  • Last July, a bulk carrier spilled 1000 tonnes of oil into Mauritian waters. More than 6 months later, what effect has it had on the island? Disasters like this get international attention for a few weeks then often get forgotten by the media. In 2020, we followed three youth activists as they fought the oil spill, and you’ve asked us for updates.
    So, in this video BBC Reporter Ashley Ogonda explains: how did it happen, what’s happened to the ship and the cleanup, how much do we know about the impact on the environment and how it can be stopped from happening again? We spoke to Happy Khambule from Greenpeace Africa and caught up with youth climate activists from Fridays for Future Mauritius.

    As our government of mauritius had received a huge amount of money i hope he gave these volunteers some bucks and thanks them also because if we depend on government worker this place could take nearly 2 years to clean it and make it like before
