Don’t only get that book. Absorb every bit of information from bill herzog you can. The guys a bad ass and he’s still out there getting it done and teaching people today.
Absolutely. 🎣
Thanks for the props, man!!!!!!! Great vid.
Thank you! You’ve teachings have accounted for many of my steelhead encounters. 👍🏻🎣
Excellent! I need to make more slinky's, I've gotten kind of lazy about it, ditto with the sliding sinker setup, I used to use it alot, except in very fast water. Love the Rocket Red, in cookies and in yarn. Pink Pearl, overall, is my #1 corkie. I think I'll dig out my slinky making gear, since the roads are a sheet of ice today anyways. Color Guide to Steelhead Drift Fishing, I call that "The Bible". Fantastic series, Barry! I've been showing your channel to my steelheading friends, and to those that wish to learn to catch one. Tight lines!
Thank you William! Yes, the pink pearl is a good one, especially if fishing in better conditions. The dime bright steelhead featured on the thumbnail fell to a size 12 pink pearl! And thanks for sharing, I appreciate it!
Great job on the series so far Barry.
Thanks Justin! 1 more to go! 😊
I don’t drift fish a ton anymore, but it’s still my favorite way to catch a steelhead!
It’s definitely more of a challenge, therefore more satisfying. I’m hoping to do some more twilight fishing this year. It’s a hoot fighting a steelhead when you can barely see. 😁
It's basically a modified Carolina rig. Thanks for the simple technique. The easier the rig the more time I'll spend on the river.
That’s a good way to put it! Steelhead anglers can learn a lot from bassers.
Ever try braid with a mono bumper to your leader for drift fishing?
I have not, I like using Maxima for main line.
@@RAGEFISHING Tried it with my drift rod and it gets down quicker and is more sensitive feeling the bottom.. use about a 10’ bumper, swivel w slinky or stick wt, then leader.
@@joemcfadden7875 thanks Joe! I do know it would be more sensitive since braid has zero stretch. I appreciate the info and will consider it in the future. 👍🏻
Would you use the sliding weighting system with bobber dogging as well?
I wouldn’t, my fear is the weight would get hung up and you wouldn’t know about it immediately. Since bobber dogging is a sight technique, it’s unnecessary. I like the sliding weight for drift fishing to better detect bites since it’s all about feel. 🎣
Thank you
@@tonyrutherford1848 no problem!
Thank you for all the tips and content. Will you being videos on reading steelhead water?
You’re welcome! I’ve had that request, so I’m going to focus on that this coming season. It’s hard to explain without real-time examples, so I’ll start saving some clips during my fishing days to compile for a video.
Thanks for video,
Do you peg the corky or bead above the hook?
No, the corky is free sliding right to hook. Since the corky is buoyant, it should pull up to the hook. The mechanics of drift fishing is very different from float fishing a bead which needs to be pegged.
@@RAGEFISHING ok, thanks,
Your videos are very helpful, thanks again for sharing your knowledge
You’re welcome!
I caught my first steelhead on a corky at age 10.
That’s awesome!
What shot do you use for your slinkys
Oregon Tackle lead shot, usually the .25 diameter so it goes in the .300-.330 parachute cord easily.
I have a full video on slinkie making on my to do list. I covered it very quickly in this video.
