thx mate, been a very busy/ difficult start to the year, getting on top of things now, and i got someone to hold the camera again : ) only iPhone, but better than no vids.. : ) L
wow. I was leaning towards the motop, but after seeing the upgrades you are working on, I'm firmly in the wildlands court. Well done Drifta on the excellent mods and specifically explaining how to put your tent on a rhino rack platform. Point of difference. Now I can't wait to get one. And its a Yes vote from me for including the roof racks. I just need to be able to take them off in case the setup is too high to get into my apartment's garage!
thanks mate : ) yeah, all these recent vids just filmed on my iPhone, kaito not around anymore, doing his own things, so Darunee is filming now, and neither of us can work the big camera : ) wind noise is the issue, so i got a dead cat mike plugs into the iPhone, but when i held it, it's pointed away from me, must be directional also.. i'll have to keep that in mind next time... : ) L
Enjoyed watching you give time & respect to the little woofer mate, you have really thought through this RTT as a product that you decided to sell mate
I now snow is something folks in AU do not need to worry about much. But taking into account that those kinds of "florless" tents are also avilable in places where heavy snowfall is a possibility. Am I wrong in thinking that this design would be very problematinc during snow fall ? After a night with falling snow this tent would be impossible to close without some heavy cleaning and maintenace. Unlike tents that have fixed floors and the tent material is wrapped around the shell completly.
I have the ocam electric rtt and they have a terrible mattress. It had a similar hard piece/ soft piece as the one you were showing in the vid. I ended up cutting my kings swag mattress to size and replacing the soft piece. Thank God it fit into the mattress cover. Ita now comfortable and I can sleep in it but this tent looks way better because of the mattress, size, roof racks and so much more. I can see that youve put real thought into this. I'll be selling mine soon and getting one of these but with the more comfortable mattress.
OK. Now I just need to rob a bank somewhere. God, last I watched Drifta was for my bike touring adv reference. Now I'm building an overland truck and their product is top level.
Been watching these closely since they were announced. Ticks a lot of boxes for low weight, low profile, and not crazy expensive like some rtt's. The new mattress looks the goods! My concern would be how much space do you have for a sleeping bag to be left in there. I use a thick oztrail cotton canvas mega which are pretty thick. Maybe worth working out the ideal bedding to use with the new style mattress . . . . . Looking to get one when I have the $$$ 👍👌
Love the way you support Australian made Luke and I recommend Drifta whenever I can. I'd buy a Drifta shirt like the one you're wearing if you decided to market them.. without 'Luke' on it though! (nothing personal!)
I do like this tent the only thing I think will happen is in time whatever you have on top of the floor weather it's just the mattress or the ply it will eventually wear through the material. It should have a hard floor. And also not having a hard floor might make it lighter but it hasn't reduced the cost it's up there still with the others.
Thanks Luke, I ordered the 1.4 on the weekend and I have the rhino flat rack. Got 2 weeks holidays mid October, fingers crossed it can make it to Brissy by then! Ps, James in your Gosford store has been fantastic 🙌
Looking good Luke, keep the improvements coming :) Have you noticed any difference in temperature with the black roof and black outer-fly compared to the original alu/orange? I'd love to fit my exped megamat duo (197cm L x 130cm W), I think the 1.4 with 3mm ply would work well.
I *really* want one of these RTTs - but I need to get two adults into it. The 1300 looks small with only you sitting in it, and I think the 1500 version might look a bit ridiculous on top of my Hilux :( Argh.
Hey guys, I've just bought one of your tents and I want to move the aluminium extrusion rail further out to fit my rails. Is it possible to disconnect and lift away the inner material under the matrests so I can drill new holes? I've had a good look at it and it looks like the material is riveted into a retainer in the side of the aluminium frame and cannot be disconnected. I could try drilling from the underneath but it wouldn't work so well because the box section rails are closed so ideally a larger hole on the top side would be good but this requires removal of material. Any help would be massively appreciate as tomorrow I will probably start on this some how.
Can i relocate rails closer or wider as i cannot fit it on my cabin rhino backbone platform not on canopy crossbars as rails sitting on legs of bars ? Predrilled holes distance on rails also not enough for fitting. Thanks
Really appreciate your insight, honesty and constant improvements to your products. However for the minimal cost why not just include the nyloc nut and washer in tent purchase.
