    I don’t know how many times I’ve replayed this clip. Lopatkina is my most favorite ballerina, and Alexandrova is my favorite Gamzatti! She does Gamzatti with Svetlana too and it’s just as good but this is still my favorite ❤️❤️❤️

    Alexandrova is Gamzetti; brilliant graceful passionate intensity. Clearly a woman who can kill for "love"!

    Ottimo questo balletto che segue il filo d'una narratio convincente ed interpretata dalle protagoniste in proscenio con gradevole enfatizzazione commediale e capacità sensibile attoriale. MOLTO BRAVE.BIGHIN GIULIO RENZO

    Oooh, Alexandrova has a really evil Gamzatti! I am overly impressed.

    It was a great production with Nikolai Tsiskaridze as Solor from 2007 at Mariinsky. Great cast of 3.

      We get it! You love him! But that need you have to always talk about Tsiskaridze (who is not dancing in the scene we're watching) makes you the typical annoying fanatic.

    Wow! I can't believe this is the same production that I saw with Komleva and Terekhova. I wonder how old it really is! I DO love it like an old friend. The mime is excellent and is exactly the same to the "T" as used by the two dancers I have mentioned. I DO love how the tradition is kept alive while all the world falls apart in disarray.

    An exact copy of the traditional Kirov take - which means it is good! Loads of fun too. Things only get iffy when they try to 'improve' the great works.

      It's Chabukiani version after Petipa and very different than original which had 4 acts and ended with temple collapse and death of all characters during the wedding at the temple

    Cannot help but always dislike Nikiya as a homewrecker and an oathbreaker; always sorry for Gamzatti, why she is blamed for being rich and willing to fight for her love. I wish I had seen this performance alive, both ballerinas are a match made in heaven.

    • @BytomGirl
      @BytomGirl 5 років тому +4

      Actually, you got that reversed, Solor loved Nikiya before he even saw Gamzatti when her father ordered him to marry her, it's Nikiya who is the victim, she didn't brake any oath and was murdered by Gamzatti out of jealousy. Solor belonged to her, not Gamzatti who tried to buy him offering Nikiya a bracelet but Nikiya didn't want her bracelet, she wanted her beloved Solor. Are you really familiar with the whole libretto?

    • @ina268
      @ina268 5 років тому +2

      @@BytomGirl I know the plot, I just don't feel what I am told to feel by the libretto. In my view Solor is responsible for proposing to one woman while he is secretly having an affair with another one. Nikiya was devoted to serve her gods at the temple, she betrayed her calling for the sake of a mere mortal's love, but she hypocritically told off the Great Brahmin for playing the very same game, for soliciting her love. I know it sounds heretical, but unfortunately I cannot see Nikiya as a spotless good girl and Gamzatti as a pure evil, just my perception. A great work of art like this ballet is bound to be interpreted in many ways...

    • @BytomGirl
      @BytomGirl 5 років тому +3

      If you want to feel sorry for a selfish murderess who split two lovers and killed one of them that is your prerogative but don't change libretto saying Nikiya is home wrecker not sticking to her oath. No such thing happened. Don't confuse people who don't know the libretto. That is just making up a new story.

    • @ina268
      @ina268 5 років тому +5

      @@BytomGirl Nikiya, running with a knife after her love rival in order to stab her is no much better than everyone else, imo. Everyone is free to read the libretto, to see the ballet on their own (and every cast will tell a somewhat different story even in the same production), and have their own opinion. Don't worry, not only it's normal for an art work to be interpreted differently, most people watching this amazing excerpt are likely to be very familiar with the ballet.

    • @ina268
      @ina268 5 років тому +2

      @Ann Glad to find out I'm not alone with this unorthodox opinion. I guess most viewers don't see that by modern standards Nikiya actually is a more privileged of them two. Despite temple dancers were considered formally married to their god(s), with no technical opportunity to divorce their deity, devadasi were allowed to have relationships with men, free to choose their partners, free to have children from aristocrats and brahmins (no social stigma attached), free to earn their own livelihood by their respected trade (=a certain degree of economic independence). While Gamzatti, being a traditional girl in a patriarchal society, probably was limited to an arranged marriage only, not allowed to talk to or to see her groom before the actual wedding (apart from his portrait), not to mention no freedom of going on a date with him to get to know him. I, for one, wouldn't like to be in her shoes.

      Нуреев, ставя спектакль в Париже, не знал и не мог знать иных постановок, кроме версии Мариинского( Кировского) театра. Потому что все другие "версии" базируются на спектакле Мариинки.

    Zakharova is the greatest ballerina of all time, past and present. She is perfection. She has the technique, emotion, plasticity, legs and feet, body and of course a face to die for. She is great in all the work she did, including Don Quixote. She is a goddess and beyond human.
