    As a German I have to say, I am impressed how good the presentation from the gentleman was.
    He explained the history, the alternatives and he has a good detailed knowledge of the G3 rifle that I didn't know about.
    Thank you and greetings from Germany !
    PS: Be careful and prudent with firearms ......

    My dad loved and hated this gun. He used it in his entire career, except the very last when he switched to HK416. He claimed it was perfect for Norway, being an absolute hammer that suited the terrain. He hated it in the beginning, for being so heavy, but as time went on, he came to appreciate the ruggedness.

    I was in the Military and we used only the G3 - this was in 1995 - and I found it really easy to use and reliable. At that time, when we were 18, it was mandatory to do a year at the armed forces here in Portugal. I slept with a G3, I ran miles and miles with a G3 at my shoulder, I went to the shower with a G3... and much more! I miss her!

      @@mbr5742 Yes, it's a long rifle! But, at the time, it was the only weapon used by the people who were doing the mandatory military service. I never used any other gun and we had it with us almost all of the time. I'm 1'73m tall and in the beginning it was hard for me to fire it with some degree of accuracy. When I went the first time to the fire range, I only hit the trees behind the target and brought down two branches that fell on top of these guys that were in a pit managing the change of the targets and sending the hits. Yes, It was a long rifle but it was the only one we had and we had to get used to it and take care of her.

Yes, the recoil difference was one of the first things you notice. Back in the day you guys had this big night vision scope you could mount. They'd love to fuck with us on the night range cuz we'd get too close to the scope. Dudes were coming off the line with these red scratches around their aiming eye, haha. Spent my conscription year with an AG3 (G3), had the HK 79 Granade tube attached, so I had to handle a fairly heavy rifle. It was an absolute blast to shoot, in all conditions, even when it was frozen over during winter exercises.. Now I'm in the home guard issued the HK 416-N, which i LOVE.

    No SG3 in the Bundeswehr. We had the G3ZF, a "selected for precision barrel) G3 with Scope (all G3 have the rail) and the G3SG1 (add a bipod and adjustable cheek rest to the ZF, still a desginated marksman rifle rather than a sniper rifle). Later the police got the G3 based PSG1 (Polizei Scharfschützen Gewehr - Police sniper rifle) and the MSG aka G8 with the BGS (Bundesgrenzschutz - our rather militaristic border guards of the cold war, our prime anti terror group GSG-9 was part of them, german customs/Zoll is a different group)

    That’s an awesome looking weapon and it sure does have quite a recoil. I carried an M4 auto on a tactical unit. It had almost no recoil but on full auto you had to stand firmly or you’d loose your balance. We also trained on the MP5. It was a nice compact weapon for room entries and active shooter training. Cold War vet here... when I was in the Cdn Reserves, Queen's Own Rifles, we had the FN C1A1 and the C2 support squad ver. As buddy was saying about how H&K got into the gun biz, Inglis - which made washing machines and such, made the Browning 9mm pistol (apparently, it's STILL in service o.0). When I went into the Reg Army, as a tanker, we still used the FN til we switch to our ver of the M16/AR15 - the C7 & C8 ;) I remember if you held the FN the wrong way, you'd end up with "chipmunk cheeks" from the recoil, and was heavy to tote around o.0 Luckily, before the M16 switch, we also had the Sterling 9mm SMGs aka Star Wars Stormtrooper guns ;)
    I have an air-soft ver of the G3 I got in the 90s; it's hard to get stuff in Canada these days o.0 Thanks for sharing!

    • @shawnsanto3564
      @shawnsanto3564 3 роки тому

      I too used the FN in the Canadian army reserve. Joined in 1986 and used it until 1992.
      The kick could be brutal if you don’t set it right with your cheek. The funniest experience I saw was on my basic when one guy in my section inserted the gas plug backwards, so no return gas. He had to cock it after every shot. Our sergeant won’t let him off the firing line until his 20 round magazine was empty, as a training point.
      The smeg, the Stirling 9mm sub machine gun, could be a hand full. The safeties were iffy on some. Just dropping it, while cocked, could cause the smeg to empty its magazine on its own while bouncing on the ground. This could make things lively to everyone in the immediate area.

      @@shawnsanto3564 I knew that was an issue with the old Sten guns, never heard or saw that with the Sterlings o.0 I do remember the forestocks on the new C7/C8 would pop off during drill aka Presenting Arms as the FN could handle a good slap; had to be more gentle with the C7s xD

      Agree.
      I shot the CETME C back in the 90s, and I found it more dangerous to your cheekbone than to your shoulder.
      Everybody warned us about the recoil (and yes, it made the 9mm Star Z-70 seem like a toy gun) but after a couple shots you got... I won't say comfortable, but used to it. It was more about the weight and the noise.
