I’m only 12 minutes in and love that it’s recognised a “ one size fits all” approach can’t be generically applied . This is the main thing I found disheartening with dog training club instructors that I went too, ALL dogs regardless of how they are physically or mentally built, get an identical training approach.
I love your site. It’s a wealth of information from training your dog, behavior issues to health care of your dogs. I wish you could put a small basic program together for shelters to give to new dog owners on what to do with their dogs from crate training , health , training and common behavior issues and how to correct them.
12:27 this one comment gave me the tool to get a good "out" command! I didn't realize that still holding the toy was enough fun for him to not let go! Stopped immediately!
Love your channel. Down to earth & questions answered before I even knew I needed the answer. Thank you. Looking forward to the new year & teaching my dog to paddle board with me. Have a great day!
Dear Robert , I think you are such a huge blessing for the dogtraining world. ❤ I learn so important things from your videos, Thank you so much!!! Lots of greets from germany
For what it's worth, I could hear you just fine the entire show. After you turned it up, I could hear "pegging the red" as you were super close to clipping. I'm watching on my phone. Appreciate your time.
We need to have discernment as trainers & owners to know when our dog is making a mistake or disobedience and respond accordingly. I see too many ppl giving HUGE corrections for mistakes when the dog is not certain, unfamiliar situations/circumstances etc. Balanced training begins with keeping the ego in check and not making corrections on our dogs that are linked to ego/emotion.
?I have a Belgian Sheepdog who is training to be a mobility assistance dog. We're getting ready for our first airline flight and I'm trying to figure out the best way to prepare for that.
If possible do a pre-visit to airport. Do a practice run through as much as you can. The crowded mall is a great substitute. Start visiting medical buildings, going upstairs, elevator rides, practice long stays by your feet at home, at park, car rides, stay at the entrance of a busy store watching patiently, waiting in long lines, bring a long chew bone for your dog to chew when on your trip. Of course treats for rewarding great behavior.
@@ThePyrshepnBelgn I have a shepherd mix that was rescued from a shelter and I believe she is mixed with Mal, she’s 1 now and settling is still something we work on. The airport is a huge challenge due to lots of down time. Do lots of walking & training around the airport before you board the plane.

@@bartekkondrat5524 I know what it means. My grandfather was in the 91st chemical mortar battalion under Pattons 3rd Army. He gave me a German belt buckle, and a few other things. ⁉️ Robert how come humane societies/shelters, large animal rescues do not have a dog trainer on duty to help both dogs & new dog owners? It’s kind of owning a restaurant and not hiring an experienced cook.
I was told that using the dogtra ecollar for my Belgian Malinois (7 months old) will ruin her. I'm so confused what to do. I purchased a dogtra ARC1200S, which arrived a few days ago and I haven't used it yet. My Mali is high drive. She's good in the house and garden, but in busy areas, i.e a park, her recall is challenging. I thought using an ecollar would help me with her obedience training. Please help . . .
Get a clicker and hand feed every single gram of kibble when your dog does something you have asked ,sit ,stand , stay come etc and do this for three weeks at least and take it out of the dogs allowance. The brain chemistry that this creates will will make it a force to be reckoned with ,the question is ,do you have the patience. I hope so and when done with passion your recall will be 100%, best wishes for you and your dog.
@ I was trained along with my Mali by ghost force k9 academy in Scotland, these guys ran the dog cell for special forces uk and set up the academy upon retirement from service and this is what I had to do as part of that process in training. After 100,s if not thousands of clicks the dog finds it almost impossible to disregard , keep it joyfull and you will be rewards ten fold ,good luck these dogs are tremendous, iron fist in a velvet glove . God bless.
My brother uses an ecollar for emergencies. He only used it when he tried to leave the property or so he would not run out in the street. He gives him an order first and if he did not listen he relied on the ecollar. His dog is good natured and using one did not ruin him. It is used for correction, not training. He was older than 7 months. I am not sure about his dog’s age when he first started using it. His dog was at least 14 months old before I met him.
@ great advice , I use a whistle for emergencies in that it signals good things , venison sausage , liver or chicken etc . Last night my dog set off after deer in the field at night and I had to use it ,plenty of praise in coming back with a tasty treat works wonders.
20:50 wrestling with the dog: My long time experience, 30+ years, 3rd dog (now malinoisXGSD), is that wrestling is the BEST way to create good relation and trust with your dog. I always use that as the foundation of training. My dogs never turned against me. This enhances your leader position, if you never back up (rolling on you back, etc. is fine if you are relaxed). If wrestling turns to be too nasty for your taste, just stop the wrestling, go passive, use words to stop the dog. If your dog stops at the first sign, you can be sure that your dog respects you and accepts you as a leader.

Great advice! We've done a lot of that, mostly concerned with getting a young Belgian to chill that long. LOL

and when he doesn't stop??? then you're in deep sh!t... don't wrestle with your dog... that's my advice. people can choose who to listen to here!
