Vignettes from Life - Ed Huckeby
Vignettes From Life was commissioned by the Oklahoma Music Educators Association for the 2023 OMEA All-State Symphonic Band, Dr. Rodney Dorsey, Guest Conductor, in recognition of State Director Jerry Huffer’s retirement. Dr. Ed Huckeby has created a programmatic work which depicts a series of life scenes conveyed through creative musical imagery. Listeners and performers are encouraged to allow their imaginations to lead them on a journey through the past (or future) as the music unfolds in this sequence of inventive musical vignettes, each depicting various stages in life.

The Oklahoma City Symphonic Band is under the direction of Dr. Mark G. Belcik.
We recently had the pleasure of welcoming Dr. Ed Huckeby to work with our band and conduct a performance of some of his music. We were also privileged to celebrate our conductor of over 20 years, Dr. Mark G. Belcik, as he conducted music composed by Nicole Piunno, and a great American classic piece for wind ensemble, Morton Gould’s “American Salute”, which featured our double reed section. And as is our tradition, we ended with a Sousa march “The Invincible Eagle”.

Vanity Fair - Percy Fletcher, edited by Brant Karrick
Переглядів 2316 годин тому
Vanity Fair is a concise and refreshing overture that is a wonderful example of Fletcher’s light melodic style and first-rate scoring. Described by the composer as “a comedy overture in which several characters from Thackeray’s novel are portrayed,” the fast-slow-fast, single-movement form includes three main thematic ideas. The opening vivace section features a vigorously energetic melody that...

American Salute - Morton Gould, transcribed by Philip J. Lang
Переглядів 5116 годин тому
Originally written for orchestra, American Salute has become a favorite of the concert band repertoire. Using the familiar tune When Johnny Comes Marching Home as the sole melodic resource, Morton Gould demonstrates his skill in thematic development, creating a brilliant fantasy on a single tune. Written in 1942 in the early days of World War II, it was composed at the request of a government r...

This dramatic concert fanfare was commissioned by the El Dorado Municipal Band in Kansas to commemorate its 100th consecutive concert season in 2022. The title Freedom Flight was inspired by the emotional and dramatic fl...
The Invincible Eagle - John Philip Sousa
Переглядів 2816 годин тому
The Invincible Eagle, was composed in 1901 during a train ride between Buffalo and New York. The march was dedicated to the Pan-American Exposition, held in Buffalo in the summer of 1901. At first Sousa thought “The Invincible Eagle” would surpass “The Stars and Stripes Forever” as a patriotic march, although he nearly entitled it “Spirit of Niagara.” The Oklahoma City Symphonic Band is under t...

So I fall apart, put myself together, and am then broken all over again.” One of the most emotional and powerful pieces Balmages has ever written, there are moments of untamed beau...

I can see the Peabody ducks marching 🎉🎉🎉
Is the best I ever heard before. I liked so much every day and still hearing for the entire eternity🇵🇦
3:28 Start of Tuba Excerpt
The Military Two Step is danced to this. Very fetching to see.
There actually are pros and cons in everything... My honest and straight-forward impression is that I like Orange Devils' play far better than this OCSB. I heard some out-of-tune sounds (noise, actually) in OCSB's play and overall sound does not let me imagine the song is about "His Honor." The play by Orange Devils on the other hand does give me strong impression enough to imagine it is about "His Honor" with definite strength, vivid accent and power in their play.
played this as a closing piece at my last high school band concert
This was an honor to premiere
This song was covered by a Japanese band of high school students called OrangeDevil. I came to hear how other bands performed, but as expected, professional bands are amazing. Sorry for comparing them to high school students. 日本のOrangeDevilという高校生のバンドがこの曲を取り上げました。 他のバンドがどういう演奏をしてるのか聴きに来たのですが、 やはり、プロのバンドは素晴らしいですね。 高校生と比較してごめんなさい。
Music for the mind and hearth.
Its all fun in games until you actually play it. 🙂
Ain't that something
So lovely ❤

SLAYER
Una de mis marchas predilectas de este gran compositor marcial estadounidense, como fue John Philip Sousa. Todo un clásico en la extensión de la palabra.
FINALLY. A conductor who understands the final four measures. Great performance!
played with technical expertise AND feeling. and a by-god "blues on the oboe" part!
I've noticed recently that Erin is the best oboe player in this band 1:19 Just thought I'd share
First lol
wow!!
Very nice job. We just played it tonight (12-10 2018) and I was the English horn player. Greetings and best wishes from the Lincoln Community Concert Band , Lincoln NE.
Lebo25 Thank you for your comments. I was the EH player on the video and it’s nice to hear from a colleague. It is a great solo part.
@@OklahomaCitySymphonicBand It is indeed a fine solo part. Another piece of Dr Reed's. the Armeinan Dances also has lovely English horn work in both the !st part and the second part. The second is less well known but has the best Eh part. If you've never played either you're in for a real treat. Hope you have or get the chance. He did write nicely for our Instrument.. Also nice to meet another Eh player. Not many of us. For many years I was both oboe and Eh as needed but had to give up the oboe in 2009 to an arthritic hand problem. So glad it did not affect my Eh playing. I'm mostly retired now but still do play Eh parts when asked. It was my main instrument in college.
SSSLLLAAAYYYEEEERRRRRDD
Fine sounding group.
Playing that Trumpet solo makes me happy
