William, I'm just wondering how you was sent to Vietnam? I'm 67 and served in the Army. I was 17 when I enlisted and nobody was being sent to Vietnam. I went to Frankfurt, Germany after basic and AIT. I'm thinking you was involved in some political capacity?
I think I'll borrow that quote, design that a 3D plaque in Fusion 360 and then print it out on my 3D printer, things I learned how to use because I didn't waste all my time complaining, criticizing, condemning or playing the victim.
Also, Congress should stop enacting legislation that boost Corporations instead of the people. For example, in every state, if you own a HOME, you can get tax credits for solar panel INSTALLATION... as though Americans can't install panels themselves.. but lawmakers aka Congress have sided with Corporations/ small business saying that you can't install panels on your own home rooftop without buying a PERMIT and then you gotta get a LOAN for some business to install a solar panel that you can easily do yourself. This is what happens when Congress and Corporations get together to rip off Americans.. cos we all know, solar panels are relatively cheap these days cos other countries are already on the GREEN NEW DEAL and America is not.. cos why? Corporate greed. Anyhoots.. that is what's happening in Congress and that's why it's just better to lay your solar panels on the ground or vehicle if you have room.. no outrageous permits ..

My love of math and problem solving is what led me to become an engineer. It is an awesome to get that feeling of satisfaction that you have when your mind has contributed to the betterment of life. I am an 82 year old woman who managed to do this along with becoming a wife and mother. Get off your backsides and do it!,
I (20yo) enjoy math as well but there's literally no one my age who likes math the way I like it. At first it made me want to be the mentor that I never had, but now it just makes me depressed.

I chose electrical engineering to study because it involved wonderful opportunities to exercise mathematics. Seek out a field that resonates with your interests and do not be depressed. Take a risk.

It’s possible. I started a mfg business at 60!! Now 73 and along the way i learned how to do electrical wiring and design equipment i needed. I have more tools than wrinkles. And I’ve just been offered 1/2 a million for my business. That’s the beauty of America! If you have the drive and perseverance and some luck you can do well! But you have to work at it and refuse to give up. There is a huge difference between the average employee and the entrepreneur. One risks nothing. The other risks everything.

Surely none of us made more poor choices as young adults. I’m more interested in his current trajectory. The beautiful thing about forums like UA-cam is that you get rewarded for creating value. And btw, those rewards don’t come easily at all. If you don’t believe me, just give it a try. The problem is 99% of folks out there are only interested in punching the clock and surviving the week until Friday. They could actually care less about creating value. Not Will. Boy, are you going to catch it for this! I agree with you 100% - I don't think I've ever done that before to anyone. My father was an engineer and I was an engineer (and did mathematics too). I'm proud of the work that I did. I'm in my seventies now in retired. Thank God my daughter is a go-getter and started her own company and builds goods and products for people. Right on, keep up the good work.

I am Canadian and Canada is in the same boat! Big producer of steel, aluminium etc. we export everything to be transformed outside the country. We are not creating, we are loosing knowledge to other country. Until young people realize that education is the key, we will be locked in this game.