Hi Luke, I have preordered the 1.2 version for pickup mid-October. I did not opt for a set of the roof racks but have noticed in the video you mentioned you will now be including them in the sale price... Will customers who already purchased without roof racks be eligible for a set?
hi mate, when the racks are included , the price will go up to reflect this.. i haven't done this yet, as i don't have enough racks just now.. so , will do in the future.. if you want to order racks, you can do so still.. i'm actually still in two minds, if we include or not.. lets see.. : ) L
Just want to confirm that the rail underneath is 30mm? Other spots on your website say it is 20mm? Also, what is the overall extra height of the additional racks? I have about 50mm in total to play with before I have to consider getting the garage door guy into to reconfigure my shed so every mm counts. Thanks in advance
arh ok, yeah it's 30 mm, i'll let jake know.. roof rack, is adjustable, it's 30 mm also, sits at it's lowest 10 mm above the roof, so 40 mm min for the roof rack.. but i got mine sitting about 40 mm up, so it clears the solar panel.. : ) L
Can you close this with a thick sleeping bag and pillows inside? Will the seal be good enough to keep dust and water out with sleeping bag and pillows inside?
not pillows, but sleeping bag yes.. but would suggest extra overcenter latch in the middle, to help keep closed.. I just filmed a vid on this, up tonight hopefully, but show this.. L
Hey Luke. I'm a heavy bloke at 130kg's, how will these slats hold up to me crawling around In there? Also, I have a Pod trailer from Stockman and I want to climb In and out from the end (like your old WUHT system), would that work ok? Cheers :)
Great video Luke. I also have a 76 and am in the market for a RTT and am trying to keep the height to a minimum to fit in my carport of my apartment block. What’s the lowest height roof rack and mounts you can buy or manufacture to assist? Or can you easily get the tent on and off your rack at home?
Just wondering have you had any issues with the red dust entering through the floor were the water drains?I have traveled a lot of red dusty roads and it seams to get in everywhere.Do you think this tent is dust proof as i am looking to buy one.? Thanks Terry
i think it's much the same, i sold many ikampers for a few years.. ik have tho a importer, state distributor, stockist and reseller sales structure.. that's why they are so expensive.. we buy direct from the manufacturer, and sell direct to the customer.. it's a different tent tho to the ik.. ik opens up bigger, but has no roof space for storage.. L
email retail@drifta.com.au your deliver address. they can quote you up the freight... will not be cheap as it needs to be shipped via DHL.. (over 1m long)
Hi, can you guys help me with something about this roof tent. I unscrew the bolts at the hinge (with the tent closed), but I didnt realizad that the same mechanism that makes the tent open made the top and the bottom separate, and now i cant get them together to put the bolts in the hinge area again. Please, i would appreciate if you can contact and help me. Thanks!
yeah, good point, we were a little worried at first, but, i've been thru heavy rain, no probs, and kaito has driven in convoy thru thousands of km's lately up the tele track, LOT of bull dust, which normally gets into everything, none inside.. same for shauno' truck and the DMW vehicle.. so 3 RTT's went to the tip and back few weeks ago.. no dust issues.. so think that's a pass.. : ) L
Luke, I can't make out what the 3.7mm plywood is that you use for the floor. Can someone please tell me what it is? Tried to google it, but I think I have it completely wrong. :)
My wife and I sleep on a slat bed so not really an issue for us but for those who want more comfort how about just adding a couple more slats across the board so they are closer together. Won’t add hardly any weight I wouldn’t think. Great looking product BTW 👍
Chris Turner the trouble with full floors are they add too much weight and that I think is the beauty of this tent is that it’s so light. Weight up high when you’re rocking and rolling is a recipe for disaster IMO
I know your pushing a new product but the RTT is a pain when camping. I much prefer to have a camper trailer or ground tent to enable me to leave camp and explore without having to pack up every time and thus lose my camp spot. Not to mention having 50+ kg on the roof.

Hi. Great video! Any recommendations for adding a security bolt or clamp to prevent theft of the tent?
Hey mate, great clip, very informative. Very happy with ours mate👍
Brent Wall awesome mate : )
easiest solution for the mattress would be to make a new cover for the original mattress to accommodate a 20mm topper
love the roof top tent, I'm thinking of upgrading from the kings i currently own. cheers for the product update.
