Truth needs to be told, Agbaletu programme has moved from a mere social or entertainment programme, but has moved to a serious academic one. 80% of discussion today was based on academic understanding of music in general. Many thanks to the guest - Alhaji Sulaiman Adegbenro for sharing his wealth of knowledge with us. May God continue increasing him with more knowledge and understanding. In respect of Tope Nautical whose religion was questioned by the host- Mr. Dele Adeyanju, the simple answer to it is this: Mr. Tope AbdulRaheem Nautical is a Muslim.
My utmost respect to Mr Sulaiman (consoligbadun) it takes a lot of wisdom to dissect issues like this calmly and particularly politely. I didn’t agree with your guest, Femi Sanya saying Juju has no structure but I don’t know enough to hold my divergent opinion. However your guest today broke it down excellently. This is an academic interview and only someone willing to learn will appreciate this. Kudos as always Mr Agbaletu.
You have just nailed the point correctly and thank you for this contribution. That chap saying juju music has no structure seems to be talking juvenile. He may not know the meaning of "composition and rehasals" in music. If he was alive in the 60s or early 70s, he would have understood that no recording studio has ever released any juju musician's songs without stating in the very album how the music is arranged, mixed and composed. How do you then define what "structure" is ? In fact, I did struggle to watch that interview to the end because the moment I started listening to his gobbledygook of "this is what we call it in America," was the time I knew elebira (labourer) AGBALETU ti si alejo gba. Second base abeggiii !!
Let's called a spade, a spade. Kulu li ako wala kana mura. Alhaji Sulaimon Adegbenro, you should try to tell this guy a bitter truth, he is ego centric in nature. Empty barrel make a loud noise. Aare Dr. Sikiru Ayinde barrister is the fuji prophet, whether they like it or not. Oku aja re nje eko ju aaye lo. O wu ago ala ko mole bi osupa, sugbon Olorun oba koni gba fun laelae. Aponle kan kosi fun malu, ti erin ba jade Sita. Jazakumullahu khaeran Alhaji. More power to your elbow. Agbaletu tv.
Mr Sulaimon has an in depth knowledge about Nigerian music and artiste so if anybody just come here all in the name of fanship I believe he or she doesn’t want to learn.
In fact, this man is well grounded in music. This interview is full of knowledge. Agbaletu and Alh. Sulaimon( Konsoligbadun), God continue to enrich you both. Amin!
Thank you Agbaletu for bringing an enlightened musicologist to educate us about the history and style of different music in Nigeria. This informative and entertaining
Sincerely, I really appreciate Agbalate for this program and Mr Sulaiman Consoligbadun for his immense knowledge, educative and enlightenment on so many aspects of our music.God bless both of you .
I have known suluman alias Konsoligbadun for his intelligence in academic , Islamic and Yoruba culture knowledge. All these combinations make him an impact on all of us who watched this program today and kudos to Dele adeyanju who is also ready to drink from his fountain of knowledge today. He's deeply religious but not a fanatic. Well done both
Agbaletu, I really like your program due to the way you ask questions.. The question you ask about Muslim sing Fuji while Christian sings JuJu is just a simple answer.. The way I look it is that Fuji music is familiar with " Muslim songs like Wéré and wákà partern " but JuJu also entertain Christian songs a lot.. thanks
Agbaletu, thank you so much for bringing this topic concerning APALA may you continue to grow in wisdom and understanding. However, in my opinion i will rather love APALA to remain in its originality than incorporating with the likes of piano or guitar and the rest. Furthermore APALA can never die as suggested by your guest without inclusion of western instruments. However, APALA is a kind of music that will continue to be relevant from generations to generations because you will start to understand APALA music at a particular stage of your life, that's what APALA stand for. Mr. Iyanda from Lagos
Mr Sulaimon is very very good I thought he will failed that question about Sunny T but he passed it with distinction! Sunny T used K1 styles , delivery and even his name at some points
What an insightful interview with Alhaji Adegbenro... It seems they have worked with Radio Nigeria(Amuludun Radio and Premier FM) and Space FM at Ibadan before coz the voice sound familiar on radio 📻. Agbaman, thanks greatly for this piece sir.
Kollington Ayinla brought gangan to fuji and other Fuji artists disowned him has fuji singer, they said he is Apala but to their surprise Barry started using Apala.
Thank you Baba Suleiman Adegbenro, respect Sir! When that boy made that silly statement, expected Agbaletu to give him "Igbaju Olooyi" lol. But he has redeemed his image by bringing you to address this matter. Well done Dele Adeyanju.
Babatunde King was universally believed to be the creator of Juju music. But was not the first to release record. Irewolede Denge was the first Juju act to release record in 1929. Followed by Abibu Oluwa (Sakara creator) in 1930.😢