Without more young people like you this country is in big trouble. Please take this video and get it out to as many young people and media as you can. Kudos for this "rant". America's biggest problem is constantly acting like everyone else (whether outside the country or inside it) is to blame for any thing or situation they don't like. That's a very weak, "powerless" mentality. Nobody owes you a thing and you aren't entitled to a life any better than what you can make happen for yourself. Furthermore, we ALL do better when we help each other out, which isn't happening much any more, and definitely not as long as people keep blaming their neighbor for all their faults. This is an aside, but I honestly think part of the problem is that we've been letting community organizations die. We're losing the mentality of "we're all in this together, and I've got a duty to try and make my community a better place". People think their only obligation is maybe throw a few dollars at a GoFund me and their responsibility is fulfilled, they can now go binge on Netflix or play video games. When I was growing up, donating your time for community projects was the norm and people were proud to do it and proud of what they built. Whenever I see vandalism in a park now, I can't help but think it's because the people who did it never learned what it takes to make public resources available in the first place. They've got no stake in anything.
I've only watched a couple of this young man's videos and already feel he is "special". Not only does he have facts but he knows how to process them, explain them, and attach them to one another. In today's society, and from my experience, very rare. I look forward to hearing more from him.
My grandfather immigrated to the USA and was a beekeeper. When I was a kid he told me that people are like bees. There are valley bees and mountain bees. The valley bees have lots of flowers around, and you can get honey from them twice per year consistently. Mountain bees have to struggle to survive, and you can't get any honey from them, as they barely eek out a living. But if you bring the mountain bees to the valley, you can extract honey 4 times per year, because they work so hard. But after a few years, they turn into valley bees, and you can only get honey twice per year. I have have lots of opportunity in the USA, and I don't work as hard as my grandfather... my kids are totally lazy..
Learning how to learn is a skillset; fueled by desire and dedication and knowing when to bridge your knowledge gaps through asking questions of those who have the knowledge you don't.
Learning how to learn starts at home. Parenting your kids is imperative. If 2 parents are working, makes it a bit harder. Not impossible. I’m a sole parent, everything supplied by me. My daughter graduated hs in May, top of her class, full tuition ride. Yet living expenses, books, etc, are higher than tuition. My child beat the pigeon-hole odds because she was actively parented every day. At times I juggled up to 6 jobs at once. As I age, this has taken numerous tolls on my body physically, which is costly to address. She is worth it. Yet I’m an outlier; I greatly valued education, and believe education starts at home. Formal education, public or private, merely supports and enhances what she was taught by me, her only parent. Parenting is a privilege, as is growing older (and hopefully wiser). While I agree with much he said in the video, turning a blind eye to the ripple effect of social and political issues is foolish, and exactly why he’s taking a moment to rant. Bagging on a UBI is short-sighted, and shows how little is understood about the many positive ripple effects of such. It decreases neighborhood crime, domestic violence, addiction issues, reduces unwanted pregnancies, raises hs graduation rates, increases college admissions, and much more. It provides parents a bit more time to actively, effectively parent. Many don’t know Nixon tried to pass the Family Assistance Program in the late 60s. For the entire 70s, variations of the same would be pushed through Congress, failing. Conservatives and liberals doomed it for different reasons, of course. Not very different than today’s budget rhetoric. We The People lose. Not the politicians. Social issues and politics touch literally everything in life. They matter greatly,, unfortunately. So while I agree with much he said, he also clearly shows his willful ignorance and utter lack of foresight about social and political issues he chooses to remain ignorant about. Ironic, given he states the need to further one’s education. Perhaps he should heed his own advice.
W. P. I can not agree more 🚀. Americans once were the leaders of innovation, thought, expression, freedom, and possessed an innate drive to succeed even after many failed attempts. Much as our move from an agrarian to industrial society I believe we are moving back to a balanced society. The remnant is small (10%?) however it is there and it’s mighty! As a great grandpa I look for it in my children and the younger minds I’ve been blessed to mentor in my chosen field of I/E&C. Attitude, family, community, and patriotism based on a compass of morality heavily spiced with character will rule the day IMHO. As you’ve observed many who possess this attitude are immigrates. As the greatest generation and boomers pass on it’ll be up to folks as your self and others to reignite the torch and run forwards. I pray it’s in an environment of competition and not from the ravages of a conquered, war torn nation. To me it’s only political in the sense that the battle is between the ideology of a one world system VS. a group of strong individual nation states; a minority of elites VS. a majority of individuals; capitalism VS. socialism. Start small, start local, get educated and fight back against programmed ‘group think’ and sow seeds of critical thinking based on facts, not feelings.

I am 60 years old and my mom took me out of high school due to segregation back then. I have learned everything on my own and have run many businesses doing all my own learning. I agree with everything you stated. In my 40s I gained a lot of weight and I hated it I was up to 250 got into eating junk, So after doing more reading I found the keto way of eating and lost over 65 pounds that was 3 years ago and I have kept it all off............ By myself I learned website design and made hundreds of websites for people. Learned wood working making signs I sold for some time with a number 1 website in the US I had made........ I learned to be a photographer over 20 years ago and we still today run a photography business I make my living with, l learned how to play the bass guitar and played making a living when I was younger, I started a video production business in the 90s and produced local tv shows and made commercials, I created photography software I sold to photographers all over the world back then as well. And on and on. I did all this myself because I wanted to learn and make my own way in life. When I was 13, 14 and 15 I was cutting grass for money and then started washing cars as I wanted to make my own money and I did. I have never worked for anyone but myself for any long time as I always started my own things. .........People are getting fat we see it in our job. We Shoot family portraits now for over 20 years. Back when we started almost everyone was thin and healthy kids were never fat at all. Now we see kids at 3 to 4 times their weight that are addicted to sugar and many are sick. Many teens are overweight and glued to their cell phone and have zero energy now. The adults are larger then ever so much so we can not use the same poses we used yeas ago as they can not get in them as they are to big now. We see people getting out of breath now just walking around for the photo session and some now using walkers dut to being over weight its nuts. We have seen this happen first hard with years and years of photos we have taken. I am thiner and more healthy now at 60 then I was at 50.

