadays...
Great review :)

wheres michael fisher i slept through the whole vidieo
We need a 5.2in and smaller phone shoot out. Would love to see how HTC A9 stacks up.
Nice to see you, Joe!
Good to see you, too, +dGladiator !
welcome back Joe!
Love the audio quality ..\/,
Don't mind throwing around? The phone is expensive. it's CHEAPER than the flagships but it's not cheap.
Minor gripe, good review
I'm pretty happy I bought the Z3 Compact a year ago and decided not to wait on a Nexus. Nice review Joe 😁
great review, Joe
the limitations of the hexacore snapdragon processor?
ahum, excuse me?
WHat?
are U
talking about?
Lol best comment
+Emil Bozhilov Same thing I was thinking. It has to be a consequence of doze mode.
Jonathan Engelbart u cant see the difference past snap 800 so.
Emil Bozhilov look at a comparison between the speed of the 5x and 6p. The 805 in the nexus 6 can still hold its own however
Only Joe would believe the ambient display is better than a notification LED
great review.. I'm confused between Nexus 5x and new Samsung a5 2016.. can u suggest which one is better??
5X
The consequences of doze mode? This is one of the most anticipated features of Android Marshmallow I hope Google provides a fix soon. I've been hearing words like slow and stutter in many 5x reviews. It's hard for me to believe it is the processor. This is a phone I had high hopes for, so I hope you can do a follow up review soon before the after the buzz review.
Nice job Joe!
So many new/fake pocketnow fans... Levi is an OG.
Isn't it time to do the after the buzz for the s6, m9 and G4? *Eagerly waiting*
maybe that's why Michael said he was busy on the podcast yesterday...
Jesse McClure Yeah.. hopefully!
I want to see them as well.
Well 136g isn't that bad for most compact phone users, it'll only be a small step down from my current phone weighing in at 143g
I'd prefer the 5X display because warmer tones are better for the eyes than the green/blue ish whites on the 6P.
Eugh, so many companies these days change products for changes sake. The Nexus 5 was perfect, just the right size, slim line, screen was perfect size, they they release this fablet shit. I liked the nexus 5 so much i bought 2 of them and they are both going strong :-)
Thanks for the informative and well done review, Joe.
+Larry Berg thanks!
Great review Joe, more please, but you should review the P cause you love big phones
+Juan Valero Rosentag I didn't think I would like phablets... but I really do! It was nice getting back to a smartphone size though.
Is there still an After The Buzz in the works?
great job great phone. but here in Germany it costs 500 euros and I'm talking about the base model with 16 gigabytes. I love my Nexus 5 but is this really worth it?
Quite a few errors in calling 5X "Nexus 5" :D I know it gets confusing, but Google is to blame for that...
Dear Joe, good review, well articulated. Here is my like sir.
+mauk06 the video production was done by Jules Wang. He's absolutely amazing!
Like if you thought it was jules wang giving the review at the beginning HAHAHAH
why they changed the curved edges on the nexus 5, it was awesome, nexus 4 and 5 were the best looking.
how much storage does the OS take up? in other words when you buy the 32gb version, how much storage do you actually get?
I find that the camera section is very badly written but overall great review just wish Michael did it
awesome review keep going joe please i would see more of your reviews latter
+Mouhammad Emad Hlwani as my house gets closer to completion, I should be able to start producing more videos.
one question: is the lens (cover) for the camera plastic or some kind of harder glass?
Bad memories of the one x wich had plastic lens cover.
I was wondering if you guys would be able to make a After the Buzz on the LG G Flex 2 now that it's been updated and much better than its release?
You look like John Goodman. It adds to a fantastic review.
+OobiDoobScoobyDoobyBenubi lol!
Joe is back!
FINALLY, JOE!
Switching from a Moto X (2013 First Gen) to the Nexus 5X, will I see a large difference?
I'm a proud owner of the nexus 4, 5 and 6 one thing I hate is the booting time. it takes ages to turn on the phone lol
+Kevin Rayo It's not like you turn it on or off every 5 minutes or do you? I mean come on man, 98% of the time we just unlock our phones not turn them completely off
for a moment i thought that he was Taylor Martin lol.
Very well done review. Really made me not to buy this Nexus 5X. I still have the Nexus 5, still using it and I was thinking of buying this new Nexus 5X, but it doesn't see to convince me to get it. I rather wait and save that money for now, and maybe get the OnePlus 2.
The slowdown is Doze related. My Sony Xperia Z5 Compact shows the same behaviour when waking up from Stamina mode.
Thank you, Julian Luke. Jules Wang produced the video - he's amazing!
