6:16 you know thats a snow shovel They make scoops that hold twice as much gravel. 6x6 post was overkill. But ok! The way you removed the fence and had truck access, i belive i would have made a forms for concrete pad and not dug as deep. Or it could have rested on post and blocks. The speed square, not accurate with that distance. Use the 3' 4' 5' triangle method or measure corner to corner fastest way. Ill watch ya just the same. Just looking for ideas how I want to do it. My shed will be much larger.
I don’t live in a high-wind location and didn’t feel the need to use them. Plus, I added so much weight to my shed that I’m pretty confident that it’s not going anywhere.
my snow shovel does double duty too...it helps with yard/leaf work in the summer. But as good as the snow shovel might be, a true sqaure/flat head metal shovel is much better suited to do that gravel work. With as much ground your removed, it almost looks like a raised shed deck, supported by concrete pillars would have been easier. well done. thanks and thank you for your service.
Thank you Ryan for releasing a great product as this [ Check Details Here?> *WoodBlueprints. Com* ]. Most of the plans I have imagined in my mind are put down on your woodworking plans. This is more like a genius job. I love it!?
I am currently building a shed pad, Using a crushed gravel base and laying down pavers for the finished layer. Our slope runs opposite to yours (from front to back). What makes me nervous about finishing the pad below grade is what the water run off will do to the foundation over time. We are doing the opposite for this reason and building a small retaining wall with PT 4x4 to build up the low end rather than dropping the high end. Thank you for the video brother, I would be interested to know how the structure is doing currently.
Great looking base! You guys r.eally know the meaning of hard work. I have a question for you.... What is your intention on dealing with the grade difference from the excavation on the fence side? I have the same situation with even a greater grade change
Maybe a retention wall ? My situation is the opposite: the property slopes down to back and I'll have to fill in the back... so... gonna build a retention wall, like 2-ft tall on the back and fill it in to level.
Great video bruh. Thanks for posting. May I ask what you did with the removed grass and soil? I’m about to start something similar and looking for ideas. Thanks
bklyn2va2dc Thank you! I used the left over dirt throughout my property to fill in holes and to level the yard. I even used a piece of turf to patch a spot where the grass wasn’t growing so thick.
All In The Family Projects Ok! Thanks! That’s a good idea. I could do that for some of it but my yard is much smaller than yours. So I may end up having to haul some away. Keep up the great work and thanks for the speedy response. 👍🏿

Hi again! I am in the middle of doing my site prep. I have most of the area dug up. Wanted to thank you for the tiller part. Bought a cheap electric one and it made the “digging” part a synch as I didn’t really have to dig. Just till and remove with shovel. Also, I wanted to know did you level the dirt area also and then add the gravel or did you sort of get the dirt area dug out and then pour gravel and level that?
Pad looks good but what are you doing about the back and sides? Sooner or later that dirt is going to slide and be up against your shed walls.....not good.
1) I tied a string to a stake at the top of the slope 2) raised the other end until it was level, 3) measure distance from ground (bottom of the slope) up to my hand.

@Arthur Johnston 6x6s for a shed plus rebar and all that gravel? That foundation is gonna last 500 years and leech carcinogens into the soil too. A concrete slab would've been cheaper and a better idea.
Great video, thank you! And great results. As others asked, how are you planning to retain the dirt behind? I've seen similar pads that just add more of same dimension PT lumber on top of that rear wall up to the height of the dirt as a retaining wall.
I’m sorry but you’ve created a situation that rain water can now “pool” and sit under your shed. These rock pad ideas are all over UA-cam and I’ve been in the shed business 10+ years. This sloped grade was perfect for run off before it was “leveled” and a literal tub was created. Not to mention my back hurts just watching this. By a shed that’s engineer certified and built on treated skids. Put concrete blocks down at the advised measurements per engineer drawings and set the shed on the blocks. Then level with treated shims. No wood touching the ground, rain runs off from under shed, air gets under shed to help with moisture. Skirt it if you don’t want to see concrete blocks or under shed. Take all the money you saved and take the family on a week vacation.

concrete is much more expensive
gravel drains water MUCH better and will keep the shed footing dry.

How did you get so much gravel for cheap?
How has I held up? Any videos of it in use?
I see you added a shed. I am thinking of exactly this but no shed and maybe use some type of shade
It has held up really well. I use my home gym 4-5 times a week.
How is the shed sitting higher then the gravel pad? Good video though helped me a lot.
Shed is built on 4x4 frame at the warehouse.
Who’s music is this???

What type of gravel did you use?
I'm not sure of the type. But, the stones were the size of quarters.
Can I ask what the rebar is for?

The gravel will settle and sink. Then the door may not open.
