    I just purchased a couple very inexpensive CBG or Cigar Box Guitars (Hinkler - Electric Blues 3-String Cigar Box Electric Guitar). They are very cool guitars that would fun for a first or just another guitar for the collection. I focus on the CBG for a moment but I also talk about getting the first guitar. New guitar players are overwhelmed with what to buy and what not.
    I hope you all enjoy this episode. If you have any questions, let me know in the comments.
    Enjoy!

    If anyone actually believes that people all quit playing guitars just because they started on a cheap guitar, then explain how Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughan or even other greats all started on crappy old Silvertone guitars from Sears as a kid. :-) These kits are a great investment for a young kid who is just starting. Look at any cigar box video from someone like Justin Johnson and you can easily play along and learn the bleusey style associated with playing such. Heck,as a birthday gift or Christmas present, this is a real winner, too. If you are also learning how to play the harmonica, this can help you as you learn riffs and style for this music. Nice video and great to hear the positive comments on this kit. There are several models of Epiphone or Fender small 15R amps which also have reverb for even more variances in sound.

    I ordered one several months ago and it's just been sitting in the corner still in the box. I kind of forgot about it and then I started watching these cigar box guitar videos. You inspired me to get it out and I am going to get it together today. Thanks. I enjoyed your video.

    I'm fortunate enough to have a dedicated Music Room. I do own a Spider 4 half stack, as well as a Line 6 Flextone 2 Head that I still gig live with, and a handful of Tube Amps. I use a Boss ME80 multi effects processor and for smaller gigs, I simply take that and go direct to the PA. That's it! Point is, it's perfect in the setup you describe as well

      Good luck to you man. I enjoy messing around on mine and the package is really nice for what you pay. This will be your first of many guitars and amps. Just keep on practicing and play with others whenever you can.. no matter how bad you think you are, that is when and where you learn even more. Just have fun and soon that noise will be great... I am sure in no time you will be better than I was in the video!

    Over a year now, so why not do a review of your experience with it and how it holds up or any pros and cons you have come across? Love to hear you do some tabs or covers on it. I have two of these that i just bought. I made a goofy mistake in buying one off of ebay though, as the price was cheaper at the Musician's Friend store than paying shipping for an ebay one. Still, they are great for a cheapo way to get into cigar box guitars. I have built about 4 CBG's and simply purchasing these for fun is actually cheaper and less labor intensive for a beginner. The CD included has a tuning file/tab contained on it. Heck, you can give one of these to a child and reap the reward of stimulating them to learn. Give one to a homeless person and make his/her life more pleasant, as they play fine even without the amplifier. Your small amp is fine and they make several styles for cheap practice playing that are sold online these days. Thanks for sharing, but how about some videos of you playing with it, besides just this one? I am also learning to play harmonica, so it is great to use this for practicing with as an accompanying instrument. Again, thanks for sharing.

      Some of the very best had nothing else but a harmonica and the desire to play... The blues comes from that place. Just play that harp and enjoy...nthe guitar will come.
      I started with the harp and still what I love to play.
      This has been a trying time, but keep your head up! This is what the blues is all about. Making the best out of what you have and hope. The blues is not sad, the blues keeps you going.

    • @jaimeastin

      Brian Hemmis
      DigiTech.
      Rp-90 for guitars
      Bp-90 for bass guitars.
      These are the most basic models and they go up from there. There are similar pedals made by zoom and boss. Check them out at guitar center if you can.

    I built almost 25-30 cigar box guitar .. sold them.. give away to friends as present.. some to a real musician playing in some bands .. but hey .. i'm tired of finding stuff and object to use for building them.. it is so frustrating ... i cannot even find cigar boxes for free in italy ... would you recommend this kit to me? i want to keep one of cigar box guitar for myself and this kit does have all i need in one package... it will be allright for me too..? tell me your opinion man ... thanks

      I think this is a good package. I liked mine enough to buy a second... I still have not built one yet... but I plan to. this kits sounds good and you can customize it later to your liking since you have the skill. for me here the kit wasn't too expensive which makes me recommend it even more.

    a buddy at work gave me a practice amp and I was jamming for a least two hours ...three days ago I broke my high g string I went to guitar center and got a new string but it just doesn't sound right to me can you suggest a replacement string that might work I tried an email to the company that makes this guitar but no reply yet

    • @jaimeastin
      @jaimeastin  6 років тому

      Yeah, skip the light strings. You want thicker warmer strings. But really, it is all about the sound you want. Stay in the same set. change all strings. You can just about anything string and tune it to where you want.
      I use more warm, blues strings. Daddero and DR brand strings.

    • @thomasmorgan2346

      JaimeAstin thanks awesome video I played something like this song but your version is better

    • @jaimeastin
      @jaimeastin  6 років тому

      But you might like the lighter strings. Just change them in set so that they are similar sounding. You might one day mix gages for your unique sound. Nothing is wrong when you and others are feeling it. Shoot look at Jimmy's Hendricks and Albert King who played the guitar upside down.
      You posting any videos? I need to get back to playing.