It’s just that we need to also acknowledge the fact that the system is not playing fair and not allowing the capitalist middle class to flourish as well as it could. We need more people who are responsible and able to take risks and build new companies, but the country is increasingly becoming more and more hostile to small and mid sized business. We had a whole year of covid lockdown that did nothing but harm Main Street for the benefit of the mega corporations. I can remember when Japan was the target of the same sort of rhetoric and while people were talking about "Japanese junk", Toyota quietly clawed it's way to being the largest auto manufacturer in the world. Then it was that "Korean junk" and we got Kia, Hyundai, Samsung, etc. This time around, while Americans are whining about "Chinese junk", companies like CATL, BYD, Haier... you get my point. I've seen the methodology Toyota used to eliminate rust on their vehicles.. They used experimental design and critical thinking tools to correct deficiencies, create new models with fewer design flaws in a shorter time. Their whole thought process was based on total cost to society.. Our auto industry didn't want to accept the methods except for Ford.. the others had to adapt.. It's not much different in most US companies and yes it is partly due to short term profit motives. The rest is more NIH (Not Invented Here) and ego at the management level.
We send billions to the CCP(Chinese communist party), and they destroy our infrastructure. We never sent anything to Toyota except for sales. The USA imports items for little to nothing, yet when we sell goods other counties tariff vast amounts. We need some sort of equivalent exchange. Trump was the only president that helped America grow and tax others.

Too often, quality of design and quality of manufacture are sacrificed on the altar of short term profits.. That is why US manufacturing suffered. People would rather pay for cheap foreign made junk than pay higher price for US made junk. No matter where it's made if design quality is high and manufactured quality is high people will pay for the quality. We have a distorted profit generation model problem. The most money seems to be made by those who produce nothing but "paper" that trades on potential profit .. ie wall street speculation, derivatives etc.

Holy crap! I did not expect this. I'm an old fart and I am massively impressed with this rant. I hope people are not so overly sensitive that they just get offended and immediately block it out, but instead use this as motivation. I'm sure that "hitting the gym" can be very generally interpretated as working out in any way you see fit / you feel like / you are able to.... Due to personal circumstances I can only afford to do running for about an hour and along the way / upon arrival doing max pull-ups (or chin-ups) and max push ups every other day. THE in-between days I TRY TO do 20' - 30' of abb exercises. DEFINITELY NOT able to make all those "appointments" though. ☹️ If you have the luxury of swimming multiple times a week that's awesome. If you prefer a few hours of cycling in stead, that's also awesome. If you prefer sparring or heavy bag workouts that's also great. Long hikes (combined with camping?) is also great. Oh yeah, the gym is also great.... 😁 If you can pick and choose from any of those mentioned above (or more) you should have some variation. Just burn a ton of calories while improving your health and body structure and empty your head and get your eyes off all those screens is what Vin R meant. And yes, I also like mansplaining.... 😜🖕😂😂😂
Don't go to the gym. Help your neighbors. Get exercise cleaning up your community. Once we had a big snowfall. The young people dug out just enough to get their cars out to go to the gym to get exercise. Meanwhile their elderly neighbors spent a week shoveling so they could get out and buy food.
Will, I agree with your statements of a lazy generation. I'm 64 16 years ago I was paralyzed due to a virus. I was happy with my life and up in till that day. Five years later in a wheelchair I went back to school and was able to receive my degree in social work. I did this so I could better understand why people that are or become disabled cannot get over their disability and need to look at life a different angle. With your videos I have installed solar in my tool shed, the panels I used a bucket with concrete and a pole with hardware from Renogy. I did this project with out help and from a wheelchair. Currently i'm working on a solar generator for the house. This project is due to the freeze we had here in San Antonio this past February 2021. Yes some people are lazy and blame others instead of themselves. Great videos, and yes library's are great to spend time in.

