Finally I have found an actual human person making a video tutorial on these sleeves. I'm planning to make a Cranach gown, and this is super helpful.

I love this Cranach gown you made!! I have plans to make a Cranach gown in the future and based on portraits of gowns from the period, it was often cartridge pleated to make it really full and luxurious and expensive (since the wearers were often high nobility or ladies of high status) because it took so much yardage to make cartridge pleats and its very labor intensive. I can relate your struggle with the upholstery velvet and I think the dress you ended up with is absolutely stunning because of the brocade being at the waist instead of the hem which really makes it a unique dress and these Cranach gowns are really unique indeed. Bravo!!

Thank you so much!! I really appreciate that!! I wish you all the best with your Cranach gown. I'm sure it will be beautiful! And ugh yes velvet is so beautiful, but also so expensive. And cartridge pleats are so pretty, but they take a whole lot of time. I've only used them when making my 1840's dress. Thanks again!!

Historical Belle other cosplayers and costumers tend to intentionally bulk it out with felt or wool or even a couple layers of canvas if the fabrics used is flimsy so your upholstery velvet would’ve possibly worked for cartridge pleats with at least 2 rows of basting stitches to cartridge pleat it.

The cross crossy things were probably just decorative lacing. The poofy part was the undershift pulled up in-between the corset and sleeve. 😉

Beautiful work! Yet at the time it was way easier: the shift would fill the gaps of the sleeves!
