I remember those days when Jupple Phillip George of Sierra Leone (SLBS) and Wilmot Stubblefield of Liberia (ELBC) entertained us when we did our laundry on Saturdays. It was 1976. It is long gone. That sounds amazing! It is fantastic having so much available on the internet, but there was something quite personal about the radio back in the day. What were the popular local or regional musicians at that time? I am guessing the radio shows you listened to mixed it up with local stuff.
Someone please correct me, but I think this Jimmy Cliff’s rendition of ‘No Woman No Cry’ hit the charts and made its mark globally in the mid 1970’s before Bob Marley reclaimed his work, being the original writer of the song, and made an even bigger hit with it in mid 1970’s. Fact is Jimmy Cliff was a legend way before Bob Marley made his mark. Bob later stole the limelight from Jimmy Cliff though it can be argued either way who is the greater.
@@twilotso458the first to release the song is Bob Marley fact, Jimmy cliff comes just after, Bob it's already a bob Marley song, credit on the friend names Vincent Ford, that's why we don't really know if Bob Marley wrote it or if it was this friend called Vincent Ford, but Jimmy cliff have nothing to do with ;)

Jimmy Cliff's voice is what attracted me to reggae; but his version can never take the place Bob Marley's greatest hit.
totally agree! Like I said, his version is sweet but does not capture the turbulence and the sadness that Bob was singing about in this song!
