Realize I am getting this out late but here goes -- A big thank you to whomever created this video. You can tell time & care was taken to put this video together. Like someone said a long time ago in this thread, usually I am not a fan when extras & extended versions are added, but I take a few exceptions & this song is one of them. The song gets me every time & this extended version brings it on home even more so. Wherever Gladys Knight is I am sure she'd approve. Love the historical photos of all the band members. Thanks again. 😎
I agree. I used to make slide shows like this, and the timing, as tedious as it is, is everything. The pictures are timeless snapshots of a time long gone, and they're in good condition. The extension of the music was done seemlessly while allowing the viewer to take in the full depth of the lyric. Definitely a 👍 from me on a job well done.
There are certain songs that should never be touched or altered; this is one of them. HOWEVER, what you did with this is nothing short of amazing. You took one of my favorite Gladys songs and made it magical. Kudos to you......
I played this constantly on repeat, with my late dad begging me to stop. He would promise to buy me another record. I still listen to it multiple times.
yes this is a public comment yes I'll have to say I saw Gladys Knight at the Hard Rock Cafe in Hollywood Florida she was stunning the audience said she was wonderful and so do the Hard Rock Cafe and I do to thank you so much Gladys Knight I hope to see you again in the future and where your concert you were fantastic
A very serious, and powerful song presented here from Gladys Knight & The Pips. A time when substance, and soulful emotions touched you deeply. This beautiful song will ressurect old memories from a time, that has passed many of us, completely.
Total Package: Gladys Knight. She had charisma, love, passion, class, sweetness, beauty, joy, and the best black female voice. She did not need to take off her clothes and I would be proud to take her home to my Italian mother. Class Act.
Incredible song, impeccable remix. This was one of the first songs that served as a lightning bolt for me, a lighted path toward the greatness of black music. I am eternally grateful!
+Kevin Cartwright Kevin, I'm 58 and was lucky enough to grow up with parents who appreciated good music and passed it along to me..I also believe the contribution made by Black artists is unparalleled in the history of American popular music..I guess I'm getting old because I don't see artists putting out really great music anymore..
~ HONOUR LOVE & RESPECT TO our black female living legends: Gladys Knight, and the author of this song, Gloria Jones ~ Thank you for extending the joy that is this classic R&b gem. Cheers, DAVEDJ ~
It happens sometimes. For example a Duet Album that Marvin Gaye and Diana Ross did in the 1970's was a flop in the US but it was successful in the UK. You can hear James Jamerson on Bass, Ivory Joe Hunter on Piano.
Happy Birthday Wishes to the Gladys Knight-The greatest female vocalist to ever cross the threshold of Hitsville USA- God Bless Gladys-Motown-Detroit-A lifetime of incredible music and beautiful memories. xxx
I think this was one of her best song, along with Neither One Of Us & Best Thing That Ever Happened To Me. My top 3 favorites from such a beautiful and amazing powerhouse.
Ohhhh, the power of this Masterpiece ! Gladys was gorgeous, her brothers were handsome, & they were magnificent together. I saw them 4 times---'67---'69---77---'84. & it wasn't nearly enough. -----------------WolfSky9, 71 y/o
The Detroit Symphony Orchestra, The Funk Brothers and Gladys Knight and The Pips made this one of the finest productions that ever came out of Motown. Thanks again, John, for your masterful work.
I played this on the jukebox around midnite over the weekend at one of my favorite taverns. By then the jukebox was turned up LOUD! I enjoyed watching the people in the bar as this song played..many people especially my age late 50s were really jammin to it..Only wish I had been able to play your great long version..Thanks!
+BullCricket75 I'd add Nina Simone, Etta James, and Billie Holiday to your list for my listening enjoyment. And, although she had not yet sung a lot of "soul" songs, Whitney had the chops for it!
+Darice Davis Nina, Etta, Billie were a different soul. I'd put Nina and Roberta together, Etta a bit more bluesy...but love them ALL. Billie? In a class ALL BY HER SELF! ijs
Yeah, a lot of people say this is Babbit, and performance is pretty tame for Jamerson, but it has enough of his idiosyncrasies to identify it as his - and while Babbit's tone was *similar* to Jamerson's (played a P as well) but this bass track has that distinct, warm thump that can only come from those giant, dead labella flats he played.
This is one of the greatest records of all time, and the last hit for Gladys Knight & The Pips on Motown before they left for Buddah Records. More hits came afterwards.
Co-written by Gloria Jones, who put out the original/exceptional, uptempo version of "Tainted Love" She was also Marc Bolan's wife and, the unfortunate person to be driving the car when they crashed into a tree and, Marc was killed...
Gladys Knight really put on a fantastic sho mother's Day 2017 in Detroit Michigan , I'm Glad I had the opportunity to she her sing some of her most amazing songs...
Beautiful job on this classic..you do Gladys a fine tribute here...and the PIPS never sounded better...those harmonies...ahhhhhh...another classic mix...keep them coming...all the best...joey/nyc
This is my favorite song by Gladys Knight and the Pips!!!!! If you were my woman, if I were your woman, here's what I'd do!!!!! Woohoo!!!!! If I Were Your Woman!!!!!
Had the privilege of seeing her four times. The second concert she sang this at an outside concert in Cincinnati and I cried like a baby. This is my favorite song all all artists combined. She sang it the last two times, but some what butchered with a guy singing first and her leaving off the last verse. Still, I love it!
from fall 1970. thanks for those pictures of them. how young they were.one of the best groups that got away from Motown. had more hits after they left Motown for Buddah.
Cool cool cool - this is liquid nitrogen in a sound track. How you do this is beyond me but you are so in sympathy with every nuance of the original track it defies belief. Multi Bravissimo.
What a voice , one of the greatest ever !!! One of the few songs that gives me goosebumps !!! How i wish you were my woman !!! Oh Gladys , the Goddess !!!!
I love this song and what an awesome job you did with your remix lol! It ust doesn't get no better than Gladys, I think she was much underated for her great talents! Thank You again for digging up beautiful memories of a great female talent!
This was made in what 1970? I listened and loved hearing her voice then, it's now June 2021 and I still have the same feelings now listening to this track as I did in 1970 and I will never stop loving this woman xx
I remember being about 3 or 4 and my Mom would play all these masterpieces of sound,i vividly remember that Motown Soul label and this song,it mesmerized my little mind. There'll never be a better music period than the 50s-90s.
A simple thank you wasn't enough. You did an awesome job here. Many memories and much thanks to you for sharing your talent and love of Great music from 'My Time'.
Dionne Warwick will always be my favorite vocalist of all time, male or female. However, this performance by Gladys Knight is above and beyond. This and Janis Joplin's "Piece of my heart" are at the top of the greatest vocal performance recordings of all time. If the power, soul and emotion of these two can't bring you to tears you have no pulse. Also check out "Battle hymn of the republic" by Judy Garland. Don't ignore that one, I promise you'll be missing something epic.
