    I needed to replace my right tail light bulb, but my truck couldn't open. With your video, I was able to open the truck, replace the bulb and pass my DMV inspection. Perfect video for my 2007 GMC Yukon. Thank you!!!!!

      Just wanted to give you an update. The issue was the liftgate release switch. I replaced that along with the locking mechanism. Without you video. I would have taken it to the dealer. Thanks for saving me $$$$$ bro!

    I watched your video about a year ago and wala it works. There’s a bunch of videos on how to repair the rear hatch. Most are 15 mins or more. Yours was the BEST, and I do mean the BEST. The dealer said that the problem was either the motor needs to be replaced or the switch needed to be reprogrammed. Thanks 🙏 for helping me reprogram it!!!

    I watched this video cause my window won't open. But if my hatch goes out this is the best hack I've seen👍. Totally something I would have done to my '92 S10. You sir have just earned a degree in Cajun ingenuity 🍻!

    I am totally trying your trick this week!! Our Yukon has 275,000 miles, engine is solid but the back door is broken. The dealership was going to charge $1500 for the door actuator and handle. The truck is not worth that much money! Thank you for the video! Will let you know if it works!

    Thank you for the video. It saved me lot of time. But I did not open the door panel before opening trunk. It is really hard to do. Instead, I drilled a very small hole in it (the plastic panel). That spot is marked by a very small circle in the latch area on left side of the car (if looking forward), about 2'' from center line and bottom. Then I used a thin hook to push and open the latch. The problem in my case was the lock switch pad ($30.00 from GM dealer) in the outer handle.

    • @ryaneaglestar1081
      @ryaneaglestar1081 5 років тому

      I noticed that small circle to. My 11 Tahoe rear hatch just decided not to work one day while at Costco.

  • @DarylWrightG
    @DarylWrightG 6 років тому

    Thanks for the video! The Haynes manual told me where the switch was but didn't tell me how to release it other than sticking a rod in the hole you drill in the panel.

  • @klp9401

    Great idea. The actual external switch is only $17 at advance I just went and bought it about an hour ago but I’m thinking that might be easier than whole panel off And replacing that switch. Great video

    If you look at the lower cover panel, just off center two and a half inches up from the bottom you’ll see a factory dimple in the plastic. This was put there by GM to mark the exact spot to drill a small hole, which is directly in front of that little release lever. Once the hole is drilled, you simply push a small screwdriver or coat hanger through the hole and open the lift gate…

    Yes there is a video on UA-cam video on how to do exactly what you have done by just drilling a hole in the plastic on the outside of the mechanism . Their is pre-determined spot if you look at the plastic to drill a hole that will allow you to activate the same switch without taking off all of the above that you just did. Check this UA-cam

    Make a small hole on the in side back cover & feed the cable from the inside. Pop the rear glass open (by remote- or handle push button), then pull the cable. It keeps the thieves thinking.....

    • @foxbodyshawn2391
      @foxbodyshawn2391 5 років тому

      I'm going to post a video soon but the top part for the window has a lever that you can push with your finger. You'll see where the actuator should engage the lever. Press it and the window will release. I had to figure this out in the rain lol

      Karl H like I said it was a quick easy fix..some people dont have the funds immediately or the time to drop their car off at a shop to let them replace a poorly engineered component

    • @KarlH1980
      @KarlH1980 6 років тому

      I understand that. Particularly when you take it in and they look puzzled and guess it will cost several hundreds of dollars to fix simply in trying to open then door.

    *** LOOK HERE *** I used this video to temporarily fix the problem, but found this and it actually fixed it. The repair is super easy and inexpensive. You just need to remove the handle on the outside and replace the switch. The part you need can be found here www.1aauto.com/chevrolet-gmc-cadillac-liftgate-release-switch-acdelco-d1499f/i/acztm00004 for about $35.