I still look forward to seeing you do an extensive show on General Kollington Ayinla bcos that man's contribution to the development of fuji cannot be underrated.
Rasheed Ayinde did the same with Sina Peter's album in of his live playBarrister always do that in live play he can switch from sk Aka to Obesere dépendes on the mood of the audience
Thank you , Mr Suliamon. Even Shina Akanni has said it in many interviews that, all of them singing Fuji music this day are singing K1 style than SAB style.
Mr. Dele, this is not an interview but a lecture in technicalities of juju and Fuji. Thanks to your guest. It is very relatable and consistence with experiences of anyone who followed the two genres of Afro Music. K1 and Ayuba did not just only change the speed and instruments in fuji, they also changed the acceptability of fuji to make its followership to be more cosmopolitan and transcend boundaries, up to the clothing styles! The Albums that did the breakaway were Bubbles and American Tips/Fuji Collection. I think K1 must have gotten some influences from SSP directly or indirectly. K1 must have seen his works on ACE because ACE came a year or months prior. I also would say Kollington is not given his due regard. His works on Fuji megastar and Ijo yoyo was definitive and special moment for an older Fuji musician to evolve. SAB did not change his style around when Kollington and K1 did. He stayed to his style and depth. I relate it to how IK Dairo stayed to his style even in the face of KSA and Obey. But SAB is the progenitor of Fuji that we all enjoy now. After SAB, no one has influenced Fuji like K1. I don't dwell on a musician's personality but achievements and influence. What the current crop of musicians should be doing is trying to take works of fuji further and not let it go down like the state of Juju is at the moment instead of being busied with squabbles. k1 has done his best and still have his influences. KSO and Pasuma now have the baton, they can't take it further doing these "sabe and Anubi" melodrama. I see it as a play act for their bases. Kudos to all you do and best wishes to you and your crew always.
Wow! That means Kollington Ayinla is a greater contributor to Fuji revolution. Kudos, sir. Why this Kollington Ayinla's keyboard and Bata's introduction into Fuji has not been said all this while?
Alh, suraju Alamu Akere (saura), was the first to sing saje (lewd /vulgar songs). Then lateef llori & musibau Alani followed. Thereafter, Obesere came on board.
Melismatic music is a style of singing where a singer stretches out a syllable to fit multiple notes. The word "melismatic" comes from the Greek word mélisma, which means "song" or "tune"
1:30:58 don't mind that egbon. JuJu album can never be done without series of practices but there are numerous Fuji Album without a single practice. Ayinde Barrister is a typical example JuJu is much more structured than Fuji anyday anytime
On the issue of Pasuma, you are biased, Pasuma copied Shina Akanni, Wasiu, Obesere too but his baritone voice makes the difference. You are right on Ayuba nd to some extent Wasiu, but one person cannot be Anobi nd saabe ,KSO has said there are many Anobi nd he listed so much including some you mentioned. Sunny T was more of KI, before la campaigne, pasuma sang at stadium hotel nd Obesere often gave him mic, he has started well B4 ki introduced him at his show in Ikeja then, infact Pasuma's first album, Obesere was the guest artist. I was there at isolo. On Asakasa, you are on point. Sawura, ilori, etc
Not that SAB's music is only simple to sing but lyrics that is embedded in wisdom is not easy to discard not the one that is filled with abusive words. Fatai Alao is or was so close with Kolly.
The erudite musician methodologist and expert need to come for a second section please! He need to talk ore about the structures and forms in Yoruba music. In all honesty, the issue of who senior who is of very little value.
Fuji is always a vocal genre, not instrumental. It can be sung to any instrumental genres, including hip-hop, reggae, and other forms of instrumental music. What defines your singing as Fuji is the vocal prowess you bring to it. Although there is a percussion style or expression that is primarily Fuji, it is the vocals that mainly define music as Fuji.
My Sulaiman deserves to be honored with MON..Kudos sir.

This Music Sage Has Completed Me with his knowledge and analysis
Please kindly bring King Saheed Osupa to the Programme Mr Dele
Nice interview. Concerning Afrobeat i guess you are talking about Tony Allen.
Babatunde King was universally believed to be the creator of Juju music. But was not the first to release record. Irewolede Denge was the first Juju act to release record in 1929. Followed by Abibu Oluwa (Sakara creator) in 1930.😢

Thank you , Mr Suliamon. Even Shina Akanni has said it in many interviews that, all of them singing Fuji music this day are singing K1 style than SAB style.

Love Azeez l'agege was once late SAB's band boy, in an interview he said he spent 5 years with him in😢😢😢😢😢😢😢
Love azeez lagege was senior to SAB by 3 yrs. But he served in SAB's band for 5 yrs, according to him
