The first time i heard about Sidney Poitier was in a motivational talk by Les Brown around 2009. In the talk, Les makes a quote, 'When you walk with another man, two things happen. You either adjust to their pace or they adjust to yours." This was a direct quote from Poitier's book - The Measure of a Man. He was a rare breed in a world bereft of men of character.
Thank you for giving Mr. Poitier and lesser-known black achievers the respect and acknowledgement they deserve.
He was such a great actor the lilies of the fields to sir with love they call me mr Tibs
I bought his book 5years ago called A measure of a man. Now I am really sad he is gone because I was thinking about starting a podcast and his book was one I wanted to discuss. Mr. Poitier will be missed by me and my team. RIP Sidney Poitier.

Then to have Peter Graves being the one to narrate his bio is on another level. One legend paying homage to another.
Greatness comes out of nothing, you can come from a humble poor background and achieve the greatest although the journey may be rough at times. That’s the lesson I learned here from this man.

Can't recall seeing anything on mainstream news about this great man's passing, one of my alltime favourites, but fitting that he will be remembered on this channel...Rest in peace...
Oh yeah it was on main stream news it was all over the news when he passed. That is how I learned of his death
How dare anyone judge the tightrope walker that he’s not keeping his balance properly. The proof is in his stability, the staying on, ignoring cries for his demise from all sides, and finishing the journey with his back straight and his head high. Mr. Poitier walked that rope better than anyone ever did or could. It was his calling. He did it well. We are all the better for it, not just in entertainment, but as human beings.
I love how his parents look. Beautiful black people with deep roots.
They were attractive people and his mom exceptionally so .

I finished The Edge of the City, starring Poitier and John Casavettes and what a brilliant film.
As a kid , I admire that beautiful man thank you for existing my time .

Agreed that's why we shouldn't be so hard to judge people harshly because we don't know how they was brought up or how they was raised growing up or upbringing.

He came from a humble poor background in a turbulent times of racial disparities in America. His Humility was there for all to see. He was so concerned of how he portrayed his race on screen tells you a lot about this man that he’s was not a selfish person.

Mr. Poitier, my favorite actor, taught me to respect the depth of filmmaking. His eloquence, in every way, illustrated how I want to be; I will never reach that summit, but his memory will remind me of his all encompassing stance. WHY was A Patch Of Blue glossed over and The Slender Thread not mentioned?????? God bless you in Heaven, Kind Sir.

When he first started out he married a beautiful queen and had beautiful children that look like them but for some reason as they get successful the landscape of their relationship begins to look different
I know..... 😞 It would have been nice to have his first Queen behind him the entire time.
It's so sad that people equate success with personal preferences that have nothing to do with success! It means absolutely nothing to anybody except those on the outside who take the energy to criticize, not having spent one moment to inquire what brought two people's hearts together. A man of his intelligence, success, and legacy deserves SO much more credit than to simply equate it to "he picked a white girl bcuz he's successful now..."

@@ayndowney9401 absolutely! I've had relationships with women of many races/ cultures from Black to White to Asian to Latina to Nepali. The woman I'm with now is the most inspiring, intelligent, loving, supportive, creative, fun, adventurous, hard-working, reciprocal person I've ever had the honor of being in a romantic relationship with. We just returned from my first trip to Europe to visit her family and our unity has grown stronger through the challenges and hard work we did over there. Her family has embraced me and my family has embraced her. I will propose to her later this year, but the point is that love and companionship don't care what it looks like. We find endless love, beauty, support, and inspiration in each other! 💘❤💖🥰
I enjoyed this documentary of Sidney Poitier. My admiration has no boundaries due to the way Sidney Poitier played is roles in all his performance with moral, ethics and dignity.

I first saw Sidney Poitier in To Sir with Love. He was so handsome and so good in the role. Loved him from he point. I grew up in Western Victoria Australia and had never heard of trouble with the coloured. All people were humans. That was it. I didnt see any difference
I saw To Sir with Love in the movie theater in America with my older sister when I was a kid and we loved that movie .
I'm sold glad he did all that for himself. And for all blacks
