EVERYONE VS THE WHITE WHALE!! - RE:Zero Episode 20 & 21 REACTION!
The anime doesn't explain it very well, but Theresia got a divine protection called "Sword Saint" which is a blessing tied to the van astrea bloodline. She never wanted to wield the sword, but suddenely got a gift that allowed her to master it instantly with no effort, therefore giving her the responsibility to go into war despite her wishes.
she had another blessing from birth before gaining the Sword Saint divine protection which really made her hate the sword
The anime doesn't go into the blessings thing idk why... I hope itd different in later season
Yeah. Theresia never liked to be the Master Swordman, thats why he said "with a face like that", and that's why Wilheim wanted to free her from that title.
And "face like that" had double implication, as in she expressed her displeasure when wielding the sword but also having a beautiful smile looking at the flower meadows.
should be noted that wilhelm was in fact pretty misogynistic actually. he does change significantly during his time with theresia but he was super disrespectful of women while also just being an ass to everyone in general.
thats why there are so many parallels with him and subaru. subaru was very much acting like a younger wilhelm, which is why wilhelm was looking out for him.
To make matters worse, in addition to the blessing of Sword Saint that came with her blood line, Theresia also had her own blessing of Death god. The wounds she made onto others would never heal - not naturally, not magically. Due to it she developed great aversion to causing harm to anyone even before inheriting the blessing of Sword Saint. This combination of blessings made her, though unwilling, the Reaper incarnate.
15:30 The common tradition in marriage is for the wife to take her husband's surname.
Because she is no longer part of her parents' family, but of her husband's family.
But when the wife's family is of a higher class than the husband's and especially when the wife is heir to the clan, the husband adopts her family's surname so that they have equal status.
Thus the husband takes on the responsibility.
I always took the "A face like that" line to mean she had a kind face, the face of someone who doesn't want to fight and kill rather than a beautiful face.
Rezero build up and pay off is the best of the best the just goosebumps it gives you seeing this grand momment coming to fruition is just elite
Yay, you finally made it to this moment. I always like to give a little bit of a language lesson when reactors get to this point, because there are some very touching implications hidden in the dialogue for Wilhelms triumphant "I Love You" scene.
The way to refere to yourself in Japanese is kinda complicated. There are different words you can use depending on how formal you want to be, your gender, age, etc. (this is very vibe based tho, not clear science). Due to his status as a butler, Wilhelm is a character that primarily uses "watashi" to refer to himself, a more gender neutral and "formal" way for a man to refer to himself. This is a stark contrast to the way the younger Wilhelm from the flashback talks, who primarily uses "Ore", a much more masculine first person pronoun used more commonly by younger men. Young Wilhelms speech also is much more "rude" than Old Man Wilhelm in general (using "Omae" to adress Theresia, a more "rude" way to say you than something like "anata").
In the "I love you scene", Wilhelm's dialogue goes as follows: " Theresia, watashi ha...Ore ha omae wo aishiteru!" (Theresia I... I love you!) - Wilhelm starts out with how he would normally talk, using "watashi ha", but then pauses and corrects himself with "Ore ha", followed by his younger self's way of adressing others "omae". Thogether with the context provided by the flashback right before this scene in which Theresia asks Wilhelm to say that he loves her but he refuses ("I'll tell you when I feel like it."), some very sad initerpretations of this scene are possible:
I personally read Wilhelm's "code switching" as him not having properly told his wife that he loved her before she died, so now he metaphorically reverts back to his younger self that was too shy/stubborn to profess his love for her to the heavens, something he in all likelihood failed to do before her death. Additionally, the word Wilhelm chose for LOVE ("aishiter") is the strongest word the Japanese language has for expressing your love, so much so that some may even die without saying it to anyone.
Love this episode to death, probably the best one in terms of direction in this season. Looking forward to experiencing the rest of your reactions to this story that means a lot to me :)
I honestly didnt think you guys would figure out the relation between Wilhelm and Reinhard most reactor don't notice at all
Early because of rezero the goat
11:38 Fun fact: The reason why Theresia lost to the White Whale was because during her fight, the Divine Protection of the Sword Saint was transferred to Reinhard mid battle. She lost her Sword Saint title along with its abilities, making her weaker in battle, resulting to her death. The author confirmed though, that even with her Divine Protection of the Sword Saint active, would still be unable to defeat the White Whale due to her having to look after her squad and protect them from the Whale's fog.
Cara and Prez keep trying to kill our boy Wilhelm XD stop it it wont happen!!🤣
btw this is not spoiler since they already finished the season on patreon
Wholesome old dudes always die😭😂
@@CaraPrezReacts Did you guys already watch the OVA Frozen Bond? Because the ova is canon and it's important for season 2
We're literally recording it tomorrow! Then onto S2🔥
@@CaraPrezReacts ohh that great, i hope you guys enjoy it
Cut Dialog from the anime
After the Battle
Subaru runs to find Rem shes unconscious
Subaru "No no no no not again Rem please wake you if you wake up ill marry you!!!"
Rem wakes up "Proposal accepted."
Theresia never wanted to wield a sword. She had the divine protection of the death god where any wounds caused by her would never heal. She had that together with the divine protection of the sword saint. She was a killing machine. She was afraid of even inflicting the lightest cuts whether with a sword or something like paper. She was also forced into a war at a very young age.
