Banish Misfortune (Practice Playalong) Getting Faster Gradually

- In this video you can practice playing along with the Jig Banish Misfortune in D mixolydian. As always the tune is played through several times, each time a little faster. Although primarily designed with fiddle playing in mind, these playalongs can be used with any instrument. This is a good tune for practicing relaxed up and down bowing and crisp finger movement. The fiddlers way is a channel designed to help you learn the sorts of tunes that get played at sessions, and practice getting them up to approximately session speed.

Wow!! I surprised myself and got to the end and didn't fall apart!!! For me, playing it slow then faster and faster totally WORKS! Thanks!!!!!
Well done on reaching the end of the video, great to hear that the format is working for you! The more times you do it, the easier it will become! 😊
Brilliant format. I've been struggling to get my head round the rhythms of this one, and this really helps. Thanks so much.

You’re welcome! Hope to be posting more soon!
Beautifully played as always ❤🙏👏👏
Thank you very much! :)
I love to pick this tune on my guitar and mandolin. This is a great practice tape!!
Great, good to hear you are enjoying playing along on your guitar and mandolin! :)
Very helpful! Great practice approach. I've been learning this tune on harmonica and I can finally now do it up to proper tempo. Thank you!
Thanks for the comment Dennis, happy to hear you’re finding this video helpful for your harmonica playing!
Not only is this approach to instruction / learning helfpful, but the written music for this song here is a bit different from that which I've been using in "The Fiddler's Fakebook" which is based primarily on a string of six 8th notes, and THIS version is helpful to highlight what's likely a type of Irish / Jig "lilt," which is created not only by the syncopated rhythm but also the slurs that are shown. Thank you as this is VERY helpful to mastering this beautiful song!
Hi Richard, thank you for the comment, this is very useful. I’ve had a bit of a break from the channel, but I’m getting back to making videos again now. Wonder if there’s any tunes you’d particularly like to see? This year I’m planning to make some more in depth courses, so if that would be of any interest please keep an eye out :)
Thanks!
My pleasure - and thank you! 🙏
