For many years, the journalistic skill set seemed set in stone. When it came to making a living in the media, there were rules and standards that you were expected to abide by, but none more so than a commitment to “objectivity.” In essence, this meant that there was an expectation that you’d report stories without comment, opinion, or allegiance to any one side. But somewhere in the internet age, this value system went out the window. In hip-hop, this meant that those who reported on the genre were often appearing in the headlines in their own right. And more often than not, it comes in the form of beef.
From his humble beginnings on UA-cam in 2012, Jamaican-born DJ Akademiks-- lesser-known as Livingston Allen, quickly established a formula for success.
By making hip-hop news into digestible videos, he tapped into a generation that wanted the story in the most efficient way possible. Along the way, Akademiks realized that the sensationalized tales of rappers’ personal lives and feuds were a recipe for success.
Initially, Akademiks’ voice was all that was known as the man that’d one day become known as satirical rapper Lil Ak. But from the moment that his identity and appearance entered the public domain, he quickly became a target for those that he’d previously reported on from the shadows.

Ak is learnt the definition of a kid who gets bullied so turns into a bully when he gets a platform. He never learned emotional maturity and lives his life with the motivations of a 13yo. I think as a culture we really need to re assess what "winning a beef" looks like, and should find people with values.

It was a lame criticism, while Ak did make fun of the stupidity in Chiraque it was only true that most of those guys where being stupid killing each other over sneak disses and blocks of dilapidated buildings and score keeping of murders for raps. Ak never killed anyone and did not condone that sort of behavior. So yeah he gets to make fun of the dumbasses in Chicago for that stupidity.
This is why rappers should not beef with media personalities/influencers. Personalities care about engagement positive or negative the fact you acknowledge Akademiks and what he said. Then make a statement that shows he clearly got you mad. means you lost already

Akademiks is one of the people in hip-hop who is not an artist who definitely isn’t helping hip-hop. It’s bad enough when you have artist like Lil pump and Tekashi69, people who really don’t respect hip-hop and who don’t have any talent and who don’t care about the history or the art of hip-hop and who just want to use it to get money, not saying that they shouldn’t be in it to get paid but back in the day you actually had to be good at it. These dudes just do it for shock value but what makes it worse is when the Teletubby is out here endorsing them and then on top of that as someone who isn’t a tough guy but loves drama, just like a chick doesn’t mind fanning the flames as long as he benefits from it. And then some of the cases people have lost their lives for this drama queen. Hip-hop has gone pop a long time ago but even with it going part it could still survive but when it gets diluted this much and you have cancers like him that can’t wait to exploit the negatives for his own personal gain it’s not a good thing. If you notice whether someone is an artist like Lil pump or Tekashi69 or the Teletubby who gets off on stirring up drama the one thing they all have in common is you can tell these are dudes that I’ve never been in a real fist fight one on one before in their life. All three of them represent their generation when it comes to the Internet tough guy. They didn’t grow up with social skills being able to look at another man in the eye and settle a dispute that way and it shows.

I think the main difference from now and when The Source was the primary hip hop media is Akademiks in on video and not just a writer. Ak may be a weak kinda guy, but hip hop has to learn the lesson that being the toughest guy does not equal being the winning guy. And also, hip hop fans want more than softball interviews with supposed tough guys. Ak represents a lot of hip hop fans that purchase content. Respect the fan base.
