Ironically this would have been a much happier ending for Light. He hadn't turned full psychopath yet and had only murdered people who were criminals so he would likely get out of jail eventually. His family also wouldn't have been ruined and Misa wouldn't have followed him down a dark path.

depends on the region, i believe regions more prone to earthquakes have thinner walls to prevent the houses from collapsing. having a concrete wall falling over you doesn't sound fun 😅
@@kenzotk I think it's mostly in traditional houses. In My Hero Academia most students homes we see, seem to have "normal" walls, at least they look concrete, but in Todoroki's house (which is a beautiful traditional Japanese house, which is also why he decorated his dorm room that way, also there is a funny story about that in School Briefs 3 xD) when they're at dinner, the entire house can hear their "private" conversation and that is even a point in the episode xD
To be fair, I would spend hours laughing maniacally watching filthy frank videos in my room when I was a teenager. I'm sure my whole family and neighbors could hear through the walls as well.
The thing is, when Light lost his memories he became a very sweet nice boy. So if that's how he'd been before losing his mind because of the power the death note gave him, then his family had always known him as a good kid and it's normal that they didn't suspect him. But they should've noticed later that he's gone through some major personality change. His behaviour with and without memories was so different.
Without the Death Note, Light probably would have led a good life and actually enacted positive change. He had connections in the police/government, was extremely intelligent, and had a strong desire for justice. I imagine he would've been able to put those all to good use if he'd just had more time to mature. I even think that, if he'd been in his mid 20's or more when he picked up the notebook, he wouldn't have become Kira, having grown out of the cynicism inspired by teenage angst and loneliness. Hell, if he'd just been friends with L (an equal that can squash any sort of budding superiority complex) at the beginning, I don't think he'd have become Kira either. Bless this anime for being a comedy, a tragedy, and a romance (optional) at the same time.
1. Light brought the positive change. Rates of crime in the whole world were as low as ever. It just was done by killing people secretly, which is not okay in itself. But that's much more than any person working in police could achieve. 2. L's influence is not that good. He was mostly interested in his own entertainment. And Niah with Mello grew up pretty ruthless. One became mafia, another one stopped being a detective because it's lame, I think. So... Light would be better without knowing them probably. He wasn't even obsessed with justice that much and didn't seem to aim for particular career until he realized he has the power above all.
Yeah, they definitely weren't paying attention. That said, I don't think it was the power that changed him. I think it was the fact that the death note was real and he tested it out to see if it worked. His test killed people, and good boy Light Yagami is no murderer. The only way he could justify it to himself was to double down on how executing those criminals was a good thing, then he just spiraled from there. He basically just had a mental breakdown and losing his memories of the death note removed his memories of murdering anyone, thus removing his need to justify murder to himself. After all, when he lost his memories, he found the murders of Kira abhorrent. The entire concept disgusted him. But with the knowledge that it was him, he had a contradiction in his mind and he couldn't accept himself as having done something he deems evil, this his evil acts had to be good. It was the only way his mind could accept what he did
@@АлексейКазаков-и5цnah man crime rates were higher than ever considering Kira was a worldwide mass murder lmao… not to mention he had no problem killing ppl that weren’t technically prosecuted due to insufficient evidence so a lot of those ppl could’ve just been falsely accused
Off topic, but the person i feel the most sympathy for is Light's mother. Her daughter may never recover from the trauma she went through, and lost her husband. after being alone for a long time, it turns out her son was behind every tragedy their family went through, and is now dead. Edit: I am back a year later and wow this blew up.
Never thought about it, but it must be devastating to know that the golden child you favored and loved so much grew up to be humanity's greatest serial killer and ruined your family, only to then die at a young age
I heard or read somewhere the police and Near never told them Light is Kira and that Light died during Kira's capture until the end. But yeah, still, losing a husband and a son and then daughter got traumatised. Hard.
@@slashestx I dunno, it's only an implication I think. The police and Near never told the public of Kira's death anyway. Sachiko and Sayu were never told that Light was suspected as Kira so it's likely they never told that Light is Kira too.

