    www.horsetrainingvideos.com/f... In this video, Larry Trocha trains a green colt (filly) on a cow. She’s only had a few rides so the training must be done carefully so her foundation is correct. This is the beginning stages of training a cutting horse on cattle… also reined cow horses and ranch sorting horses.
    In this video, Larry Trocha is training a horse to slow down at the lope. This method he demonstrates (reverse arc with shoulder control) works well for reining horses and reined cow horses as well as trail horses.
    The above video is a short, edited clip taken from my online training course titled, “Cutting Horse Know How”:
    The course is designed to teach how to ride, train, tune and show a cutting horse.

    My neighbor has a mare which he uses not very often herding cows with dogs. She previously was used as a trail horse ridden around with children. After a few herding the cattle the mare will not let him catch her. She is in loose in about a 6 acre field with no other horses. When he tries to chase her she appears to be very scared and he is not able to catch her. Of course she is learning that she knows how to avoid getting caught. I can get her but she is very cautious in getting to me at times but she will eventually let me get the lead rope on her. I walk her around, brushing her, or just talk with her and release her . I did get her one time and rode her gently around the field mostly walking and once in awhile trotting her for about an hour giving her a lot of praises and rubs. She rode very relaxed and was fantastic with using body aids. I really did not have to use the reins to turn or stop. He began to ask me to catch her for him so he could work her. Each time she comes back very hot and sweaty and then she gets again very cautious and does not want me to get any closer to her about 5 feet from her. I do not try to catch her and begin to gain her trust. Sometimes it can take a week before she is comfortable to come to me. He swears he does not work her hard or beat her. She is very scared of him. I am trying to get him to let me buy her from him and have told him since the last ride he used her I am not able to get her for him. I feel like I am giving her to a predator and it really upsets me. He appears to treat her like a machine and not an animal. I have even suggested to him she is on the lazy side and is not up to being a cow horse and it might be the best interest to sell her to me and buy a younger horse that enjoys working with cattle. I did pay to have her feet done and suggested to him she needs her teeth floated and maybe that could be some of her problems. But after I rode her she had no issues in me getting her to come to me. Can a horse not want to be caught due to she just does not like to work with cattle and just enjoy being a trail horse? I really like this horse and feel we have a special bond with each other. I had to put my mare down about 3 months ago due to she had cancer so I have gotten attached to her. I feel like she is being abused with the way he treats her. I feel the horse is telling me she is unable to do what he asks of her. I have tried to suggest to him that he should work with her in rewards and not just to work. Am I wrong and if so why is she acting this way? He keeps a halter on all the time and when he had caught her previously he would put a hobble on on leg while she was in the cattle trailer.and with a heavy piece of chain about 20” long. He said he did it so when he tried to catch her when she steps on it and it makes her not able to run or it gets hooked up in trees or bushes. She is about 13 years old.

    Thank you for sharing your valuable knowledge with us Mr Trocha, I’ve picked up more from watching your videos than I manage to pick up from instructors in person and it’s been a great help to me over the past few years in my chosen sport of campdrafting, I came upon your channel when I was having trouble with a young horse, shortly after learning some of your methods I began to make finals and run money with him, so for that I am very grateful.

    Looks fun to ride, and she can put on the brakes smartly when she wants. As you said, good prospect!

    Hi Larry, thanks for the great videos, I have a filly at the same stage as this one, I have a mechanical cow/flag.. should I start her on that first.. she has seen cattle before but not worked them?

    • @ltrocha
      @ltrocha  2 роки тому +1

      Hi Jessica, I have mixed feelings about that and have done it both ways. I prefer to follow and turn with a slow cow several times before introducing the flag. However, I don't think there is a black and white right or wrong way.

    What is the white string tie-down used for? I've seen some reiners use them too.

    • @mrschocolate87
      @mrschocolate87 2 роки тому +1

      This is a German Martingale. Used to show the horse a nice head position. He my used it here, cause the filly isn’t that broke yet, as he said. Other way she’d always came up with her head when and lost shoulder control to, when taking the reins. So you use this to not ruin, what you installed so nice bevor. May you watch the other videos of Larry. In one he’s explaining the use of this tiny white strings, think, way better than me.
      Enjoy it.

      Hi Roan, That training aid is not a tie-down... it's a German martingale. I have other videos which explain it's uses and adjustment.

    Will you continue to train? Or there’s a time to just get her more broke before continuing to train?

    • @ltrocha
      @ltrocha  2 роки тому +3

      Hi Xavier, I'll get her better broke at the same time I'm working cattle. I prefer doing it that way because the horse is so occupied with the cow, they don't even realize they're being trained. Very stress-free way of doing it.

    In this video, the filly is being ridden in a smooth o-ring snaffle bit with a loosely adjusted german martingale.
