- March of the Princesses, from Jules Massenet’s opera “Cinderella” was premiered in May of 1899. The opera tells the familiar story of Cinderella, and this piece was written for a ballet scene in Act II, as the procession of the princesses enters the Royal Hall to be presented to young Prince Charming. During the scene, a heavenly unknown beauty (Cinderella) enters and the prince and Cinderella fall in love at first sight. Suddenly the clock strikes midnight and Cinderella runs off, as the stunned prince looks on, loosing one of her glass slippers in the process.
The opera’s first performance was an instant success and this arrangement by Fred Junkin maintains the lightness of the orchestral score, and uses a great sonority of the full band in the tutti sections.
The Oklahoma City Symphonic Band is under the direction of Dr. Mark G. Belcik.
