  • If you’ve ever been lost, stuck or lacked inspiration as a travel photographer, even as a creative person - watch this video. "Live for the photo" is an idea I got from a great book I read recently. The concept is simple, yet profound and multifaceted.
📸 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗛𝗨𝗚𝗘 𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗶𝘀 𝗼𝗻! 𝟮 𝗢𝗳 𝗠𝘆 𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲𝘀 𝗜𝗻 𝗢𝗻𝗲 𝗣𝗮𝗰𝗸𝗮𝗴𝗲. 𝟳𝟬% 𝗢𝗙𝗙. 𝗢𝗻𝗹𝘆 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗮 𝗺𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗵.

All too often we turn to the latest, greatest gadgets with the hope that they’ll get us to that next level. Get us out of a creative rut. But, that’s generally NOT the case at all. I made this video because I believe it’ll help many of you grow as photographers, as travel photographers.
“Living for the photo” involves adapting things, making some changes in your life. How far you want to go for your passion is totally up to you. Here, I’m giving you some examples, practical steps and some food for thought.
As always - your opinions are VERY WELCOME. Tell me what you think!

I loved the video!! It made me think a lot about how can I adapt even more. Really inspiring!! Thanks a lot!!. The way I have adapted so far is by traveling in ways I can be more in touch with other people, or to end up in not so touristic place: volunteering, Couchsurfing, etc.
This might fall into a more personal area, but I'm curious to know how your family has adapted to this concept? At the moment I find it easy to travel for long periods of time because I'm single, but I struggle to imagine someone will want to come along or accept my way of "living for a photo". Any trick?

You were the first photographer who made me seriously think of planning a trip around photography so I could truly immerse myself in the experience without having to worry about lack of time or getting back to the hotel room before dark (it was the video about camping out in your vehicle instead of renting a motel room). This video is another opportunity for me to ponder. At the moment, work is so incredibly busy that I can only appreciate and stop to photograph what I see everyday; no trips or outings for me at the moment. In doing so, I've come to appreciate what I see around me as I'm stuck in traffic-the early morning light as it peeks above the clouds, creating rays or illuminating the folds of our mountain ranges, love those layers. Wish I could stop, but can't, so I imagine the composition and how the image would look in my viewfinder. One day! Thank you for another inspirational video.

Bloody great video as always Mitchell, everything you put out is just right on point and so inspirational. The points on keeping our photo skills sharp hit home for me, I'm always looking for ways to get out and take more photos and live for it. That's led me down some amazing paths recently as well as some where it came at a cost. The other week I wanted desperately to shoot a sunrise, it burned into my mind and I just had to do it. I set off at 3am and I got a beautiful stunning sunrise in an amazing location. However, I hit a wallaby on the way and did $700 damage to my little Corolla. A life lost, damage done. Worth it? I struggle a little on that one but I'm still glad I did it, I got up and got out to shoot. On a happier side, I recently won a National photography competition here in Australia by going out and getting the best shot I could think of, by seeking out a story that matched the ethos of the competition. That was very rewarding and now I'm inspired to expand on it and work on a larger photo essay around that. Keep on being amazing mate, best channel on UA-cam by a mile.

Hi, I bought a Fuji X-T30 some months ago and travel with them now in China.
I recommend you look at two reasonably- priced great quality lens that cover most aspects and both are Fujifilm XF lens: the amazing workhorse:18-55mm f2.8-4 and the longer reach 55-200mm f3.5-4.8.
Both of these together give you a 35mm eq reach of 28-300.
However, if you want an additional wider/art lens try the - manual focus only - Rokinon/Samyang (made in South Korea) 12mm f2 for low light, astrophotography, deeper landscapes (this rated lens is substantially cheaper than the Fuji equivalent).

Excellent advice Mitchell, think all people take it for granted the more you live the more experiences you have in life.
I really like your advice in your previous reading of the writer Margot but in our case focused on photography, do different things in daily life out of comfort and the most important thing was that we must emphasize more the things we see in a sharp and active way, this will allow us to become more perceptive, intuitive, more imaginative basic conditions for creativity. Take Care. All the best. Greetings for your wife and kids.

I asked my wife (shis not fotographer) what makes different good photo from just a the photo. The photo the people make. Maybe... probably this video is the answer... opportunity and ways you see the world around you. Many times it's just photo, but this one it's different from thousands the peoples make every day.

Inspirational as always. Travel is a state of mind. I live in the far north of Scotland and love to travel away from home for my landscape photography. But I’ve also realised that my home is itself a travel destination for many thousands of people. So I’ve started to view my own back yard through a travel photographer’s eye. A small camper gets me to the remote spots at times of day that suit the photography. That’s how I’m trying to live for the photo. Not easy though, trying to see the Everyday through fresh eyes. (By the way; courageous move to leave all that tech on the table with the painting activity!)

There's an old saying, two men were in jail. One saw bars the other stars. I live in a small country town and see the same things every day, but can capture different things on different days: These days I see everything through a camera lens with my eyes, walking, driving, whatever: Seeing the beauty in ugly, always being astounded by the images my Pentax K1 delivers (and the host of other cameras I have). When I venture to other places I see a photo at every turn, because have trained my mind and eyes. There is beauty everywhere, a ocean wave, a dead tree, a tumbled down old home, a rusty truck in a paddock: Photography brings solace to this old bloke in a world gone mad: Appreciate your video clips and your beautiful photos

    • @mitchellkphotos
      @mitchellkphotos  4 роки тому

That's a great saying. And - yes. Totally agree. Took me a few years to realise that. It's not even only about beauty for me. It's about what's fascinating. What tells a story. What makes you feel something. Sometimes it's sadness, but sometimes it's ok to feel sad.

  • @eclipse525

Great video and I agree about needing to create those stories or opportunities. But it got me thinking about how you seem to be living your life and chasing your dreams and although your family loves and supports you, it rather selfish. Selfish in a way of you doing what you want to scratch the itch of photography and, them just following along for the ride and perhaps never really allowing themselves to follow their dreams or even have the opportunity to figure it out because they are consumed with supporting you. I'm in no way trolling and honestly, don't know the family dynamics but can't help to think of this throughout the whole video. Don't get me wrong, a part of me is totally jealous not having that ability to just make it all about me and just do what I want when I want. I suppose it's all about how much you're willing to sacrifice. The intent of these types of videos is about inspiration but it can feel so disconnected from the real world.

Not sure I've figured it out or if it's own possible. I definitely sacrifice a lot too, because as I mention I could have been lost in all these worlds. Like, I could have been living a TOTALLY different life had I not had a family. My daughter doesn't have to sacrifice yet. She just loves everything. My wife has sacrificed the most, but she knew what she was getting into. I don't force anyone to do anything. We WERE apart for 6 months and it sucked. :(
Anyway, no easy answers there. As far as disconnected, I think there's enough there to show how everyday life and people around you can be photogenic too. But, what do you mean exactly by disconnected from the real world? I mean, this is my real world, so, I can't objectively see it like you.

Great message and video again Mitchell! I organise/make all my travels in a spirit of "live for the photo". When I come back home I have to pull the camera from my hand and I get the feeling that the story is completed. Then I start planning a next story... Thanks for sharing your ideas!
