I think the likes of Verstappen, Charles, Lewis, Lando, and maybe even Piastri have ruined our judgement of rookies, he’s only in his first season, which isn’t even over, all rookies need time to grow, at least two years if you ask me.

Agreed. Not all rookies are generational talents . Some need more time to develop. Button and Rosberg are good examples of that

Totally. We've been spoilt when it comes to outstanding rookies in the last 20 years, more specifically after Lewis & Seb, for the last 8-9 years, sometimes with a few top newbies together. They used to come in different years, sometimes with big gaps between them. I don't think that new F1 fans truly appreciate how lucky we are!
He's doing fine for a rookie in a tricky car. Yes, it's better than over the past few years, but even Alex says it's not an easy car to drive. Compare Logan to Schumacher's second year (given the dire Haas in his rookie year, we can't even consider him in that one and be fair!), and I think he's doing better than him. He's bringing the car home more often than not, he's had a few good scraps... I think he deserves at least 2 years before anyone starts the rumour mill.

Ur right and wrong at the same time. Verstappen Charles Lando etc are good examples of what top talent should be like in the junior series. What the F1 fanbase does wrong is hyping every junior driver that breathes, Mick Schmuacher, Theo Pourchaire, Felipe Drugovich. Mick Schmuacher can't lace Leclerc Lando or even Piastri's boots. What the fanbase needs to understand is that theres a place for the future world champions, & also a place for the midfield pack, the new Hulkenberg, Grosjean, Kamui, Perez etc. Not every bloody F2 champion is a future world champion

There just in a nothing to talk about part of the season:
After the last race he was safe but now 3 weeks later he’s in jeopardy cus there’s nothing else to talk about.
      There rebuilding Williams
That’s not gonna be dumping drivers after 1 season in F1 especially cus he’s not destroying equipment.
Learning takes time Albon has years and years of experience and many ups and downs.

Your correct that our perception has been ruined but i have to disagree. It’s just not possible or fair in todays driver market to give rookies 2 years to adapt. There’s only 20 seats and so much talent coming though the junior series, if drivers can’t kick on straight away then I’m afraid the chance has to go to someone else. It’s brutal / cut throat I know, but unfortunately that’s the game

Have we really gotten to the point where we don’t give rookies time to grow and mature into F1? More importantly, what were we expecting-for Logan to hop in and immediately outperform Alex? Logan was rushed into F1, he’s mostly kept the car in one piece and he’s had races where he’s shown good potential (Silverstone, Bahrain and Austria for instance). He should be given a second chance with the clear expectation that he has to take a step up in performance next year. That’s what happened with Yuki and I think it’s fair to say the trust AT placed in him paid off.

Its also very silly because Williams' big problems are their old facilities and lack of experienced engineers. They'd get a lot more speed from fixing these 2 problems than switching drivers. Not even Aryton Senna can change the fact that the car is still a straight line machine with low downforce.
But somehow all these armchair team principals think Logan should be replaced already.

Real. Give him a second season to really get his head around how the car wants to be driven and I think we’ll see a strong battle between him and Alex. Logan’s issue are very clearly that he just doesn’t know how the car wants to be driven in varying conditions and set ups. He doesn’t have a strong feel for the underlying tendencies and habits of the car. Once he has that I think we’ll see his pace jump forward at LEAST 5 tenths

He nearly beat Piastri as teammates at Prema in F3, nearly didn't have a drive and took the tractor that was the Charouz F3 car to multiple podiums before being picked up by Williams Young Driver Program. He was brought in a year earlier than planned by Williams themselves, they knew what they were getting into when they promoted him ahead of their own plans for him. They are also taking their time to prepare him because they know he is not ready yet.
Hell, he is from the Williams academy, promoted because he's the only one who has gotten enough points to do so. And he was promoted amidst the Alpine silly season, where the core of the entire silly season was Alpine refusing to put their own junior driver into the team. Williams promoting him is a subtle move to tell people that the Williams academy is a viable route to F1. It would be very stupid to drop him so quick.
And a better second driver isn't going to fix Williams' bigger problems, sure if they had 2 Albons they'd have more points, but the car still remains a straight line machine with low downforce. What Williams need in the short term isn't better drivers, but rather upgrading their facilities and hiring more experienced engineers to better develop the car. Williams would get more gains if they could develop their car more effectively than they would from changing drivers. Remember, Williams' plans are long term, even James Vowles said he would need 5 years or so to get the team back into fighting form. In the time they take to rebuild the team into proper fighting form, Logan would most probably have already matured as a driver into what they need from him.

