Excellent video, used to go there as a young man to watch newport county in the Welsh Cup back in the 1980s,and that stand was so steep, we always have a good day out. NOW living in Torquay that would be a good ground to make a video of. Now a national league south side. Thank you.
Oxford arms great pub, lovely landlord and Landlady, and just 50 yards or so from ground. In all the years I have been to Edgar street never realised the curve at meadow end was due to it being an athletics ground. great info. They are trying to get up to date lighting so I think the pylons will be coming down.
Thank you for a fitting tribute to our lovely ground. Those iconic flood lights are coming down very soon, however, as we got a grant to put up new ones.
Great video and love your passion. It’s not changed much since I started going in late 70s. The demolished end is going to be a new stand and student accommodation. Be good to see you at a game this season as we rise back towards the EFL.
What a great video. I’m a Hereford fan and stand in the stand where there are seats above. The pillars supporting the seating above affect the view, but I have my traditional space now so can’t move.
I was there as an 11 year old in the 18,000 plus crowd against Sheffield Wednesday in 1959. They had straw bales all around the ground close to the pitch so that us kids could sit on them in the front of the crowd and all manage to see the game! 3rd round of FA cup. Hereford lost 3-0 but had beaten QPR in the 2nd round 6-1.
I seem to remember there were crates from Weston,s cider company for the youngsters to sit on placed on the grass behind the goals for the Newcastle game.
I’ve made 2 visits to Edgar Street in the last 52 years. The first, as a14 year old, saw Ronnie Radfordcbury Newcastle The second, 3 weeks ago, when Hereford beat my local team, South Shields 3-0 Great atmosphere still !
@@ronwhitfield8872 the day after I went! I had a look around on that Friday! I would’ve stayed another night and gone to that game but had Truro vs dorking booked! Was it good home atmosphere also?
Hello mate - and thank you for looking around my local club and showing the ground off in a great light. The sweep of the Meadow End, you mentioned the athletic track, when the Meadow End is full and in voice the curve of the terrace amplifies and attenuates the roar. It really does make the hair on the nape of your neck stand up. The Blackfriars Street end is indeed being renovated. The concrete terracing and surrounds (breeze block walls etc) was subsiding. The Blackfriars Street end was condemned. NOW, will the council's backing (our landlord) the end has been demolished and you'll all be pleased to know that what could be recycled was recycled. The asbestos roofing was obviously not. Hereford FC (hopefully the name will once again be suffixed with UNITED once again) are to have a seated stand behind the goal and the space behind that will be accommodation for students who attend the local collages. I was at the Newcastle United game (so were 100,000 others, at the last count, and that number still grows) however I was as a 16 year old. Mud, mud glorious mud, that day in February really was muddy and very mild for February. I was also at the Brighton game when we drew, and lost our place in the football league. We also lost our club to two Lahndahn wide boys who thought they could try it on, Tommy Agombar and Andy Lonsdale, REMEMBER those names and if they ever come near your football club then run them out of town pronto. Chancers and criminals with an eye on the prize of stripping the club and selling the ground. We survived them and Hereford FC continues to flourish thanks to shrewd management on and off the pitch. If you ever get the chance, go and stand on the Meadow End and experience for yourselves the Meadow End roar, it really is spooky! COYB.
@@petewilliams7809 thank you 🙏 this was a great read! I’m hoping to come in either the FA Cup or the FA Trophy this season and I can’t wait for it! On talking to my Dad. He was actually at the Newcastle Fa cup game also which I never knew haha
The council have granted in the last few weeks a 45 year extension to the lease that was running out in 2030.This new lease will unlock grants for work on the ground to go ahead. A new stand is to be built soon where the empty side of the ground is. New floodlights will be up in the next few months and the towers will be demolished. The iconic Len Weston stand is a grade 2 listed building. The reason it is shallow is because Edgar Street was widened , so the original stand had to be demolished. The whole ground is being re furbished as and when cash becomes available
The Len Weston Stand is on the right hand side as you face the empty end of the ground. with standing underneath. Hereford FC may be changing their name back to United; its going to a fans vote soon. Hereford hope to be a league team again and you have to have a 4 sided ground to be in the league.
Even though I’m a Newcastle fan I’m so disillusioned with the Premier League and I’ve always had a soft spot for Hereford I’m planning on going to a game at Edgar Street this season
@TheDevonMackem Really good, that you got a peak inside, it's a lovely ground, rich in history, just a shame about the other stand, it couldn't be saved etc. Keep it up mate, the podcast, the content is levelling up 🙌
