Awesome vid Kapono! Another easy way to tell the difference between a spinning and conventional rod is the eye size. Usually conventional rods have the same size eyes most of the way, and spinning rods will have a much bigger eye towards the bottom to allow your line to spin around a spinning reel.

I don't know Oahu spots very well past the Meetup videos. Squid is always a solid bait though.

Heck yea get back into it! They have great rods for their price. For like 20 you can walk out of there with a solid fishing rod. I like the black beauty series of rods. Danny likes the shimano ones with the cork handles. If you want to spend a little more you can grab an ugly stick that will last you practically for ever.
