Since the 1960's when anyone wanted to do something like these projects they would create an argument that it was "sustainable". Soon people would forget the issue and decades later we find it wasn't sustainable. The word itself has morphed into some kind of tranquilizer that soothes our minds and we forget all about it. A look at the end of the Indus River shows a large area of wetlands. A drop in the water level of the river will effect the habit in the basin. But who cares. People are far more important. We are "sustainable", well as long as we have resources like water. How long will that be?
Zardari is nothing to do with this project rather he stopped work after the PPP took over the power on departure of Musharraf. It was Musharraf's baby. In fact the canal was drawn from Tonsa rather than Guddu to bypass Sindh's control. This also increased the project cost for extra work. Musharraf also built two dams one in Zhob district and the second in Kech district. He met the long standing demand of Balochistan people to build Luck pass tunnel near Quetta on Quetta-Karachi highway to provide relief to the goods transporters who were forced to get help of tractors to cross the ascending grade of the road.
Cover the canal with Solar Panels, it will reduce the evaporation and keep the panels cold for solar efficiency.

A look at the end of the Indus River shows a large area of wetlands. A drop in the water level of the river will effect the habit in the basin.

Zardari is nothing to do with this project rather he stopped work after the PPP took over the power on departure of Musharraf. It was Musharraf's baby. In fact the canal was drawn from Tonsa rather than Guddu to bypass Sindh's control. This also increased the project cost for extra work. Musharraf also built two dams one in Zhob district and the second in Kech district. He met the long standing demand of Balochistan people to build Luck pass tunnel near Quetta on Quetta-Karachi highway to provide relief to the goods transporters who were forced to get help of tractors to cross the ascending grade of the road.