It's disgusting to be honest, I understand looking for drama, but wanting Logan to get kicked out because he isn't Albon is just such a stupid idea. You can't compare Piastri and Logan, not only did Logan not win the F2 championship like Piastri so from the start we knew he wasn't as fast, but also they are on the opposite sides of the grid, one is fighting for the wins and the other is fighting to get out of Q2.

Why is the only thing these UA-camrs can talk about Logan’s seat? He is THE ONLY true rookie on the grid, there is no reasonable benchmark for him. He was pulled out of F2 at LEAST one full season early, and he’s adapted well. He has openly acknowledged his short comings and knows what he must do to improve more than he already has. You can’t pull someone out of their rookie F2 season and reasonably expect them to perform, if they do, they’re the exception. Performing right out the gates is NOT normal. Tsunoda was the last rookie given a fair and proper shot as a rookie. Logan needs time. And frankly it’s not like Williams are in a position where getting a second super strong driver is a necessity. They still need to figure out how to develop their car and fix their facilities. Developing a driver from their academy and keeping Albon on board is their safest best across the board. Logan has showed glimpses of amazing speed and talent, but trying to say that’s not normal in a talented rookie is ridiculous. Of course we only have glimpses so far. He’s still adapting to the insane sensitivity jump of F2 to F1. The cars are COMPLETELY different driving experiences. All these content creators and big names trying to say Logan’s seat for next year should be in question have completely forgotten that true rookies need at least two seasons to show marked and considerable progress that shows in the timing chart. They need to chill tf out with the pressure and actually use their brains more than their instincts.

Sargeant is doing okay for a rookie - Better than Mick did. Better than Sir Lancelot did. Let us not forget that Haas were all ready to keep Massive Spin until the conflict in Ukraine precluded that. It's only the Red Bull machine that spits drivers out before they've had a chance to prove themselves. Jean-Eric Vergne. Pierre Gasly. Albon.

I don't really expect him to score points immediately, but at the very least him being close to his teammate could silence some of the critics he has. But come next year he has to start finishing ahead of Albon and scoring points not necessarily to secure his seat but to at least have a justification for him being in F1 in others' eyes. No question Williams got his back, but for his sake he needs to start showing stronger performances next year.

I don’t think Logan will start to show improvement on the time chart until the second half of next season. He’s shown he has the raw speed in his junior career, but he’s so green he needs that time to SHOW his speed due to the jump in complexity with the car. Even this year I don’t think it’s reasonable to expect him to significantly close the gap to Albon. He’s the first true rookie since Tsunoda took the grid, and we’re seeing how long it took Tsunoda to properly get a groove. THREE seasons. Logan deserves at least two given how early he was promoted, but I still think it’s reasonable to give him three years to show his speed.

The youth obsession and "potential" that teams have for their programs has always interested me. Like, if you *really* want the 20 best drivers in the world why not go get a veteran driver like Haas did with Hulk? I guess the thinking is is that it is short term, but so were de Vries, Latifi, Mazepin etc. For instance, could you throw an LMP2 champ in a car and see what he can do? Could you try out other drivers from other series in pre season testing? IDK what exactly I'm getting at, just that maybe grabbing the next F2 kid off the shelf every single time isn't always, 100% the answer.

