regarding the kissing dear toasters, i grew up in a house that did not kiss on the lips at any age (maybe as a baby?) so i personally always found it odd with adults. I don’t know how to explain it exactly but maybe it doesn’t feel appropriate because the child is no longer in a protected role? like as a child, they’re loved and supported by their parents in so many unique and intimate ways because they cannot function on their own. so when they are an adult and have their own autonomy to see them supported or loved in the way the did as a child always felt weird. I guess I assumed at some point it stoped between childhood and adulthood? nooooo clue

As someone from a close family - we do/did NOT kiss on the lips and I think it’s very strange for adults to do so. I can understand kissing babies on the lips but after the baby stage seriously what’s the need for the lips lol just kiss on the cheek and call it a day! weirdos!

Super late to the convo but I also had this issue with my boyfriend (now husband) and I told him how uncomfortable it made me feel that he kissed his parents on the lips. Slowly, after reminding him each time it happened, it stopped. He actually realized after a while that it was not really appropriate and then we had a child and I said, would you kiss your kid when they’re 30 on the lips?

Late comment, BUT in regards to kids kissing their parents on the lips - this is actually a cultural thing in South Louisiana (maybe specifically with the Italians but not positive). I grew up kissing my parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and close friends on the lips. I still do it today with my parents and some close friends who are also from South Louisiana. My husband, who is from North Louisiana, finds it weird AF but I decided that it's the way I grew up, it was part of our culture, so I'm not gonna second guess myself.

Just realized I kiss my family members on the lips and I’m questioning everything 😂 Like even my mom and her mother-in-law (my paternal grandmother) kiss each other on the lips. Guys I feel like this is an elderly take on the Idol. Especially considering you haven't actually watched it. I actually love the show. Granted I am a 27 yr old adult but I think that it's cool and raunchy but they are ACTING out a story of a girl being exploited in Hollywood. Also, it's HBO?!?! It's not like they're playing this on TLC... I don't know why people are so up in arms about this. Sex & the city was wayyyyyy worse.
It just makes me sad because I feel like we're getting to a place in society where everything is offensive and it takes away from the art.

So in regards to the kissing thing it is totally how someone is raised. And it can vary within a household. I was not raised doing this. My husband was but only his father did it his mom was like yeah no. But up until his dad died at the age of 75 he would kiss his dad hello and good bye on the lips. Just a peck. His dad did that with everyone though. It was he way of greeting. My husband warned me about it the first time I met his dad that he would do it. If it is their way and their custom it is what is and I’m not going to be rude. I do not miss our kids on lips but my husband does because it is how he was raised. Our kids are 10&12 a boy and a girl. It is what they know and how they have been raised. If they want to take issue or bring it up to him when they are older then that will be their call. I do not feel she can say anything. It is his routine and custom and tradition with his mom. If they get married she can make the request he not do that with their kids. But it’s a peck it isn’t like they are making out.

My family used to all kiss on the mouth and then as I got older I think I just didn’t like it and it stopped like no one in my family does it anymore but we don’t have children around so maybe that’s why.. I remember my aunt came to visit when I was in my teens and she kissed me on the mouth and it grossed me out since by that time it wasn’t normal for us lmao and from then on I would just turn my head quickly haha

What you need to do is mention the topic in-front of both of them. Find the opportunity but make it light, like when they first do it…say something like “oh tee hee I will never get over that”…and boom, that opens the box. They’ll ask you why and you can simply explain that you grew up differently and you’ve never seen adult children kiss their moms (and just note their reaction)…maybe they will enlighten you and you can have a different take or maybe you will also find the opportunity for them to get the sense that it kind of makes you uncomfortable BUT you aren’t asking them to stop. They will, subconsciously or not, remember this and possibly modify their behavior

Girls dont kiss babys in the mouth. It is for their own safety, because of possible infections, illnesses even if you are the mom or dad. I have my toddler and i kiss him in his cheeks all day but not in the mouth. I know they have tiny fishy lips but I wouldnt even let my husband nor my mom kiss my son on his mouth. I would find it weird to see my husband kissing his mom on her lips for that @deartoaster haha