@@johnsullivan8673 I think of it as a problem with Formal and Tacit knowledge - that formal knowledge is oversubscribed and tacit knowledge is not as legible to our society so people don't realize that is where the technology and a lot of other value comes from. One reason why house prices are high - not the only - but one reason is that people are less capable of using their hands.
@@johnsullivan8673 Of course everyone has their own opinion. But I believe manufacturing plays a huge part in being self sufficient. Not depending on another country for a large portion of products. EXAMPLE... If more semi conductors were produced here in the US, the auto industry would not be hurting for chips to produce cars. We have shortages because too much of our goods come from China, shipping containers are stuck here in the US and now China has a shortage of containers to send more goods. And it goes on and on. So, in my opinion making goods here in the US not only puts more jobs here in the US but lessons our dependance on CHINA, or Taiwan or even Japan, etc.
How is American manufacturing supposed to compete with near slave labor in communist and third world countries? You think corporations and politicians are ever going to do anything to stop the flow of money? "We need to get back to manufacturing." I was constantly amazed at how people didn't want to learn and wanted you to remain dumb with them, so they wouldn't feel shame because they were too lazy to open a book once in a while.
To the non-readers the internet is just nutshots, puppies and people falling down. But it's all right there at your fingertips. I fixed my washing machine using the internet. Cost me the price of a part whereas the "technician" said I need an entirely new shaft - cost $500 plus labor. Turns out it was just a plastic piece that cost $50. Of course, the "technician" charged me $49 for the "service call".

I am Australian - living off grid in Mexico with a system I set up researching and learning myself - a large part of that knowledge coming through your videos 🙏 - I am a teacher - and rave about you to many - your knowledge and skill to be able to teach and share your knowledge clearly is brilliant...and at such a young age! Having just watched this video, you have just shot up even higher in my esteem! What insight for such a young man and I love that you say it like it is! To those not from the USA, everything you say is what we see - I agree whole-heartedly with your monologue (apart from the military comment - USA needs to be at war with others as the economy runs largely on this - though that is another conversation). As someone from the Asia/Pacific region we use Chinese and Asian products as a norm. It isn't seen as a negative at all - Asia is all over technology and have been the first innovators and adapters for decades. I saw this first hand the many years I lived in Asia before hitting Latin America. Australia also doesn't manufacture technology too much. As a small population the supply/demand just doesn't add up in any case and we certainly don't fear Chinese products. Building my house last year here in Mex, I ordered window frames from China as they are better quality, better fit my passive cooling design and way cheaper...and I also have a POWRMR hybrid inverter which raised many eyebrows....no complaints thus far...let's see how it goes....still learning about Solar (came here today to check out some more vids)....and so much more! Holy cow…..you said it!! 30 years in Emergency services and the last ten years we’ve had to modify our ambulances so we can load heavier patients. People don’t realize how many codes we have stopped working on because the patient weighs 400, 500, 600 or more pounds and we cannot move them fast enough or in many cases cannot get them out the door.

Two fire crews with EMS on scene for two hours! Patient was bleeding out of the fat rolls because they were on blood thinners! Of course it was city low income housing!!
I've been retired for 10 years, I spent 30 years with one of the top 3 pharmaceutical companies engineering department. The number 1 question I always heard, " How do I...". They did not want to read or acquire the technical data needed. Sometimes they just wanted to make their problem my problem. It was ironic, everyone wanted my job until they got it.

Am 51 now and worked for multinational companies for decades now - I don't know if it is only me but I came to conclude that management level people (and more and more of the new technical staff too) is unable to comprehend written text. If you don't have big colorful graphs and shapes pumping a conclusion into their heads they are just unable to process written material. They kept telling me "if it does not fit within one page I will not read it". And I kept thinking of NASA material I have seen from the times of the Apollo program and thought "did the total IQ level drop that drastically so people could read and comprehend 150 pages of reports way back then and now they complain if they have to hit page down?" Somehow these things stem from the same bad root, we allowed the bar to be lowered way too much, for ourselves too.
Also, China isn't the problem. Their government is. I think that's what Americans are complaining about, especially with so many American corporations selling out to them constantly.
@@johncunningham8213 It's not as simple as corps selling out. Decades ago as well as today, we as a country decided to buy the cheapest product that did the job. We purchased Chinese clothing, tools, solar panels, and nearly everything else. So, everyday we have been making the decision to buy elsewhere. Now much of that capable no longer exists in the US. Will is correct about people getting fat and lazy. Sad to say, but the best students at universities are not from the US.

