Both parts of Jason's story are "SHIT HOT!"
Loved hearing the raw stories showcasing the brutality war brings out. I find lots of vets telling their story barely scratch the surface. It's refreshing hearing a guy like Jason not hold back and just tells it how it is.

You should talk to Fred Galvin about that first MARSOC deployment if you haven't already. Those guys got thrown under the bus to appease the Iraqi government. It didn't help that the conventional Marine Corps didn't want that unit to exist.

Great episode, I love the no bullshit approach from both you and your guests, no sugar coating it, we were in the business of killing other men that wanted to kill you, and would in an instant, or worse like what those animals aka ISIS, IS K, etc….. who would make sure you felt as much fear and pain as they could inflict on you as well as citizens, it’s men like Jason, Shrek, DJ Shipley, Marcus and the seemingly endless list of names who make sure that the bad actors have short life spans and do not get the chance to bring their barbaric hatred of us to our soil, there is not enough thanks nor appreciation given to them, the silent professionals, it still amazes me how far advanced we have become since I served in the 80’s, thank you Jason, and you Ryan for bringing some of the experiences of those who lived it to light to have their stories told, and not be forgotten by time. I hope there is a part 3.

It's interesting how Buddhism has helped Jason with intentionality and peace. I haven't studied it closely, but ideas from Buddhism helped me deal with the sudden death of a loved one. Nothing is permanent. (Look into the far future of the universe and there will be a day when only photons are left.) Life is a constant rebuilding from things, small and big, breaking apart. It helped me get back into living when I accepted the struggle.

It would be interesting to hear about the proxy wars or skirmishes as Russia has used the Wagner group to fight Americans just as they use them now as in Ukraine as well as Africa. Great discussion to hear about Marsoc and its beginnings. I have been out of the military since 95 and so much has changed.

Once you see the under belly and the curtain is pulled back, it's a hard pill to swallow when you see that reality. Once you realize your principles, entire ethos/code lived by, sacrificed for is being abused. Then exploited by power hungry cowards looking too extract as much wealth as possible, its a hard one too move past.

The war in Iraq was very urban but the war in Afghanistan was mountain fighting. Which of course was in favor of the taliban. Even for being guys in turbans with akms they have taken on the world's best militaries. Thats pretty admirable. I dont like them or their ideology but i commend their will.

Not started yet, ads are running. Just wanted to let you know Ryan... no notification for this video from UA-cam. Now I don't hit the bell option, that's way TOO much notification! I'm subbed to far too many channels and have too many devices to ever want each one to go nuts 24 hours a day, mostly through the damn night, to want that annoyance. (TV, mobile, tablet and laptop = way too many device notifications to listen to and have to clear well over a dozen times per day each, sheeesh)
But I usually get two more polite and less intrusive ways to check for any new uploads when I open up the UA-cam app. Yours would always be in there. But not this one. I searched for it and found it, but thought you should know that this was happening. Algorithm bs. Heads up.

I am 77 and I am not a veteran. I offered the Army myself as a medic. I had angered the Captain--shrink at my pre-induction physical. The Navy was just down the hall and I went there offering myself, but to be a corpsman attached to the USMC. Yes, I was a CO, but also had some history of serious bodily injury in H.S.; I have never figured out why my "offer of the blank check. I had made it clear that if I was treating a wounded soldier/marine, I could kill to protect my patient. I was a skilled woodsman, a fine tracker and already had the essential skills in medical treatment. I am still a truly expert marksman. I wish I could personally speak with you, Mr. Fugit.

I lived on the Atlantic Coast, having grown up in Colorado. The native Floridians were crazy. When they would evacuate for a hurricane, they would start at the beach, moved everybody over the Intercoastal Waterway, then raise all the drawbridges to prevent anybody from returning. The locals would prepare by holing up in a two story with plenty of food and water and booze. Tape up the glass to keep windows from blowing glass in, and call it it a Hurricane Party.

We never loose the desire to be alphas once alphas. The military is one of the very few places, especially within top level tiers, focused, operational units such as special forces units. The thought of giving in or giving up, seeing those who settle for less in life, missing action, growing old, and not taking your chances are all thoughts I believe older guys feel and at some point think when coming back or like many working for the agencies. Age is one battle we all face and fend off yet never master but like a wave learn to ride out with style and grace. Love the content gents. I see the eyes light up when thinking back. Some may say, "how can you want to go back after all that or take anything good from it". Well, sometimes bad is good and good is bad and it all can be a major driving force that when shaped and directed can be an ultimate weapon against evil and to protect others. I also wanted to add that a malnourished coyotes is to date the most accurate description for that country of men. Bravo.

You need repetition and competition to spawn new ideas methods and to innovate. These things can play into combat as well, not even talking from experience, but there MUST be examples of operators learning from athletes, and vice versa, this guy ignores that development opportunity and experimental environment