Theresia IS related to Reinhard.
She was his Grandmother. That would make Wilhelm his Grandfather.
You have always been #1 Rem
Who's Rem?
why did i honestly start watching your reactions from episode 16 i always start from the beginning
i must be getting lazy
You got some videos to catch up on😏
You could say that you are...truly slothful
The ending of episode 20 with that music is like the best cliff hanger ever
To give an idea of how much of a beast Wilhelm is, his wife was the master swordsman with a blessing. The Astrea family has a divine protection passed down that makes one person the absolute peak of swordsmanship. Wilhelm, being a normal dude from a normal family, completely surpassed that. He was the strongest swordsman in the entire world during his time, possibly one of the strongest people of his day.
Wilhelm at his peak was on par with Reinhardt, minus all the OP abilities but Im talking about pure swordsmanship. Reinhardt is still stronger in general.
Wilhelm basically became stronger than the sword god and defied fate by defeating his wife. Pretty baller
Also, just to point out. Wilhelm was misogynistic, his wife changed him however. He works for a woman now, respects her greatly as well! He was a little shit basically, theres a lot of comparisons to him and Subaru. Subaru also was kinda weird to women, wilhelm was very disrespectful. But they both changed their ways eventually. Wilhelm wasn’t being misogynistic here tho, Theresia just didn’t like fighting. Her face was sweet and unwilling to fight, thats why he pointed it out. He was humiliated cuz it was basically like someone stronger watching someone weaker “struggle”. If that makes sense
Missing all the OP abilities, prime Wilhelm is still thousands of times weaker than Reinhard, simply because of difference in physical capabilities, both strength and speed.
If we would compare them simply by skill of swinging sword, swordsmanship (which isn't really sufficient, because in comparison of powers, skills are unimportant compared to physical capabilities) - then there is also a huge gap between them. Prime Wilhelm's skill with swinging sword according to QnA is on par with Cecilus, who himself is way worse in that than Reinhard.
i really liked this upload time slot, perfect while taking a break..
I absolutely love Wilhelms backstory
I know its random but after Re zero yall should really consider reacting to “Link Click”. Its third season was recently announced and its easily a 10/10 for me and I’m sure yall will love it too!
Oh so close to season 2, the season so story dense they skipped op & ed for you & paid the channels so there'd be no ads. Also my most favorite opening of re0.
Crusch would make an awesome ruler.
Aside from the fact that her political idea is stupid to its 100% extent
@@ДенисБулдовский-и5шnot really, its pretty reasonable not to want to rely on the dragons contract. we dont even know the details of it or why it wants to protect lugunica. and it makes perfect sense why she of all people wants to remove it due to her past.
@@chelronin7843 the contract isn't the case of "why?", because contract is the thing that cannot be disobeyed, its the fact, constant, not the question that needs to be bothered with. Historically it's known that Farsale contracted heroic Dragon to protect nation and that its historical foundation of Lugunica's protection and authority. From this perspective there is zero reason to doubt pros of contract. The only reason for Crusch's ideology to exist is that "baaad Dragon didn't save her booooyfriend", so she'll literally remove one of the main reasons why Lugunica still exist. I mean, the contract with Volcanica is literally one of the only things that keeps Lugunica existing and not getting obliterated by other nations in like 10 minutes, well, aside from Reinhard who's the main world balance force to begin with. Ok, lets extrapolate her logic. According to RZ world ppl beliefs - Reinhard is on lvl near likes of Cecilus, Halibel and Adgard, so Crusch knows that too. Well, actually he's stronger than all of them together, but that's what we, readers know. But looking from Crusch perspective. She achieves throne, deletes contract with Volcanica, losing his protection. Then Vincent just sends Cecilus, and other members of Nine. What Crusch is gonna do? Cry about it? According to what she knows - Reinhard can stalemate Cecilus, so looking on situation - he'll stalemate, and others of Nine would simply obliterate nation in minutes, with aid of Crystal Palace shots turning three out of five main cities into dust. She says that they should rely on their power, not Dragons. Ok, woman, what are you going to so against 2-9 out of Nine Divine Generals while Cecilus is taking Reinhard's time? Third strongest nation's warrior for a long time was pre-arc 5 Julius, who in terms of fighting power was even weaker than weakest Divine General (though he barely won with help). What I'm trying to say is that Crusch's idea is stupid and based only on her personal resentment
Since you two are dipping your toes into the Isekai genre I hope you’ll eventually check out Konosuba: God’s Blessing on this Wonderful World. It has similarities to RE:Zero but it’s a comedy. It’s one of my all time favorites. There are two seasons, a movie, a spin off prequel series and the third season is ongoing.
21:05 😌,,,
I'm glad you guys are pro Rem in this season. She really carried the entirety of the second half of this season on her shoulders. I'm definitely with you on the Best Girl tier list.
Rem > Crusch > A character in season 2 > Emilia
That list doesn't change for me despite all that takes place in season 2. Been loving your reactions to this show so I'm looking forward to season 2.
For this season i get it, but after season 2? Nah for me Emilia>>> After season 2 and the OVA of course
Who is rem