    • @WolfPackAlpha-sn2sw
      @WolfPackAlpha-sn2sw Рік тому +1

Imo Nico not only was never intended to be long term, he just isn’t a good driver, but he’s consistent. He’s failed under pressure multiple times trying to BE good. The idea isn’t necessary to have the best 20 drivers, what’s more important is that the team is successful and maintaining that success. They have to think long term and gauge what young talents could aid that success for a good amount of time. De Vries was very short term, he was never going to last and imo never deserved an F1 seat at all, his performance at Monza was always going to paint him in a good light, the track favored the car. Latifi and Mazepin got seats because they could fund their teams and that financial backing was enough for them to deal with the awful driving. Using LMP2 as an example is poor taste imo, you can’t compare endurance or GT racing to Formula racing AT ALL. The way you drive the car is fundamentally different on every single level. A better comparison would be Indycar, but that’s besides the point. Logan specifically was pulled because he was the only talent with enough super license points they could pull quickly after De Vries went to Alpha Tauri and signed away his chances in F1. The past 5-6 years or so have given us a LOT of amazing talent out of F2. Notably LeClerc and Russel. Logan is an unique case to me bc he’s clearly demonstrated that he as the talent to make it in F1. We saw it in Jeddah alone, but he does has a few other strong performances. What makes his situation tricky to gauge is that he’s the only true rookie on the grid since Tsunoda and a lot of the community has forgotten what true rookies need to develop, time. Logan has publicly admitted his short comings and said his main struggle is adjusting to the sensitivity of an F1 car compared to F2. The fact that he can keep up with the pack AT ALL and not finish dead last every race is already a big step up for Williams. On top of that, even though he was promoted very early by the team’s own admission, he’s shown great progress so far. Logan specifically has shown he can SEND the car if it’s in a window he likes. If he can learn the car’s quirks can better set up the car and thus improve performance. I don’t think he’ll show improvement on the time chart in any meaningful way if he’s not given a second season. But I think the second half of another season would show that Logan is fully capable of staying in sight of Albon and maybe even beating him every now and then. He just needs the time that all true rookies need.

If you ask me, Albon had the ultimate acid test, being repeatedly comprehensively beaten by Verstappen in 2019/20 and has been probably made stronger as a result. Sargent is in his very first year in F1. It's inevitable that he's shown a lack of experience this year, it's one of those things that comes with being a rookie. He has been chipping away as far as I can tell, relative to Albon, but he has been unlucky as well which contributes to Albon having scored all 11 of Williams' points in 2023

    • @SiVlog1989

@Beau_Rivage what you have to remember is that he, like Pierre Gasly, was driving a car with little experience (compared to Verstappen, who was in his 4th full time season in 2019) that didn't suite their driving style. From their different perspectives, Galsy and Red Bull team members, talked about how Gasly wanted to make setup changes to make the car balance less on the nose (for the driver, it was to make him more comfortable with the balance, enable him to gain the confidence to push the car to its limits, but from the team perspective, they felt he was wasting time). What I'm saying is, there's no shame about him being no match for Verstappen. Frankly, the way Verstappen is driving from 2019, it would be nearly impossible for anyone to match him in that car, it just flows naturally. With how he was beaten comprehensively by Verstappen in their year and a half as team mates, then spending a year on the sidelines, it would have been easy for Albon to fall into a death spiral, him not racing in F1 ever again. But the fact that he rebuilt his career deserves credit where it's due.
I know it's not a perfect example, but after his miserable 2001 season (where he scored just 1 points finish and plummeted from 8th to 17th in a year) who would have predicted that 8 years later, Jenson Button would be the 2009 World Champion?

I don’t think Logan is the problem in a way, maybe the second car is just terrible and there is something wrong with it maybe…

From what we saw of Alex in RBR most wouldn't rate him above average, so Sergeant is complete crap and a waste of a half decent seat at Williams. Stroll is another waste of a half decent seat at AM.

I’d like for Sargent to get a point score and Williams to get 7th by 1 point

Logan should easily have a 2nd season. However, Mick was fairly mediocre and did millions of dollars of damage during his tenure at a Haas... Williams CERTAINLY can't afford to have Schumacher do that in one of their cars.

Sargeant pain. Aside from his failures on track, the other issues is that he is the only underperforming rookie left now that Nyck de Vries has left. It also doesn't help that Piastri is showing how it's supposed to be done, most recently by showing a consistent pace advantage over Lando in Spa. Logan is in the spotlight in a bad way

But you can't expect all drivers to be special, piastri is one of them you and you rarely get that.

My expectations for Logan is replica Zhou's rookie season.
Zhou got much better by closing the gap with Bottas in second half of 2022. Logan should be able to. Since his F2 F3 record was better than Zhou.

American here; Logan gets a weird amount of hate lol but then you remember that his parents are billionaires and it’s like 🤷🏼‍♂️. Seriously though, he’s had some promising moments but even us American fans know that if he doesn’t show some serious improvement after the break then his days are numbered.

Only his uncle is a billionaire and obviously he has not supported him in his career because he had to retire from f3 because of costs and couldn't make the jump into f2 after nearly beating piastri in f3 because of high costs. That was until the Williams academy came along and rejuvenated his career and paid for him to be in f2 and then obviously f1 the next year.

I do want to see Mick back but not in the expanse of my fellow Countryman. Plus the last time an American got a second season was Eddie Cheever and he should have been considered an Italian because he was raised in Italy.
