It's a loooooong video, but I wanted to share as many of these awesome entries as possible! Did you have any favorites? Got any ideas for more panels that still need to be made?
PLA sweating wouldn't actually be an issue for an irregation system like that, seedlings are usually grown in egg cartons or little newspaper cups because when the water can exist evenly everywhere, you have a very nice distribution of moisture in the soil! so actually PLA is ideal for a seedling nursery :))
You spelled obsessed wrong. No need to thank me, I know I'm a hero. I hope you spent the year since you wrote that comment bettering yourself and fixing your ways.
It's silly but this video made me a little emotional around 8:40 - especially seeing that phone case by Renee Taylor. I'm new to the 3D printing community so I'm just now getting to see these things but it's so absolutely awesome that we make and share designs for people to use just for the love of it. I can't tell you how many things around my house were designed by people all over the world that spent that time tinkering back and forth in their bedrooms because they needed that ONE THING. Then they shared it. For me because I ALSO needed that ONE THING. It's just fantastic. The humanity of it is quite moving. It's hard to put into words but I'm sure you get what I'm trying to say. I had someone make one of my designs for the first time and comment that it worked - for the first time ever yesterday. A lip balm cap for a very uniquely shaped lip balm. I spent probably 3 hours and 4 versions to get the dimensions right. My first time using 3D modeling so it was NOT easy. and yesterday, that someone needed that thing and made it because of the time I spent. That's such a great feeling. I'm honestly still smiling thinking that my effort is jingling around someone's pocket or purse somewhere in the world. I must admit, when I bought my 3D printer, it was a rather selfish idea. To be able to create *whatever* I wanted *whenever* I wanted instead of debating with my wallet at the store. What I did not see coming was the positivity that this hobby has brought into my life. The community. The creativity. Seeing the world in a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT WAY. "How can I improve this?" "Is there better way?" - It's like I'm seeing the world in 3D for the first time, honestly. (pun was not intended hahaha) You guys all rock. Thank you for the inspiration.
I love how big of an influence this channel has on not only UA-cam, but the rest of the internet and engineering community. You really bring everyone together for the better, it really is amazing.
Thanks so much for adding so much to the 3D printing/design community, Devin! The turnout for your competition was unbelievable and I had fun participating! Can't wait to get printing all these cool submissions...
This is by far one of the most creative MyMiniFactory design challenges. People really went all out and got very creative. I like and agree with the winners. Then again every entrant is a winner because PolyPanels are now a living and growing thing. Also I was very surprised that Devon covered so many of the entries. There were A LOT of them. I got the sense he was gassed there towards the end so don't feel bad if he didn't every your's in detail. I mean there were so many!!! Well done and congrats to one of the best Design Challenges I've seen. It was also well administered with very deserving winners selected.
Thank you! Yes, admittedly I was losing my voice by the end and also realized how long the video would be so I did skim over several of the final entries. I hope everyone knows that I appreciate every single entry :)
Even though the quality would be terrible and the joints would probably bend due to the stress from the motors, someone should design a Polypanel 3D printer to print more Polypanels!!
This competition allowed a system that is very virsitile and potentially very useful. I hope this continues to expand and grow for another year to where someof these models can be remixed and refined as people use them to make things.
Matthew Cockfield-Hall THEY SEEMED SO FUN! I don’t have a 3D printer myself but if I ever do or get a chance to get my hands on one I’d definitely print those and create some aesthetic tactile wall just to see what I can make of it (but also as an excuse to create a mini funland that I can play with... as an adult... who is only printing it in the name of uh... science? 🙃 yeah, science)
Ta St RIGHT?! But that also defeats the easily affordable purpose by marketing it as a purchasable product, but I also want to get my hands on some but don’t have a 3D printer myself... Can the website that he hosted this on have some sort of affordable market place where common folk could purchase 3D prints of those from other 3D printer folk? Does that sorta thing already exist? Polypanels just look like so much fun man.
Congratulations to all the winners! This competition is so inspiring! It's great to see so many cool ideas and be part of the competition! Hope you guys will like the prizes! =)
Can you please review more printers because I’m thinking of getting one for my birthday and it’s been a long time since you’ve done a review and the ones that you can done are quite outdated Thanks ❤️
I will do some reviews soon, but honestly the printers I liked a year or two ago are still some of my favorites! Just check my current ranking at makeanything.design/favorites :)
I think you could use this system with a loose fit, if you smooth the edges as a more solid exterior(so it feels ok on skin), the half sized ones to fit close to your skin, and print it out of a flexible filament. I would also like to see an officially recognized poly panel list of: who made it(people who made similar stuff, with the date there file was made), what it is used for. So that people don’t end up creating the same panels over and over. It would also allow people to create a kit list of what is needed to create something.
I missed the competition, & only just got to watch the video series, but I am totally inspired! I'm going to combine some custom polypanel designs with other to integrate some electronics & make, um - I don't know what yet., :-D
I thought the competition was to create different types of polypanel panels for new way to use them but it was competition to create models using the polypanels. My bad... and I hoped at least one price printer would be given to a person who doesn't own a 3D printer.
Yeah I too was hoping he’d give a prize to someone who didn’t yet have a 3D printer so that they could print the polypanels they designed but oh well, the winners were well deserved of the recognition
I don't know about the speaker thing, because of the gaps, resonance would be nonexistant, and the speaker playing might cause the pastic parts to rattle and add unwanted noise.
@@BradfordNeedham Wait wait, explain a little, i didn't understood that, it's a poly panel, made of fabric, that comes with a coil and a magnet inside and some contacts so that yo ucan connect it to a source, and have that panel work as a speaker?
Is there any type of simulator toy I could get in a toy store my friend loves these but I dont have a 3d printer and the only place ik of with one would charge me an arm and a leg to print this
What is the real version of these called? I found a bunch of these in a thrift store maybe about eight years ago, but I have no idea what they're called, they're actually injection molded so, I know it's not one of the 3D printed ones.
I got an awesome idea for another competition...… Using polypanels make something for arm/arm and shoulder/ arm and shoulder and side of chest...….. create something with these panels like a media entertaining system. for example phone on chest with speakers on shoulder and maybe some lights on arm...…….. you know doing something off in left field that is really cool... You know, you are complaining about that you cant win a 3d printing competition if you dont have a 3d printer... thats just stupid. Is like complaining about that you cant win a cooking competition without food.
I had a winning idea that I couldn't implement, so if anyone wants to give it a go: **Compliant Mechanism Panels** (2 panels with a compliant switch between them, etc.)
It's a loooooong video, but I wanted to share as many of these awesome entries as possible! Did you have any favorites? Got any ideas for more panels that still need to be made?
We need a VR headset googly eyes polypanel.
Hey Devin. Is it okay if i set the part where you talked about the polypanel i designed on my Instagram?
the poly panel drip system was my favorite.
You should make a second video of all of the comment ideas in the first video.