Now, those others can't easily bring the manufacturing back for several reasons. Skills deficit. Potential price inflation. If industry is repatriated, either "normal" wages are paid, and the price of those items increases (inflation) or costs (wages) have to be sufficiently low to keep inflation down. (Difficult) One other option. Consume less (that has to happen anyway).

Wow...a most excellent rant/pep talk!. I worked for 40 years in technology with a successful career and retired early at 59. I am now 62 and have gotten too fat, out of shape, and have some health issues. I have also allowed myself to get a bit lazy...your rant has helped inspire me to get off my ass, get up earlier, walk more, play more music, spend more time out in the woods, eat less, and disconnect a bit more from news and social media. I’d guesstimate that evolution, which cultural evolution is a part of, is 99% cooperation and 1% competition. Competition, the biggest example of which is war and conflict, gets all the headlines and visibility. Cooperation goes on steadily with little accolades. Even in the business world it’s mostly cooperation but nobody looks at it. It’s taken for granted. Our bodies are hosts of billions of microorganisms. Cooperation and completion go hand in hand. Also, Congress should stop enacting legislation that boost Corporations instead of the people. For example, in every state, if you own a HOME, you can get tax credits for solar panel INSTALLATION... as though Americans can't install panels themselves.. but lawmakers aka Congress have sided with Corporations/ small business saying that you can't install panels on your own home rooftop without buying a PERMIT and then you gotta get a LOAN for some business to install a solar panel that you can easily do yourself. This is what happens when Congress and Corporations get together to rip off Americans.. cos we all know, solar panels are relatively cheap these days cos other countries are already on the GREEN NEW DEAL and America is not.. cos why? Corporate greed. Anyhoots.. that is what's happening in Congress and that's why it's just better to lay your solar panels on the ground or vehicle if you have room.. no outrageous permits ..

My love of math and problem solving is what led me to become an engineer. It is an awesome to get that feeling of satisfaction that you have when your mind has contributed to the betterment of life. I chose electrical engineering to study because it involved wonderful opportunities to exercise mathematics. Seek out a field that resonates with your interests and do not be depressed. Take a risk.

It’s possible. I started a mfg business at 60!! Now 73 and along the way i learned how to do electrical wiring and design equipment i needed. I have more tools than wrinkles. And I’ve just been offered 1/2 a million for my business. That’s the beauty of America! If you have the drive and perseverance and some luck you can do well! But you have to work at it and refuse to give up. There is a huge difference between the average employee and the entrepreneur. One risks nothing. The other risks everything.

Kudos for this "rant". America's biggest problem is constantly acting like everyone else (whether outside the country or inside it) is to blame for any thing or situation they don't like. That's a very weak, "powerless" mentality. Nobody owes you a thing and you aren't entitled to a life any better than what you can make happen for yourself. Furthermore, we ALL do better when we help each other out, which isn't happening much any more, and definitely not as long as people keep blaming their neighbor for all their faults.
This is an aside, but I honestly think part of the problem is that we've been letting community organizations die. We're losing the mentality of "we're all in this together, and I've got a duty to try and make my community a better place". People think their only obligation is maybe throw a few dollars at a GoFund me and their responsibility is fulfilled, they can now go binge on Netflix or play video games. When I was growing up, donating your time for community projects was the norm and people were proud to do it and proud of what they built. Whenever I see vandalism in a park now, I can't help but think it's because the people who did it never learned what it takes to make public resources available in the first place. They've got no stake in anything.
I've only watched a couple of this young man's videos and already feel he is "special". Not only does he have facts but he knows how to process them, explain them, and attach them to one another. In today's society, and from my experience, very rare. I look forward to hearing more from him.

My grandfather immigrated to the USA and was a beekeeper. When I was a kid he told me that people are like bees. There are valley bees and mountain bees. The valley bees have lots of flowers around, and you can get honey from them twice per year consistently. Mountain bees have to struggle to survive, and you can't get any honey from them, as they barely eek out a living. But if you bring the mountain bees to the valley, you can extract honey 4 times per year, because they work so hard. But after a few years, they turn into valley bees, and you can only get honey twice per year. I have have lots of opportunity in the USA, and I don't work as hard as my grandfather... my kids are totally lazy..