But I think Light had no issues on that department. If he had, he wouldnt be that popular. He is good at pretending, and can be very ordinary without the death note. When he had amnesia he was even likeable.
Holy shit, Death Note is a cautionary tale of a family that's too busy with their own daily lives, unintetionally creating a psychopath through neglect and lack of affection.
I wouldn't say through neglect or lack of affection is what turned him into a psychopath. His own God complex did the moment he was given God-like powers - the death note. (I wouldn't even say he was a psychopath, because when it comes to the supernatural and God the rules don't apply the same as they do for normal humans. Like Ryuk isn't a psychopath, he's just doing his job when he writes names in the death note. Light would be a psychopath if he was killing people without the death note.) Light is sheltered, but heavily supported by his loving and honest family. His sister deeply respects him. His mother respects him. His father respects him. His classmates and teachers respected him. Top of Japan in academics. Athletic. Good looking. Sociable. Has no criminal record. Without the death note Light Yagami would of been a high ranking police/detective Eventually surpassing even L. (As seen when his memories of being Kira were wiped and he returned to innocent Light. Who's deductive skills were on par or close to L even at the young age of 17) It was destiny though not being chosen that he would find the Death Note. He genuinely wanted the world to change. He was given the powers to and he acted on it. Everyone is evil so once he cleaned up the world either he'd be the only one left or the only one left that's evil. He would only be God of the world for as long as he lived. Everyone would live in fear of him. He also would also need to live in constant fear of being killed or discovered or the death note taken from him. He'd also need someone like him or greater to inherit the Death Note. (Which throughout time those who'd inherit would change the world in their image to where it's nothing like how Light wanted it to be because they aren't him.)
@@vexzel5550 hm, but the rules that apply to Ryuk don't apply to Light, a human, with or without the death note. He was never meant to wield that power. And, with a goal in mind, many psychopaths have never committed major crimes and instead did everything right to be well liked and eventually get high ranking careers. Let's keep in mind how many businessmen / ppl in power are psychopaths who mostly have no violent criminal record, or any at all. The way he uses everyone and so quickly develops that state of mind is not a normal thing for people without psychopathy or some other abnormality to do.
@@dinosaur___7209 yes. I stated that when it comes to the supernatural, our normal understanding of things no longer apply. Light without the Death Note showed no signs of psychopathic traits. He has morals and he most likely would of been a officer/detective like his Father. Possibly eventually surpassing L as Light was on par or close in intelligence and deductive skills to L at the young age of 17. Light + the death note, a supernatural item Allowed light to use it's abilities to the full extent of what they were capable of. Had he succeeded He would of been God of the world And the world would reflect his image Meaning he made the rules and law And by his definition He was right He was justice He was good And in his world there would be those who believe what he did was good. (And those who disagree, but would be scared to oppose him unless they had the ability to oppose him (like their own death note) and establish another new order to the world. In the world light was born in If he had psychopathic traits or even acted on them without the death note He'd be a psychopath. While the death note slowly corrupted him from "the original world he was born into" perspective Had he achieved his goals From "the world he created using the death note" everything he did was right and needed to have been done to change the world and define it how he believe was the way it should be. The death note is a supernatural tool Light with this supernatural tool was given supernatural God like abilities to influence his world From a person's perspective without the death note Light is good Kira is evil Kira is good Kira is a necessary evil From light's perspective without the death note (innocent Light) Kira is evil From light's perspective with the death note Light/Kira is God and justice. We don't know if there's a original God in death note though Heaven and Hell are mentioned so we can assume the Christian God is the God of their world From the Christian's God's perspective Light is a sinner Kira is evil for killing Kira is almost a second personality that was born due to the supernatural tool the death note (Establishing again Light only showed "psychopathic traits" 'after' coming in contact with the supernatural tool the death note.) Which is why it's almost possession when Light regains his memories of Kira. But yeah In short It's all about perspective And there's factors to consider especially when dealing with the supernatural

Honestly I always assumed he was giggling mostly during the hours when no one was home. One of the things Death Note is about is the atomization of the modern Japanese family; Light's the oldest and the only boy, so he gets his own room so he can focus on keeping his grades up, so he can go to one of the big three universities. His dad is barely home because of the extra hours that are expected of a Japanese man in a leadership position, his sister has her own shit going on because normal Japanese middle schoolers are supposed to be active in school clubs and studying on their own to get into a good high school, and his mother wants to respect his privacy because he's a good boy who's doing everything he's supposed to do and has never given her cause for worry before. If they'd been less polite and distant with one another, Light wouldn't have grown up to be such an alienated disrespectful cunt.
Honestly I do like their consideration, at the same time being polite doesn’t mean you can’t be a close family. Just goes to show how much communication and trust can really matter for a child’s development
You have a really good point. Japanese culture prioritizes school/work over family and friendships, and being considered a model student and favored by everyone from a young age made a small but present superiority complex in Light, one that just escalated after finding the Death Note

