    GM should have started this with the C4!! The huge clamshell hood traps a ton of heat!!

    I have a C6 Corvette and kudos to you for cutting the hood. I often thought of modifying mine, but I wouldn't dare.

      Thank you. When I was getting ready to drill the pilot holes, I definitely stood there staring at the hood, holding the drill thinking "You know, I don't have to do this..." lol

    I have yet to find the courage to cut my hood, but as with any C5 it definitely could use the help. I put a different brand of hood vents in a past Mustang and it ran 20 degrees cooler most days.
    My biggest complaint is that it doesn't stop rain or dirt from above. I have a bad idea to 3D print a functional vent with the blades able to close when not needed. It could open based on a switch or some kind of a thermostat.
    I know the C7 had a hood vent, but it doesn't vent enough. It does look good when added to a C5 hood though.
    Glad you got it on and it will definitely help when pushing the car at events.

      That's actually not a bad idea. You could even run it off of vacuum. They used to do that on the Chevelle. It was a really cool idea.

    Great job, have you noticed cooler temperatures and improved handling?

    • @ChaseFarrow
      @ChaseFarrow  7 місяців тому

      Yes on all fronts. The car is way flatter at 120mph+ because the air isn't getting trapped inside the engine bay anymore.
      In addition, hot air is actually able to escape now, which makes life much easier on the track.
      One of my favorite things is that, when I pull into my garage after a drive, I can physically see all of the heat that would have normally been trapped in the engine bay radiating out of the vent.

    How far from the leading edge of the hood did you install it? Looks a bit further back than their recommended 17"

      I don't remember the exact number off the top of my head, but I measured based on their instructions.

      I went ahead and looked for some pictures. I found one of a blue C5 on their website where it's definitely way further forward than mine, but then I also found a silver one and a white one where they're in the exact same spot as mine.

      @CheesePatrol Dude, it's nerve-racking as hell, but it does definitely help. The one downside that I've noticed about it since doing mine is that you definitely hear a lot more of the LS's already noisy valvetrain.

    Does the hood feel flimsy or weak after the vent?

    • @ChaseFarrow
      @ChaseFarrow  8 місяців тому +1

      Not at all.
      That being said, if you're considering this mod, remember, you will have what amounts to a giant hole in your hood, so weather will be somewhat of a factor. If I'm honest, for the street, I recommend the slightly smaller vent from Trackspec.

      @@ChaseFarrow thanks, good to hear. Not super concerned with weather but I might try to make a shield of some sort, she's mostly to and from the track.

      @@colemcmeans7809 I have also been told that it's not legal for certain series like Spec Corvette, but outside of that, it's perfect for tracking.