Learning how to learn is a skillset; fueled by desire and dedication and knowing when to bridge your knowledge gaps through asking questions of those who have the knowledge you don't.
Learning how to learn starts at home. Parenting your kids is imperative. If 2 parents are working, makes it a bit harder. Not impossible. I’m a sole parent, everything supplied by me. My daughter graduated hs in May, top of her class, full tuition ride. Yet living expenses, books, etc, are higher than tuition. My child beat the pigeon-hole odds because she was actively parented every day. At times I juggled up to 6 jobs at once. As I age, this has taken numerous tolls on my body physically, which is costly to address. She is worth it. Yet I’m an outlier; I greatly valued education, and believe education starts at home. Formal education, public or private, merely supports and enhances what she was taught by me, her only parent. Parenting is a privilege, as is growing older (and hopefully wiser). While I agree with much he said in the video, turning a blind eye to the ripple effect of social and political issues is foolish, and exactly why he’s taking a moment to rant. Bagging on a UBI is short-sighted, and shows how little is understood about the many positive ripple effects of such. It provides parents a bit more time to actively, effectively parent. Many don’t know Nixon tried to pass the Family Assistance Program in the late 60s. For the entire 70s, variations of the same would be pushed through Congress, failing. Conservatives and liberals doomed it for different reasons, of course. Not very different than today’s budget rhetoric. We The People lose. Not the politicians. Social issues and politics touch literally everything in life. They matter greatly,, unfortunately. So while I agree with much he said, he also clearly shows his willful ignorance and utter lack of foresight about social and political issues he chooses to remain ignorant about. Ironic, given he states the need to further one’s education. Perhaps he should heed his own advice.

Much as our move from an agrarian to industrial society I believe we are moving back to a balanced society. The remnant is small (10%?) however it is there and it’s mighty! As a great grandpa I look for it in my children and the younger minds I’ve been blessed to mentor in my chosen field of I/E&C. Attitude, family, community, and patriotism based on a compass of morality heavily spiced with character will rule the day IMHO. As you’ve observed many who possess this attitude are immigrates. As the greatest generation and boomers pass on it’ll be up to folks as your self and others to reignite the torch and run forwards. I pray it’s in an environment of competition and not from the ravages of a conquered, war torn nation. To me it’s only political in the sense that the battle is between the ideology of a one world system VS. a group of strong individual nation states; a minority of elites VS. a majority of individuals; capitalism VS. socialism. Start small, start local, get educated and fight back against programmed ‘group think’ and sow seeds of critical thinking based on facts, not feelings.

I am 60 years old and my mom took me out of high school due to segregation back then. I have learned everything on my own and have run many businesses doing all my own learning. I agree with everything you stated. In my 40s I gained a lot of weight and I hated it I was up to 250 got into eating junk, So after doing more reading I found the keto way of eating and lost over 65 pounds that was 3 years ago and I have kept it all off............ By myself I learned website design and made hundreds of websites for people. Learned wood working making signs I sold for some time with a number 1 website in the US I had made........ I learned to be a photographer over 20 years ago and we still today run a photography business I make my living with, l learned how to play the bass guitar and played making a living when I was younger, I started a video production business in the 90s and produced local tv shows and made commercials, I created photography software I sold to photographers all over the world back then as well. And on and on. I did all this myself because I wanted to learn and make my own way in life. When I was 13, 14 and 15 I was cutting grass for money and then started washing cars as I wanted to make my own money and I did. I have never worked for anyone but myself for any long time as I always started my own things. .........People are getting fat we see it in our job. We Shoot family portraits now for over 20 years. Back when we started almost everyone was thin and healthy kids were never fat at all. Now we see kids at 3 to 4 times their weight that are addicted to sugar and many are sick. Many teens are overweight and glued to their cell phone and have zero energy now. The adults are larger then ever so much so we can not use the same poses we used yeas ago as they can not get in them as they are to big now. We see people getting out of breath now just walking around for the photo session and some now using walkers dut to being over weight its nuts. We have seen this happen first hard with years and years of photos we have taken. I am thiner and more healthy now at 60 then I was at 50.