Light was so incomprehensibly lucky. -First, his father was the goddamn chief of police. Not even just a cop or a detective or even a lieutenant/sergeant. Chief of the NPA. -Second, his father stores all of his private, confidential, sensitive information on his home PC. Unencrypted, not password protected, not airgapped, sharing the same network as all the other devices at home. Seriously, that alone should have gotten Soichiro fucking demoted if not fired, Kira investigation or not. -Third, Ryuk just so happens to have an addiction to apples and is easily bribed by Light into helping his cause. An invisible, intangible, autonomous sidekick who can scout, investigate, and spy for you for the price of a few yen at a grocery store. -Fourth, not one but TWO women just fall ass-first into his life and immediately devote themselves to serving his every whim and desire without any personal input or qualms of their own. -Fifth, he's apparently so naturally intelligent that he can get into a prestigious university without needing to study or prepare at all. And win top honors with a perfect score. -Sixth, he fuckstumbles directly into Naomi Misora who is apparently both a brilliant detective motivated to solve her husband's murder at the hands of a supernatural serial killer...and also so completely stupid as to start sharing all of her information (which she knows is an insane risk) with a complete stranger in a foreign country which is HOME TO THE SERIAL KILLER YOU'RE HUNTING, WHO ALSO HAS A RABID CULT OF DEVOTED FOLLOWERS. And finally, Seventh. He can apparently monologue and shout as a teenager at home with a stay-at-home mom, a younger sister, and a goddamn police chief dad without anyone noticing anything. With that kid of luck and those kind of advantages, the fact Light fucked up so completely thoroughly is hysterical.
about the sixth one, im pretty sure that it isnt that simple, The audience may know that kira is light yagami, but it isnt so obvious in-universe, first of all, Light Yagami had worked with the police before in the past, so its not like he's just some random joe on the street. Light also has a lot of charisma so he doesnt really come off as weird, and misora wasnt feeling well either, while she would def not kill herself, Her emotions were in fact affecting her job. Light simply took advantage of her, And besides, its not like she trusted Light right away. It took Light a lot of effort to get her name.

YES, OH MY GOD
Comparing no-Note-Light and Kira-Light is so heartbreaking!

Light would be a psychopath if he was killing people without the death note.)
Light is sheltered, but heavily supported by his loving and honest family.
His sister deeply respects him.
His mother respects him.
His father respects him.
His classmates and teachers respected him.
Top of Japan in academics.
Athletic.
Good looking.
Sociable.
Has no criminal record.
Without the death note
Light Yagami would of been a high ranking police/detective
Eventually surpassing even L.
(As seen when his memories of being Kira were wiped and he returned to innocent Light. Who's deductive skills were on par or close to L even at the young age of 17)
It was destiny though not being chosen that he would find the Death Note.
Cautionary tale about the dangers of childhood idealism seeping into adulthood, and about what happens if idealistic people have too much power.
Light + the death note, a supernatural item
Allowed light to use it's abilities to the full extent of what they were capable of.
Had he succeeded
He would of been God of the world
And the world would reflect his image
Meaning he made the rules and law
And by his definition
He was right
He was justice
He was good
And in his world there would be those who believe what he did was good. (And those who disagree, but would be scared to oppose him unless they had the ability to oppose him (like their own death note) and establish another new order to the world.
In the world light was born in
If he had psychopathic traits or even acted on them without the death note
He'd be a psychopath.
While the death note slowly corrupted him from "the original world he was born into" perspective
Had he achieved his goals
From "the world he created using the death note" everything he did was right and needed to have been done to change the world and define it how he believe was the way it should be.
The death note is a supernatural tool
Light with this supernatural tool was given supernatural God like abilities to influence his world
From a person's perspective without the death note
Light is good
Kira is evil
Kira is good
Kira is a necessary evil
From light's perspective without the death note (innocent Light)
Kira is evil
From light's perspective with the death note
Light/Kira is God and justice.
We don't know if there's a original God in death note though Heaven and Hell are mentioned so we can assume the Christian God is the God of their world
From the Christian's God's perspective
Light is a sinner
Kira is evil for killing
Kira is almost a second personality that was born due to the supernatural tool the death note
(Establishing again Light only showed "psychopathic traits" 'after' coming in contact with the supernatural tool the death note.)
Which is why it's almost possession when Light regains his memories of Kira.
But yeah
In short
It's all about perspective
And there's factors to consider especially when dealing with the supernatural

Such a good appreciation, really nice

Light fucked up because of his massive ego and arrogance.
I feel like if he spreaded the killings out more (lets say throughout the day, months, etc) and never got involved with the police and whatnot, he wouldn't have even been suspected..

I like how the dad hears Light laughing and instead of assuming he saw a funny video or some shit he just ends up arresting him as Kira
To be fair, most interactions we see between Light and his parents are about classes, exams, and the investigations. Maybe the story goes that way to put an emphasis on the lack of communication there was in his family to begin with.
0:12 his laugh was hilarious 🤣🤣🤣
I shit myself at this😂
"I had a dream that no one could see" 💀💀💀💀💀
my personally headcanon is that he was just always like this so they're used to it by now
I’m actively choking this is the funniest thing I’ve ever seen 😂😂😂
Idk why it's so funny to me how his voice is muffled in the beginning lol
They probably thought that he was just raging while playing videogames.
Even then Light would have figured out a way.
Houses in Japan are basically made of cardboard and wet paper towels, so theyd definitely hear him monologuing all the time.
"I had a dream no one could see"
ALAS! EVERYONE SAW IT 💀
Imagine during his New World rants and his neighbours start making noise complaints 💀😭
I love that you left that little bit of the end credits. The great story of Light...
Even in this situation, since he has the shinigami and the others don't necessarily know about that, he might be able to get himself into the situation where he's working side-by-side with L to catch the "new kira"
