Kind of an unrelated story, but I found a shiny Machop in Let's Go Pikachu. I named him Suey after this song. (Ma)Chop Suey He's now a Machamp. I'm so proud of him.
After listening to this song literally thousands of times since its inception in 2001, I’ve finally come up with a cohesive interpretation of the lyrics: It’s basically about how not taking responsibility for your actions can lead to suicidal ideations. The perspective of the lyrics transition between the suicidal individual and System of a Down. The verses are about the mistakes that are made by the individual, where each mistake seems minor but truly has much deeper significance. System of a Down is harshly criticizing them by saying “you wanted to”. As in by not taking responsibility for the their life, they are enabling their own demise. “I don’t think you trust in my self righteous suicide” is the individual saying that their suicide is warranted because the life is unfair or the world is against them when really they are the problem. “I cry when angels deserve to die” This is SOAD stating that because of this self righteous mentality, maybe the individual does deserve to die. Sad, but again the harsh reality. The bridge is the individual kills themself “father into your hands I command my spirits”. And blames the same father (god) for their demise (“why have you forsaken me”) when it is really their fault as reiterated in the absolutely gorgeous outro which really reflects the sadness of the situation. Now if I could only figure out jet pilot...
@shnoogums1 actually it talks about domestic abuse.... this is the point of view of the person being abused (a woman considering the passages about make up). Serj Tankian talked about it if you want to google it

That is completely heartbreaking.

System of a down was my first CD back when I was in the sixth grade. 23 years later and I still love them.
Middle School anthem, right here.
High school anthem for me
+Nikochi Amiko ikr,i love t tho XD
If you guys ever watch the behind the scenes of Soad, Darons so fucking weird lol. He gets high before the concerts somtimes, flashed his ass to the audience, plus dont even get me started on his badass eyes. He can make that shit look like there about to pop outside of his head
When this song says "Trust in my self righteous suicide" it touches my heart, and I start to tear up.
?
WHY YOU LEAVE THE KETCHUP ON THE TABLE?!?!
Cuz Sans wanted to. (my sis wanted me to ;-;)
OMG FUCKIN GENIOUS MI FUCKIN IDOL

"Hey you should listen to this cool song, it's called 'Chop Suey'"
"Aight what genre is it?"
"...Is 'singing while on amphetamines' a genre?"
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
pretty sure he has a.d.d or atleast one of the members
System of a downs discography is literally 97.8% fire, straight gas. They are my fav band of all time. Taj has the second greatest vocals of all time (Chris cornell first)
In such a soad fan I might out him infront of him but noway can I say that publicly the almighty cornell. Both legends but soad band is easily the best band ever. Just debate your grave that this point
Ps sorry if I offended anybody
No way mjk ftw
Chester Bennington comes to mind
This song is a literal rollercoaster
Yup. You want it to go again
The first time he says "angels deserve to die" ughhh that scream is perfect
this song has a whole new meaning if you have lost your father to suicide... i cry every time, i love this
Kind of an unrelated story, but I found a shiny Machop in Let's Go Pikachu. I named him Suey after this song.
(Ma)Chop Suey
He's now a Machamp. I'm so proud of him.
loool
What a Coincidence.
@tahlin your username is weird
@tahlin who are u
@tahlin thx for the freedom
I want this played at my funeral
Cobalt Blues me too
Got to be weird every time it says wake up
Cobalt Blues Okay
Adrian you got a point
Considering this is a song about fallen angels being forsaken by God himself, it might be a bad idea.
I'm an Atheist, but it's better safe than sorry.
Song is still a absolute banger all these years later
Sounds so much like he yells "FUUUCKK OFFFFF" And not father 😂😂😂
After listening to this song literally thousands of times since its inception in 2001, I’ve finally come up with a cohesive interpretation of the lyrics:
It’s basically about how not taking responsibility for your actions can lead to suicidal ideations.
Now if I could only figure out jet pilot...
shnoogums1 w so t w h a t
SushiLegs and it would give people a thousand times less insight
Actually the song is about Jesus Christ and a critique of Christianity. Im surprised you ve never heard of the real interpretation.
I’d rather not read all that
@shnoogums1 actually it talks about domestic abuse.... this is the point of view of the person being abused (a woman considering the passages about make up). Serj Tankian talked about it if you want to google it
ah so that's what he said, i only catch "wake up" or "table" whenever i listen to it..

When I first listen to a song I listen to the beat and lyrics and if I like it then I play it over and over again so I understood all of it but the hard part was being able to actually sing the fast part
same lol
Y'all ever feel nostalgic for something but don't even know why? This song is that for me as I don't even remember how I got around to listening to this song but I'm glad to have found it. I always tear up at the end.
17 years old... working in a bakery and a coworker showed me this song at work....that was 15 years ago and I've loved it ever since