Then it was that "Korean junk" and we got Kia, Hyundai, Samsung, etc. This time around, while Americans are whining about "Chinese junk", companies like CATL, BYD, Haier... you get my point. I've seen the methodology Toyota used to eliminate rust on their vehicles.. They used experimental design and critical thinking tools to correct deficiencies, create new models with fewer design flaws in a shorter time. Their whole thought process was based on total cost to society.. Our auto industry didn't want to accept the methods except for Ford.. the others had to adapt.. It's not much different in most US companies and yes it is partly due to short term profit motives. The rest is more NIH (Not Invented Here) and ego at the management level.
We send billions to the CCP(Chinese communist party), and they destroy our infrastructure. We never sent anything to Toyota except for sales. The USA imports items for little to nothing, yet when we sell goods other counties tariff vast amounts. We need some sort of equivalent exchange. I'm sure that "hitting the gym" can be very generally interpretated as working out in any way you see fit / you feel like / you are able to.... Due to personal circumstances I can only afford to do running for about an hour and along the way / upon arrival doing max pull-ups (or chin-ups) and max push ups every other day. THE in-between days I TRY TO do 20' - 30' of abb exercises. DEFINITELY NOT able to make all those "appointments" though. ☹️ If you have the luxury of swimming multiple times a week that's awesome. If you prefer a few hours of cycling in stead, that's also awesome. If you prefer sparring or heavy bag workouts that's also great. Long hikes (combined with camping?) is also great. Oh yeah, the gym is also great.... 😁 If you can pick and choose from any of those mentioned above (or more) you should have some variation. Just burn a ton of calories while improving your health and body structure and empty your head and get your eyes off all those screens is what Vin R meant. And yes, I also like mansplaining.... 😜🖕😂😂😂
Don't go to the gym. Help your neighbors. Get exercise cleaning up your community. Once we had a big snowfall. The young people dug out just enough to get their cars out to go to the gym to get exercise. Meanwhile their elderly neighbors spent a week shoveling so they could get out and buy food.
Will, I agree with your statements of a lazy generation. I'm 64 16 years ago I was paralyzed due to a virus. I was happy with my life and up in till that day. Five years later in a wheelchair I went back to school and was able to receive my degree in social work. I did this so I could better understand why people that are or become disabled cannot get over their disability and need to look at life a different angle. With your videos I have installed solar in my tool shed, the panels I used a bucket with concrete and a pole with hardware from Renogy. I did this project with out help and from a wheelchair. Currently i'm working on a solar generator for the house. This project is due to the freeze we had here in San Antonio this past February 2021. Yes some people are lazy and blame others instead of themselves. Great videos, and yes library's are great to spend time in.

EXAMPLE... If more semi conductors were produced here in the US, the auto industry would not be hurting for chips to produce cars. We have shortages because too much of our goods come from China, shipping containers are stuck here in the US and now China has a shortage of containers to send more goods. And it goes on and on. So, in my opinion making goods here in the US not only puts more jobs here in the US but lessons our dependance on CHINA, or Taiwan or even Japan, etc.

I am Australian - living off grid in Mexico with a system I set up researching and learning myself - a large part of that knowledge coming through your videos 🙏 - I am a teacher - and rave about you to many - your knowledge and skill to be able to teach and share your knowledge clearly is brilliant...and at such a young age! Having just watched this video, you have just shot up even higher in my esteem! What insight for such a young man and I love that you say it like it is! To those not from the USA, everything you say is what we see - I agree whole-heartedly with your monologue (apart from the military comment - USA needs to be at war with others as the economy runs largely on this - though that is another conversation). As someone from the Asia/Pacific region we use Chinese and Asian products as a norm. It isn't seen as a negative at all - Asia is all over technology and have been the first innovators and adapters for decades. I saw this first hand the many years I lived in Asia before hitting Latin America. Australia also doesn't manufacture technology too much. As a small population the supply/demand just doesn't add up in any case and we certainly don't fear Chinese products. Building my house last year here in Mex, I ordered window frames from China as they are better quality, better fit my passive cooling design and way cheaper...and I also have a POWRMR hybrid inverter which raised many eyebrows....no complaints thus far...let's see how it goes....still learning about Solar (came here today to check out some more vids)....and so much more! Holy cow…..you said it!! 30 years in Emergency services and the last ten years we’ve had to modify our ambulances so we can load heavier patients. People don’t realize how many codes we have stopped working on because the patient weighs 400, 500, 600 or more pounds and we cannot move them fast enough or in many cases cannot get them out the door.
Yep, and you reminded me I should have listed "paramedic, Advanced Life Support, air-sea search and rescue, fireman/first responder/triage, (hospital) lab tech/X-ray tech/E.R. tech (charge)...in my "resume" ... elsewhere listed under this vid.

