Since the world of crypto, NFT’s and the metaverse suddenly became a hot-button issue last year, rappers have sought to hop onto the wave in every conceivable way.
From becoming avid collectors (bored apes) to producing their own lines, the lucrative world of NFT’s has plenty of rapper’s looking to get a piece of the pie. And while some have been lauded for using this new platform to sell genuinely interesting digital items (MF Doom NFTs), there are others who’ve been accused of flagrantly scamming their fans.

I'm STILL confused as to what an NFT is even after watching. Can somebody please explain it the long and simplified way for me?
It's a glorified JPEG file that's supposed to appreciate over time so you can sell it for more value. But honestly it's just the equivalent of a con artist selling fake art to customers

there's a fantastic documentary called Line Goes Up that goes in depth about all the issues with crypto and nft's. it's on youtube and i'd highly recommend giving it a watch
It's a visible smart contract. Smart contracts are written on a crypto block chain. You can program the contract to do anything. It can be a picture, it can give you a part of record sales, you can get ownership of stocks. I've been investing in then for about two years. It can be lucrative if you do your homework.
The fact that rappers would rather drop NFT scams instead of classic albums, is worrying.

Most NFT's are quite simply a ponzie scheme. You don't even get a copyright for the thing connected to the NFT. The value is in what some other person is willing to pay for it, anyone selling you an NFT is selling you wolf tickets.

I know someone whose basically been homeless, after being committed by her mother and ex husband,for a year and has been crashing with friends or at the shelter. She says she has "business partners" she's working with to develop NFTs and once everything is in place shes going to have hundreds and hundreds of thousands of dollars.

You forgot to mention Drake has an NFT Collection too. Nas is also selling Royalties of a couple of his new songs as NFTs, meaning fans can make money by supporting their favorite artists. Not a huge amount or anything but the technology is getting there, which I think is good and should be supported.
The Nas royalty NFT is a f’in joke. How can 500 people each get 7% of the royalties? That math doesn’t work. It says each gold investor will get 7%, each diamond investor will get 21%. Does he think his fans are THAT dumb? Clearly they are gullible, but also that bad at math?

i'm still so mad at snoop for taking down all those classic albums just to sell them as nft's. Some of the songs he took down are so obscure that there are literally no youtube uploads so that was the only way to listen to them. He's probably gonna forget about those songs anyway because they're so obscure, or he'll think no one will buy them, essentially making those songs "lost".
The part they forget about NFTs is that if someone compromises the original hosting server, that person can literally wipe everyone's NFT and capture the original block chain and hijack it themselves. Happend to a couple of NFT project groups

I can't see the value of NFT's. Later on even if you got it from a famous person doesn't guarantee that it's safe to buy. Though safety to profit isn't what's going to happen making it safe to trade at all would be a good start.

you can release albums for $10 as an NFT...its the same as buying an album on apple music. completely voiding paying DSPs and anyone else trying to eat off your art.
oddfuture can easily make the nft cost less than a ticket to their festival and make all holders get tickets for free in the future. if they mint 10000 at the same cost as a ticket but the holder gets unlimited access to shows related to that album. thats $1m directly into the pocket of the artist and the fans get to enjoy free concerts and exclusive content. its a win win all around.
you cant just copy an NFT and assume you own it, you wont have any ID on the blockchain proving you own it. it will take me 2sec to look it up. you can copy them like you can copy anything in this world but as soon as you go to sell it there will be no record it even was minted making the value 0 LIKE ALL BOOTLEGGED STUFF.
its okay not to understand this technology fully but don't speak on it unless you actually know what you're talking about. the UFC is releasing an nft that allows holders access to exclusive seats for fights at a good price. if youre a UFC fan, that holds value and will do extremely well.