Two fire crews with EMS on scene for two hours! Patient was bleeding out of the fat rolls because they were on blood thinners! Of course it was city low income housing!!

I've been retired for 10 years, I spent 30 years with one of the top 3 pharmaceutical companies engineering department. The number 1 question I always heard, " How do I...". They did not want to read or acquire the technical data needed. Sometimes they just wanted to make their problem my problem. It was ironic, everyone wanted my job until they got it.
Yup.. I'm 44 and I wish I had the internet and had all this information when I was younger.. Just BBS dialup stuff :D There is really no excuse to not learn in todays world.

Am 51 now and worked for multinational companies for decades now - I don't know if it is only me but I came to conclude that management level people (and more and more of the new technical staff too) is unable to comprehend written text. If you don't have big colorful graphs and shapes pumping a conclusion into their heads they are just unable to process written material. They kept telling me "if it does not fit within one page I will not read it". And I kept thinking of NASA material I have seen from the times of the Apollo program and thought "did the total IQ level drop that drastically so people could read and comprehend 150 pages of reports way back then and now they complain if they have to hit page down?"
Somehow these things stem from the same bad root, we allowed the bar to be lowered way too much, for ourselves too.

Also, China isn't the problem. Their government is. I think that's what Americans are complaining about, especially with so many American corporations selling out to them constantly.
@@johncunningham8213 It's not as simple as corps selling out. Decades ago as well as today, we as a country decided to buy the cheapest product that did the job. We purchased Chinese clothing, tools, solar panels, and nearly everything else. So, everyday we have been making the decision to buy elsewhere. Now much of that capable no longer exists in the US. Will is correct about people getting fat and lazy. Sad to say, but the best students at universities are not from the US.

Yes, but see, we as Americans have it so good, we don't know what real struggle is. In the general sense, anyway. We have been the leading First World country for decades. And yes, corps send their factories overseas and Americans blindly buy them because it's cheap. I'm guilty of buying Chinese products that I don't need. I've been working on that. I was mainly talking about Nike, Disney, and the NBA. I think (well, hope) that more American textile companies will start sprouting up in the US, but I we'll see.

You're TOLD their government is the problem.
But,
THEIR government sets a 5 year (10 year?) plan and follows it.
None of the obstructionist BS and procrastination which stops things getting done "elsewhere".
Also, their governments, over decades, have been smart enough to drag a country from abject poverty to making a huge proportion of goods used by others.
Now, those others can't easily bring the manufacturing back for several reasons.
Skills deficit.
Potential price inflation.
If industry is repatriated, either "normal" wages are paid, and the price of those items increases (inflation) or costs (wages) have to be sufficiently low to keep inflation down. (Difficult)
One other option. Consume less (that has to happen anyway).

Wow...a most excellent rant/pep talk!. I worked for 40 years in technology with a successful career and retired early at 59. I am now 62 and have gotten too fat, out of shape, and have some health issues. I have also allowed myself to get a bit lazy...your rant has helped inspire me to get off my ass, get up earlier, walk more, play more music, spend more time out in the woods, eat less, and disconnect a bit more from news and social media. Thank you for your videos

They basically have one billion slaves that do what they are told to do. I really fear what would happen if the balance of power shifted to China. They have no moral compass! I have dealt with them and it's all about money. The people, the planet and everything else means nothing to the government.

I’d guesstimate that evolution, which cultural evolution is a part of, is 99% cooperation and 1% competition. Competition, the biggest example of which is war and conflict, gets all the headlines and visibility. Cooperation goes on steadily with little accolades. Even in the business world it’s mostly cooperation but nobody looks at it. It’s taken for granted. Our bodies are hosts of billions of microorganisms. Cooperation and completion go hand in hand. My two cents worth and pet theory. July 5th is Interdependence Day lol.
